Chapter Text
Hellfire Club was up in flames. Everyone was there but Eddie. Hellfire was supposed to start an hour ago, and it was the one thing Eddie was not only never late for but, as DM, actually early so he could set up everything. But over the past month, things had been changing. Sometimes Eddie would come in with the rest of the party and set up while casually talking to them; other times, he was a minute or two behind them, and they could hear him racing down the hall and the squeak of his shoes as he skidded to stop in front of the door. He would throw it open with his usual crazy cackle and act like he wasn’t late for the only thing he took seriously besides his music.
But today was different. He wasn’t just a minute or two late, or five or ten. After fifteen minutes, the group started to grumble, and at thirty, they became concerned. But an hour! They were all in a downright panic, with Jeff having to sit on top of Dustin so the kid wouldn’t get up and call Hopper to look for Eddie. Dustin was in the middle of trying to bite Jeff’s leg when everyone fell silent. Eddie stood in the doorway with a sheepish smile on his face and an enormous blush.
“Sorry, I’m late, I got caught up in something, and well, yeah, anyways, give me like five minutes to set up, and we can start, ok?”
The room was dead silent, with everyone staring at Eddie, mouths wide open in shock. Eddie hummed quietly to himself while taking off his backpack, got out all of his DM notebooks, and started to put the dice and characters all around his carefully curated Dungeon Map. One by one, the party sat down in full silence, their eyes still open wide as they stared at their leader.
Eddie’s unruly curls were braided in an intricate pattern, and he had wildflowers woven throughout his hair.
In the end, it was shy Will Byers who spoke up first. “Uhm, Eddie, a flower fell out of your hair.” Will pointed at the table in front of their esteemed DM. Eddie carefully picked up the flower with a small, loving smile and a slight blush darkening his cheeks before sticking it behind his ear. Before continuing to set up for the night’s campaign.
“What the fuck, Munson?” Garett finally called out, addressing the elephant in the room.
Eddie glared at one of his oldest friends, “What? You’re saying that if you had a girlfriend, you wouldn’t let her do anything she wanted to you, whether it meant painting your nails or doing your hair? We all know you’re a giant sap for rom coms.”
The room erupted into chaos, everyone shouting over each other, all of the boys trying to be heard at the same time. Girlfriend! Eddie Munson had a girlfriend! Some shouts were statements of disbelief, others were shouts of encouragement and cheers, but they all had the same question. Who? At some point, dice started flying, then limbs. Next thing everyone knew, Eddie was on the floor holding Mike in a thigh hold and had Dustin in a headlock, vigorously giving the kid a noogie, when a small, delicate cough silenced the room.
Eddie released the two boys and did a quick kip up, all the while stuttering and blushing. Standing in the doorway was Chrissy Cunningham, she fidgeted with the edges of her sleeve while holding his acustic guitar to her chest.
“I’m sorry for interrupting, I just. Eddie you left this in the clearing and I thought you might want it back, I couldn’t find the case, did you leave it the van?”
The boys watched in silent, dumbfounded awe as Eddie walked up to the Queen of Hawkins High with a giant, blushing smile on his face. He grabbed her hand and delicately kissed her knuckles before taking his guitar out of her hands. “My lady, I thank you for returning to me my humblest of possessions so I may once again rule over my kingdom of idiots with awesome music.”
Chrissy tried to hide her blush by hiding behind her hair, which was down at the moment (her pink scrunchie was currently in Eddie’s hair, keeping his braid together), but it was no use. Eddie tilted her chin up before kissing her on the forehead, then kissing her on the lips. It was soft and sweet. “I’ll call you tonight My lady, is Heather still giving you a ride home?”
Chrissy nodded her head before kissing Eddie one more time goodbye. “Have a good campaign tonight.” Eddie waited until Chrissy was walking down the hall before shouting, “The guys love what you did to my hair!”
Eddie closed the door, and once again the room erupted into chaos. He could only laugh wildly at their antics.
