Chapter Text
“I can’t believe you never slept with Liv,” Amanda said, turning in the sheets to face Alex.
“It never came up,” Alex said, stroking Amanda’s hair absently.
“But…you’ve known each other for years. Surely there was some opportunity…”
They kissed.
“No. Never.”
“Because of Stabler?” Amanda pressed.
“I don’t know. I never pursued it.”
“She has a thing for you, though. I can see it in her eyes when she looks at you. It’s very…unBenson-y.”
“Are you worried about me or her?”
“Both? Neither? I just like to know where I stand.”
“You’re not standing. You’re lying down. Underneath me, I might remind you.”
“Mmmm. I did notice that. You’re very imposing.” Amanda traced her fingernail along Alex’s side, brushing her breast. She locked eyes with Alex. “In a good way, of course.”
“I wouldn’t take it any other way.” Alex kissed Amanda again.
“How did you know I’d be interested?” Amanda wondered out loud.
“I think it was the way you batted your eyelashes at me then swaggered off making sure I was checking you out as you got into the elevator.”
“Yeah? You noticed that, huh?” Amanda grinned.
“You bit your lip suggestively as the doors closed.”
“Mmmm. I did, didn’t I?” Amanda repeated the expression.
“What were you thinking about then?”
“About how you would look shaking your hair out and taking those glasses off.”
Alex laughed. “Like in a movie?”
“Or a music video.” Amanda chuckled, pulling Alex down to kiss her again.
“Like a sexy librarian or teacher?”
“Uh-huh. Teacher. I’m hot for teacher.”
“Oh really? ADA isn’t good enough?”
“You could teach law…or something more advanced…”
“You want me to teach you something…advanced?”
“Show me watcha got, Ms Cabot.”
“I already did, didn’t I?”
“You said ‘advanced’.”
“Uh-huh.” Alex slipped under the sheet.
“Ohhh…I like this lesson….mmm.”
Amanda’s legs were spread wide and held firmly in place as Alex performed miracles with her tongue. As Amanda’s ability to move was limited, the tension was heightened and she crashed into an orgasm so fast that she could barely catch her breath.
Alex continued on as though Amanda hadn’t just experienced a personal earthquake. She built the pressure up slowly the second time, then sucked hard to take Amanda over the edge.
It took a few minutes for Amanda to come to her senses.
“Okay. So college was never that much fun,” she grinned.
“Ready to pay your tuition?”
“I’m not sure I have the money—is there some other way I could pay you?”
“That’s so corny…but yes, I definitely can think of a way.”
Alex’s phone buzzed, and she checked it automatically.
“Ugh. Unfortunately, my jury’s out. So you and I will need a continuance.”
Alex quickly got up and started dressing.
“I have a shift in an hour anyways. Text me when you’re free?” Amanda asked.
“Of course.”
“Go get ’em, counsellor.”
Amanda got in early—bounced in really—and headed for the coffee machine. Olivia was already there, stirring her coffee absently until she stopped, mid swirl, and looked directly at Amanda.
“What? Did I step in somethin’?” Amanda looked at her shoes, confused.
Olivia was sniffing at the air, suddenly looking very uncomfortable.
“No! No, I just—have you seen Alex today?”
“I caught an elevator with her earlier, why?” Amanda answered creatively.
“I just…I thought I smelled her perfume.”
“The elevator was pretty full. She must’ve just put her perfume on when she got in.”
“Okay.”
Amanda took her coffee and walked over to her desk as soon as she could.
AR: Liv is so on to us
AC: how?
AR: your Issey Miyake
AC: she knows my perfume?
AR: she’s a detective, duh
AC: just act innocent
AR: what am i guilty of?

AC: u really are my good girl ;)
AR: damn u already know too much about me
AC: lol
Moments later, Olivia strode up to Amanda’s desk. They’d been assigned some interviews.
“Rollins? You ready?”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Have you eaten?”
“Yeah—oh. No,” Amanda grinned to herself.
“Which is it?”
“I didn’t have a chance to pick up any food.”
“We can stop by one of the food vans, if you want. I haven’t eaten yet either.”
“Thanks.”
They waited only a couple of minutes while the stall owner got them some pretzels and fresh coffee, because they were in hurry.
“Have you started making some new friends?” Olivia asked as they took their orders.
“Huh?”
“You’re texting a lot. New friend?”
“Oh. Yeah. Gettin’ to know someone.”
“That’s good. That you’re settling in.”
“Yeah, it’s nice, actually. Better than nice,” Amanda smiled.
After they got back, Olivia headed over to the courthouse.
“Alex? Have you got a moment?”
Alex looked up from her phone, distracted.
“Sure, Olivia. You need something?”
“I was just wondering if you were free tonight—maybe get some dinner?” Olivia asked.
“Oh. I’m sorry, Liv, I have something on. We could have coffee later if you have time?”
“Yeah, okay. Coffee. I’ll let you know when I’m free.” Olivia accepted the offer, her expression giving nothing away.
“See you then.”
AC: Liv asked me to dinner
AR: what???
AC: down girl, i said no
AR: it’s cuz of the perfume
AC: ?
AR: she’s worried she’s lost u
AC: she never had me
AR: r u blind? she didn’t think she had competition bfore
AC: we were never together
AR: maybe u should tell her that
The coffee shop was reasonably quiet at that time of day; small tables, uncomfortable chairs. The tiled floor perfect for quick mop ups for whenever gravity claimed its caffeine.
“We haven’t really caught up since that night we went to see the skaters.” Olivia started, trying not to sound too disappointed.
“It’s been busy,” Alex replied as she blew steam off her coffee.
“You said you have plans tonight—hot date?” Olivia continued to casually use her detective skills.
“Actually, yes.” As usual, Alex didn’t give anything away that she didn’t have to.
“I didn’t realise you were seeing anyone.”
“It’s new. But it’s nice.”
“Nice?” Olivia tilted her head, noting the word.
“Better than nice, actually,” Alex smiled slightly, suddenly feeling a little shy.
“That’s good. I’m happy for you, Alex.” Olivia tried to sound genuine.
Click. That was the second piece of the puzzle. Olivia didn’t need any more clues.
