Chapter Text
“The beginning of a new beginning is the end of a story.”
Many years ago, when the temples still breathed with the voices of the gods and men bowed their heads beneath the weight of the heavens, the Empire was ruled by sacred blood.
Blue blood.
Blood that was never meant to be mixed.
Blood that was never meant to descend into the mud.
The Emperor—son of the celestial Tsugikuni lineage—reigned from the Palace of the Nine Gates. Around him, the nine guardian clans safeguarded the balance between the divine realm and the human world.
Dragon.
Phoenix.
Lion-dog.
Serpent.
Heron.
Butterfly.
Frog.
Rabbit.
Bear.
Nine temples.
Nine custodians.
One throne.
And one unbreakable law:
The gods do not love mortals.
But even gods can bleed.
On a storm-ridden night, the Emperor descended into the human world in the form of a white beast. A celestial tiger, wounded by ignorant hands. The sky bore witness. The forest concealed him.
And a simple man saved him.
A charcoal burner.
With rough hands.
A clear gaze.
A heart too pure to understand that he was touching the forbidden.
For three days the beast remained beneath that humble roof.
Three days were enough for fate to fracture.
The Emperor came to know human warmth.
And chose to stay.
The Empire did not know.
The Empress did not know.
The Guardians did not know.
But the heavens did.
Love grew in silence.
In lingering glances.
In hands that learned to recognize one another.
In a smile offered to a tiger who was not only a tiger.
And when the Emperor revealed his true form, there was no fear.
Only acceptance.
That was unforgivable.
From that love, a child was born.
With eyes the color of twilight.
Dark hair cascading down his back.
A human pulse.
Divided blood.
On the day he was born, the wind changed direction in the Nine Temples.
The Dragon opened its eyes within its sanctuary.
The Phoenix unfurled its wings.
The Lion-dog growled in the distance.
The balance had shifted.
Blue blood had touched the earth.
And the price did not take long to arrive.
In the palace corridors, betrayal walked clothed in silk.
Love was named disgrace.
The child was named threat.
On the night the charcoal ceased to burn in the mountain cabin, the rain fell without mercy.
The human was taken.
The Emperor did not arrive in time.
And the human world never knew that the death had been decreed by fear.
The Lion-dog clan fell.
The Empress was devoured by her own ambition.
The court was stained with invisible blood.
But the child survived.
The illegitimate heir.
The Empire’s most carefully guarded secret.
The only being capable of uniting heaven and earth…
or destroying them.
Years later, high upon the mountain where the wind still whispers forgotten names, a young man with long hair carries charcoal over his shoulders, unaware that the temples are watching him.
He does not know that the water recognizes him.
He does not know that the fire respects him.
He does not know that the lion hates him.
He does not know that his existence is a crack in the throne.
But the heavens know.
And this time…
the gods will not look away.
