Chapter Text
They were flying through the sky as the sun was starting to set. Hiccup had wanted to watch it set from the back of Toothless, and Toothless enjoyed flying during the night. Now that everything was dark for both of them, it felt weird. Weird that there was no moon to see and not stars either. Toothless also didn’t feel the beat of his wings, or the weight of a saddle on his back. He was no longer in the sky, and Hiccup was nowhere near him it seemed.
Toothless’ eyes shot open as he took deep breaths glaring around the place he was being held. A dragon proof cage surrounded him, but he was not being held down by any chains. He let out a roar as he started to charge up his plasma blast, only to hear a familiar sound. A groan from his own rider, and it sounded as if he was right in front of him.
“Toothless?” Hiccup asked into the darkness he saw, but he was awake. He should have been able to see, but he was blindfolded. Hiccup was also tied up, useless on the ground. He wondered if this is what his dragon feels like everytime Viggo kidnaps them.
Toothless cooed at Hiccup pushing his face against the cage he was in. He wondered if his human was okay, but then he heard scratching against the floor. He whipped his head to the side growling as a human approached his cage, though the human was followed by a dragon. The dragon growled back at Toothless, but didn’t step in front of the human. The dragon was challenging him not to protect the human, but to protect itself somehow. This stopped Toothless from growling due to confusion, most dragons with riders protect their rider.
“Shall I speak to-” The human began to speak, but the dragon behind him growled at this. A suddenly loud bang was heard from behind the dragon, making the human flinch. The dragon seemed to be controlling the human, like riders were supposedly supposed to control their dragons. Except Toothless knew the dragon riders were nothing but kind to them, Hookfang and Snotlout were excluded; they acted like brothers, and brothers were not always nice to each other.
Toothless took a closer look at the dragon, and he was a bit surprised he knew what this dragon was. This dragon had a few long scales on its chin, and what looked like a fin on top of its head. The fin stopped when the neck started, and then a few spikes, then right behind the dragon’s start of the front legs was another fin. The main color was purple, ranging in shade. The jaw was big, and the dragon looked to have an under bite due to the size of the bottom jaw. This was a raincutter, and they looked like they had lost their front left leg.
Toothless warbled at the dragon to show he was sorry about the injury, but the dragon seemed to growl back. “It was a bad human. Nothing a superior dragon must worry or be sorry about,” The dragon growled out. The human who the dragon had brought down seemed to tense under the growling voice of the dragon. It made Toothless a bit uneasy seeing the human so uncomfortable with the dragon who he followed.
“Why is that human so scared?” Toothless asked back, looking at the shaking human. The human had basic clothes on, seeming to be stripped of any armor. There was a scar on the human’s left arm, it looked nasty. Though looking to the dragon, then back to the human, there was a bit of a similarity to it.
“The human should be scared. He is one of the who took my arm, he is not kind to us. We will not be kind to him until his lesson is learned,” The raincutter explained, pushing the human away with their tail before hissing. As the raincutter hissed, the human suddenly ran away.
Hiccup looked towards the sound of the hissing, making a few noises of his own language, but the dragons were not listening. They had their own conversation. “What do you want?” Toothless asked, his anxiety spiking as he stayed separated from Hiccup. Even though it isn't that far of a gap, he does not know what will happen to his human.
“We know you are the first tamed dragon, your human seems kind to many dragons. Us dragons have come together to form our own type of pack as you guys have. We are collecting our humans like you have, and punishing those who are killing us. We need a leader who is smart enough to help us,” the raincutter explained. He shifted to let Toothless free of his cage.
“You let me out, before I even agree?” Toothless questions the intentions of this dragon. Though the dragon seems uncaring if Toothless could retaliate.
“You, dear night blaster, can not fly without your human,” the raincutter stated, her tail swaying behind her. She turned towards the cage Hiccup was being held in. Hiccup was in a dragon proof cage. Toothless could not free him, so he could only listen to what this dragon had to say.
“Our pack, the dragons who have been wronged by those… evil humans, we have come together. We have so many, but we can not organize the way you and your dragons have. We need a leader, so we took you. The leader of your pack,” the raincutter kept on speaking as she walked towards the exit.
Toothless took a full look around, taking in more than the cage he was held in and Hiccup had been held in. His original assumption was that they were being held on a boat, but it seemed they were in a cave. A very normal cave, it seemed weird.
The raincutter continued walking towards the exit. Toothless quickly followed, only to see the raincutter stop at a wall. She began climbing up the side of the wall, it seemed very easy for a dragon. It was a precaution it seemed, so if a human could get out of their binds and cage, they couldn’t easily get out of the cave.
Once at the top, Toothless stopped in surprise to see dragons flying around. Though it was not uncommon, it was the fact the dragons were of a wide range of different types. And they all got along, when normally it would be unimaginable unless the dragons were tamed by a rider. These dragons were wild, without rider due to the lack of saddle Toothless saw. Yet most of the dragons seemed to be training with their riders.
“This is our island, we take in many different dragons. The humans we collect vary in type. Each dragon picks from the cages, whether they wish the human be on them or not. We take the humans when they stand on boats and we fly by and want them, or have one of our dragons pose as hurt. Those who try to kill off our dragons are taken so we treat them like they would have treated us. Those who help get taken and a dragon picks them out,” the raincutter explained as she started going down towards a cluster of dragons and humans.
Toothless noticed a big looking human covered in terrible terrors. This man looked to be the same build as Stoick, big and strong. These terrible terrors seemed to love cuddling up to this man, yet the cluster hissed at many other humans who passed. The human that was stuck in the cluster of terrors seemed to not pay any mind to the cluster. He just sat there accepting his place.
“How long have you been stealing your humans?” Toothless asked as he witnessed not only the abuse of what he assumed were the bad humans, but the care of other humans. The humans who were kind to most, and carried around by their dragons.
“For as long as hunters have been after us. Once the big evil queen was killed we dispersed only for humans to want us. I escaped many ships, and started collecting other dragons who have escaped just as me,” the raincutter explained. She sniffed the air before sighing, a bit of her fire coming from her mouth.
