Work Text:
When Myungjun finally removes the blindfold and Minhyuk can adjust and put the room into focus, he thinks it may be a bit too much: he is just turning twenty-seven, not even a round number, a milestone, yet Myungjun have decorated like it is the most special day ever in Minhyuk's whole life.
"Not that I don't appreciate it - trust me, I do, and thank you" he smiles. "But why? You didn't have to"
"To make up for it"
"For what?"
"That one time we didn't celebrate your birthday"
Minhyuk waits for a joke that never comes, for Myungjun to say that he is just kidding - but Myungjun couldn't be more serious. Because he knows how sensitive Minhyuk is about birthdays, how much he cares; he remembers how upset Minhyuk got the only year they had forgotten, how it lingered.
After all those years, Minhyuk is long past that; it had stung, being young and insecure, but he had been showered with so much love since then that he couldn't possibly still bring that up, if not to just tease them. For Myungjun to be the one still clinging onto it, it is rather unbelievable.
"You can't be serious"
"I am!" Myungjun pouts. "You deserved it then and you do now"
"But-"
"Don't. I am not allowing you to complain or change my mind", Myungjun stops him, serious but still playful. "You are going to stay here and let me do my things, alright?"
Minhyuk surrenders, knowing that it's impossible to make Myungjun back up when he sets his mind to something, and resorts to simply hug him as tightly as he can.
"You are incredible"
"And you love me for that", Myungjun ruffles his hair. "I have something for you, give me a moment"
"Of course you do", Minhyuk shakes his head. "And yes, I do love you!"
"I know!" Myungjun yells back from the kitchen, voice full of glee and endearment. "I love you too!"
Minhyuk can only wait and try not to giggle too much.
The cake Myungjun brings out is very pretty, full of roses on top, and also vaguely familiar; Minhyuk can't place it, but he is sure he has seen it before.
"First of all, we can't skip traditions!" Myungjun exclaims as he lits the candles. "Three wishes, because I'm generous"
"That's not for you to decide!" Minhyuk laughs, but complies anyway. Being together forever is quite a big part of what he asks the universe.
The package Myungjun hands him next is a bottle of his favourite perfume. Minhyuk nods, grateful; then he stops, and it eventually clicks.
"The cake, this... I am not nineteen anymore, hyung" he smiles.
"Doesn't mean we can't pretend"
"I guess. Why should we, though?"
"I don't know" Myungjun admits. "I think anniversaries this year are making me a little more emotional than usual"
Minhyuk can understand. "It is weird to think how fast everything went by"
"You were so young"
"We both were", Minhyuk counters. "Now... not so much"
"Yah! You used to defend me on this!"
"Did I?"
"Yes, you silly!" Myungjun protests. "And I wish you would continue on that path"
"Noted", Minhyuk winks. "So, assuming I got your idea right-"
"There is one final gift, correct. You said the one thing you wanted from the members was a kiss"
That feels completely made up. Maybe Myungjun is messing with him.
"When did I even-"
"Because I am the one who did, actually" Myungjun confesses, amused. "We were guessing your answers and I spoke without thinking. It was ages ago", he recalls. "You got so flustered"
Minhyuk sincerely has no recollection of that moment, but Myungjun's memory is infallible, so he has to trust him.
"You didn't kiss me, though, back then"
"I shouldn't have even said that", Myungjun shrugs. "But I hoped so hard you would get the hint"
It had taken a while, a lot of confidence in himself to even take into consideration that Myungjun's feelings were real, but Minhyuk had eventually gotten there and the rest had been history.
"You can kiss me now", he suggests as he takes Myungjun's hands and pulls him closer. "You know, to make up for it"
Myungjun laughs and kisses him, again and again and again, and Minhyuk loves his birthday a bit more every time.
