Work Text:
I wait for you, unfailing as the tide,
My love once held and kissed then reft from me.
Grief wild as the waves knows no relief,
It calls me here beside the boundless sea —
A lonesome figure on the storm-struck shore.
Return my dear, the shadow to my light;
Kiss me, melt away this unbelief.
With whispered words of worship ‘tween these walls
We keep our vigil through the waning night;
The weight of you the anchor of my soul.
I ache with steadfast hope, the hour grows late;
How long, my love, will you be mine to hold?
Banish the lark, beseech the churning sky —
A fervent incantation to the squall
To bless us with both world enough and time
To greet the sun together on the shore.
’Til then with stoic steps o’er heather blooms
This old storm-battered heart keeps stumbling back
To beckon love from ocean’s ghostly rooms.
Beloved windswept silhouette in black,
Hold fast to the unyielding thread of fate
Forever tethered to this sacred shore —
Return to me, unfailing as the tide.
