“Mama?”
“Tatsu?”
“Where we goin’?”
Asuka carried her son off the train. “To buy chocolates.”
“‘Kay!”
A minute later, another question. “Chocolates for who?”
“Guess.”
“Mmm… Oni!” He giggled.
“No, silly! Chocolates aren’t for kitties. Guess again.”
“You!”
Asuka smiled, but shook her head.
“Me?”
“We’ll get some for you too… But try one last guess.”
Tatsuya’s soft blues lit up. “Papa!”
That evening, when presented with the red box they’d bought, his papa’s eyes did the same. Once Tatsuya was tucked in, Asuka found her husband at the kitchen sink to embrace him from behind.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Shinji.”
