Chapter Text

I’ve always hated hospitals. The first time I remember stepping foot in one was when I was 7 years old. My grandpa was sick, I think he had Parkinson’s disease. Either way, we went that day to watch him take his last breath and after that there was a pattern. When I was 9 my grandma, when I turned 11 my aunt and the most recent one when I was 16 was one of my teachers. We weren’t particularly close but I was the one who saw the accident and called 911. They said the ambulance would take a half an hour to arrive so I brought her to the hospital myself. The doctor said that I made the right choice because she definitely would have bled out, but she died anyway. Internal bleeding or something.
Now I'm back in one of these eerily white hallways , 3 years later, because one of my dumbass friends crashed his four wheeler trying to prove how “manly” he was. Stupid. Regardless, I showed up today in Katsuura with steak from the market near the hospital and a protein shake in hopes that he heals faster. It’s just a broken arm and some bruises but it still makes something in my stomach churn. I turned into his room and tossed the bag into his lap.
“Here dumbass.” I sit on the couch near his bed.
Kirishma grunts but smiles widely. “Thanks man! You didn’t have to bring anything. To be honest I'm just glad you even came.”
I roll my eyes. “Of course I came.”
“Guess who else came today?”
“Let me guess, the weird girl in your fitness class?”
“Mina, and yes.” He rolls his eyes but you can tell he’s happy.
“Why don’t you just ask her out or something, she’s obviously into you.” I grab my phone and start scrolling.
“Not like you can talk. I’ve never once seen you pay an ounce of attention to a girl.”
I scoff. “I have better things to worry about.”
“Right.” There was a few minutes of silence before he started showing me all the ‘cool’ things he would do with his hospital bed. I only heard bits and pieces.
“-And I can press a button on the bed to turn the volume of the tv up.”
“Neat.” I mutter looking at pictures of his demolished vehicle.
“You’re not even listening are you?”
“Nope.”
He chuckles and starts eating his food, trying to cut the steak with a dull plastic knife- and failing miserably. “So what have I missed at school?”
“I don’t know a few assignments for advanced chem and calculus but I took notes for you.” I reach into my bag, grab my notebook and toss it at him.
“Dude. You are seriously the best.”
“Yeah yeah I know.” I wave him off and the nurse comes in and starts talking to him about taking a few more x-rays today to figure out if he’ll need surgery. I take that as my cue to leave and as I’m walking it out he calls out.
“Thanks for the steak Bakubro!”

I made my way around corners, and past doctors hearing casual conversations in the background. My vision was swirling slightly and I still kind of felt like I was going to puke, thinking of the same few words while everyone else was trying to push through.
Just leave. Just leave. Just leave. Just leave.
“It’s just going to sting for a second-”
Just leave Just leave Just leave Just leave
“Looks like you’ll be discharged in a fe-”
Justleavejustleavejustleavejustleave-
“Alright Izuku, we’ll run a few more tests today and then you should be able to go home on Monday.”
I stopped and turned to look into the room I was next to.
There’s no way.
“Thanks doctor Suzuki. I’ll let my mom know.” She ruffles his dark green locks and turns to leave but locks eyes with me instead, and then so does…he.

“Kacchan”
I really hate hospitals.
