KNOCK KNOCK A fist raps on the door.
Winry opens the door. She is in a green sun dress and shoes. Ed could be grateful to somebody that she did not put on her high heels or platform shoes, and instead wore flats that matched her bandanna.
"You look good, ready to go?”
“Yea, let's go.”
He presents the bouquet "Beautiful flowers, for the beautiful girl?" The line felt strange in his mouth.
Winry took them, smiling "Thank you, Ed." Ed and Winry lock hands, Ed’s once made of metal soft, not going through all to make his left have a callous, Winry’s slightly rough on the fingers from the occasional burn of a soldering iron. Winry relaxes as she realizes Ed is too nervous as she is, observing his bright red face. He was unfortunately, or rather fortunately for her, quite dense at times with her face being flushed pink.
They took the short walk to the small ice-cream parlor.
Ed found himself unable to speak and Winry didn't either. Though not awkward, it wasn't comfortable silence either. More like a mixture of the two. How come it was so hard to form a conversation?
"What have you been working on recently?" He asked. It was a safe bet, Winry knew about it, and Ed had read a book or two, and listened to her infinite lecture on the topic of caring for his left leg.
Winry started talking, and for once Ed seemed at a loss for words. Just staring at her. Just two years ago, he had trouble imagining a future, now he could see his future with Winry. He admired every part of her… and questioned how exactly he had managed to take her on a date… with about the worst pickup line to date, and more importantly how she did not turn him down. Well he guessed it must have been because he had finally grown taller. He smirks to himself about that.
"You listening, Ed?" He kept admiring her, not saying anything. She flicks his forehead.
When she flicked his head he lifted his left arm to his face "What was that for!"
"What exactly was I working on Ed?"
"I uh- automail?" she sighed at his response.
"Head in the clouds as always." Her smile betrayed the annoyance she tried to present. "Have you at least picked what you want?" He looked at the chalk board with ice cream flavors on, when had they gotten to the parlor?
Like Pinako said, just say "Surprise me,"
Winry sees through it almost immediately "So you haven't picked" Winry got them both an ice-cream. She had gotten cotton candy, while for Ed, she'd gotten raspberry.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had this one before, Win.” Ed took a bite. “Not bad.”
Winry followed with a bite of her own icecream. “I make good choices, after all, I said yes to your nerdy pick up line.” Ed’s face went redder than his ice cream.
Most had a fight or flight response when nervous. Clearly, Ed lacked this response practically screeching “What’s that!”
“Huh—Ed bit Winry’s ice cream. “ED!” She shrieked. “I swear I’m gonna kill you!”
“Only if you can catch me!” so that is where his flight response had gone, with a cocky grin that fueled him to run as she chased after. Eventually Ed slowed to a stroll and Winry caught up to him. “Here.” He put his ice cream in front of her.
“Let me guess… ‘equivalent exchange?’” she sighed, taking a bite.
“Girlfriend policy.” He smirked knowing he at least partially won. They entered the house laughing together, ice cream cones each about half finished.
Al was taking a few books “Morning you tw—” His eyes moved between their purple tongues, and their blue and red icecreams, as if examining every possibility, yet only finding one “DID YOU KISS?!”
He looked truly appalled as the two of them, fingers interlocked, moved away from each other at speeds Al did not know were able to be achieved by humans. Their voices overlapped
“!HNELVLERO?” Their eyes flicked between each other and Al.
Ed pointed an accusatory finger “Why would you think that!”
Al stated it like it was obvious as the surprise started to drain from his face, realizing their reaction proved his theory incorrect. “Blue and red make purple.”
