Notes:

Hey! This is my first time writing a fiction. English is not my first language and i am not Indian so forgive me if i write smth incorrect. Vrishaketu is also known as karna son but others also belive he could be karna grandson fron Vrishasena(karna first son) since karna mention about his grandchildren to Lord krishna. But in here , i will have him as Karna son. Also all of karna physical appearance are not my imagination- it is from the mahabarat translation .

I got this fic by listening (The Marías - Sienna )

Work Text:

The War of Kurukshetra do not bring unfortune fate not only to adult but it do not spare young youth either. The sons of Karna include Vrishasena, the eldest and most prominent, who was renowned for his skill and was slain by Arjuna on the seventeenth day of the war after a fierce duel in which he pierced several Pandava heroes before being felled by ten shafts to his vital points. Other notable sons were Chitrasena, Satyasena, and Sushena, all killed by Nakula on the eighteenth day during intense exchanges of arrows that highlighted their bravery but ultimately led to their downfall.Prasena was struck down by Satyaki with keen shafts after engaging the Yadava warrior. Bhanusena fell to Bhima's arrows. Shatrunjaya and Dvipata were slain by Arjuna during the war.

The Truth of his mother secret hit Yudhishthira like a thousand lightings in his heart. The man , that proud son of Adithya he wish to die in the war is not other than his older brother. Out of fury , he curse not only his mother but all the women in the world. He blame himself for never suspending Angraj and his mom even after noticing how similar their feet are. Yudhishthira order his soldiers to prepare horses to went to Anga-to Karna kingdoms but when Pandavas arrive there , it is Heartbreaking news that welcome them. Vrushali -Karna's primary wife, committed Sati by jumping into his funeral pyre out of loyalty and grief after both her husband and sons are brutally slayed. Supriya-Karna's second wife , left her youngest son with his grandparents in sorrow of loosing her husbands and older son and went to mountains alone .

Vrishaketu, the last of Karna’s line, a boy no older than ten when the Pandavas had taken him in, a fragile remnant of a bloodline once feared and despised. Kunti gasped the fist time she see the child. "U look just like him-my son....my first child" the queen mother said to Vrishaketu. Arjun notice a slight of emotion reflect in the eyes of Vrishaketu but it is not love .Years unfurled like petals, and Vrishaketu grew into youth.. The brown waves of his hair fell in the same unruly manner as Karna’s, and the sunlight caught in his tawny eyes, igniting the same warm brilliance. He had a complexion of pure gold and blazed like a fire.

One day , as Arjun pass through the hall way he heard a sound of laughter. He look at the source and amazed. Vrishaketu never laugh out loud often in public-just like his dad. But now he is laughing heartly with Parikshit (Arjun grandson) just like how Karna use to laugh when he is with Duryodhana-his other half. One could wrong Karna is here with one glance. His smile bring gentleness like Moon even thought that son of Radha fill with evil plans against them in past.
(A/N It is mention by Surya dev that Karna earrings are so beautiful and make Karna resplendent as the azure moon in the sky)

Yudhishthira, ever the thoughtful king, observed silently, noting the resemblance not just in form but in spirit. The boy carried Karna’s resolve, his kindness, and, at times, the same stubborn and egoistic pride. He moved with the same quiet confidence, a deliberate grace that recalled the man they had once considered their greatest ennemy. Vrishaketu often approach him in evening and ask him about his father life in Hastinapur. Most of things he remembers are how that Bull among men side with their evil cousin Duryodhana to against them most of the time. But he choose his words carefully to avoid any hatred as for a son his father is consider as hero.

Bhima who don't show much emotion even after knowing his enemy is his brother, care for Vrishaketu alot. During the wresting lessons , across from him stood Vrishaketu, no longer a child, shoulders broadened by time, spine straight with an instinctive confidence that had never been taught—only inherited.

“Come,” Bhima said, half-smiling, expecting resistance, weight, struggle. Vrishaketu moved first.
Not with brute force, not with reckless speed, but with timing so precise it startled Bhima into stillness. Their arms locked. Heat spread where skin met skin. For a breathless moment, Bhima forgot where he was.

The touch and grip was too familiar.

"Karna"

Bhima’s breath faltered.

The memory surged unbidden, the same strong power. The same refusal to dominate for pride alone. That egoistic son of Surya , had always fought like this every time he face him in the war. Vrishaketu twisted, breaking Bhima’s balance with an effortless pivot. The ground rushed up as Bhima fell, laughter caught halfway in his throat, astonishment replacing amusement.
“Well fought,” Bhima said, in proud voice. The boy smile a little and said "Of course , who am i dear uncle...I am son of maharathi Karn!!" proudly.

Nakula and Shadeva often caught Vrishketu admiring the Sun at the balcony alone just like his dad did. It is funny that the twin often remember Vrishaketu is not only their nephew but their cousin since Karna and their divine dad are both Suryadev sons.

Night settled gently over Indraprastha. Oil lamps flickered along the corridors, their light trembling like thoughts left unfinished. The Pandavas gathered in the inner chamber,
Bhima sat apart, arms folded, gaze fixed on nothing.

Yudhishthira was the first to speak. “The boy is growing quickly.”

"That boy look just like him-the brother we never had- as he grow older , i still remember seeing Karna first time in arena , he was in his youth.......Vrishketu always remind me of the time "

The lamps hissed softly as oil burned low. Outside, the night wind carried the distant cry of birds settling into rest. Bhima unclenched his fists at last.

“I hated that man,” he said, voice barely above a whisper. “With everything I had.”

Arjuna did not argue. Neither did Yudhishthira or the twin.

"But after all this truth it is difficult to keep this hatred especially when his replica is under my shadow " continue Bhima.

Nakula shifted closer to Sahadeva. “Do you think he knows?” he asked quietly. “How much of his father lives through him?”

Bhima laughed once, short and bitter. “The gods are cruel,” he muttered. “They take the man we hated, then give him back to us piece by piece.”

"U claimed to hate him till now but u still keeping his clothes and things which are left in Duryodhana's room after u claim it. U burn all Duryodhana belonging but u leave his belongings untouchable brother "
(A/N it is mention that after war Bhima took Duryodhan room and Arjun took Dushasana room"

Arjuna left the chamber.

The corridors of the palace were quiet, lamps dimmed for the night, shadows stretching long across the stone floor. His steps slowed as he approached the chamber set aside for Vrishaketu. He hesitated only once before pushing the door open, careful not to let it creak. The room was bathed in moonlight. Vrishaketu slept on his side, one arm folded beneath his head. The boy’s face, unburdened by thought, carried the same quiet dignity Karna had worn in rare moments of rest, He sit down on the side of bed and pat the boy head like a father to a son. Vrishaketu stirred, his lashes lay dark against his skin. His lips were slightly parted, shaped by a gentleness that resemble his dad.
“You look like him,” Arjuna whispered, though the room did not ask for words.

He remembered standing over Karna’s fallen body, the sun dimmed, the earth stained, victory hollow in his hands.

Now the same face lay before him, unmarked by war or sins his father did.

Arjuna swallowed.

“I did not know,” he said softly, the confession meant for neither the boy nor the dead, but for himself. “If I had known…”

Arjuna rose slowly, retreating without sound. At the doorway, he looked back once more. Moonlight crowned Vrishaketu’s face in silver, and for a fleeting instant, it felt as though Karna himself lay there. Arjuna closed the door.

“I will not fail you,” he murmured. “Not again.”

Notes:

Karna second wife Supriya is believed by local folklore that she leave Anga and travel to Uttarakhand where she spread the generous acts of karna to locals and build temples for him.
That why u can find many karna temples in uttarakhand nowadays and villagers love karna alot and they don't play about him.
