Work Text:

Phil had spent the better part of the last week grinning like an idiot to himself. After Dan had gifted him the puzzle advent calendar he’d been eyeing for weeks, Phil knew he needed to return the gesture, but he wanted it to be personal, mischievous, and impossible to forget. He ransacked drawers, opened boxes, and flicked through cupboards searching for inspiration, until he stumbled across the old Polaroid camera they hadn’t used in years. The worn leather strap felt familiar in his hands, and the faint chemical smell of the instant film made him grin even wider.

A flash of inspiration lit up his mind. He would take 24 sexy, playful, sometimes cheeky Polaroids of himself and hide them around the house—one for each day leading up to Christmas. Dan would find one every day, and each would be more flirty than the last. Phil’s grin widened at the thought, already picturing Dan’s reaction: wide-eyed surprise, a blush creeping over his cheeks, a quiet laugh escaping his lips. The idea of these intimate little discoveries made Phil feel giddy, like a teenager planning a harmless but thrilling prank.

That same evening, Phil set to work in their bedroom. The soft glow of the bedside lamp and the faint slant of moonlight through the curtains made the room feel intimate and private. He stripped down completely, letting the sheets twist and curl around him just enough to accentuate the natural lines of his body. The focus was on teasing, on showing off just enough skin to make Dan blush—his chest glistening slightly in the soft light, muscles relaxed but defined, ass raised subtly, cock hidden playfully beneath the sheets. Each shot was a delicate balance of sexy and cheeky, daring yet playful. He found himself lingering on certain angles, turning slightly, rolling onto his side or back, adjusting the sheet just so, all the while imagining Dan’s sharp inhale when he’d see it.

Phil experimented with countless poses. On one morning, he lay on his stomach, elbows propped, chin resting on his hands, ass tilted just enough so the curve caught the light and drew attention without being over the top. Another night, he leaned back on the pillows, knees bent slightly, chest glimmering in the soft lamplight, a smirk tugging at his lips, daring Dan to discover it. From above, he captured the sweep of his shoulders down to the subtle curve of his torso, the faint shadowing emphasizing the shape of his abs. From the side, the line of his ass and the shadowed ridge of his chest were highlighted, each pose a playful tease. He occasionally caught himself laughing quietly at the ridiculousness of his own expressions—half playful, half sincere—winking or making a dramatic pout, all for the invisible eyes of Dan.

Each day, Phil captured one or two Polaroids, placing them carefully into an envelope he’d tucked away in the back of a drawer. He labeled them with tiny notes to himself, reminders of where each one should go, the little corners of the house where Dan would stumble upon them. By the end of the week, he had 24 carefully curated images, each more flirty, sexy, or cheeky than the last. Some were playful, some downright teasing, but all unmistakably Phil, meant to make Dan smile, gasp, or groan quietly in delight. Phil’s mind buzzed with anticipation at the thought of Dan’s reactions—he imagined the quiet giggles, the brief flush of cheeks, the way Dan’s eyes would linger a moment too long on certain angles.

On the night of November 30th, Phil prepared the first Polaroid for its grand debut. He chose Dan’s favorite coffee mug, the one he always reached for in the morning without thinking. Carefully, he slipped the photo into the bottom, just far enough that it would remain hidden until the right moment. He adjusted it with precision, tilting the mug slightly to ensure it wouldn’t slip or be obvious, imagining Dan reaching for it, completely unsuspecting. The kitchen was quiet, the hum of the refrigerator the only sound, and Phil had to fight the urge to laugh quietly at the thought of Dan’s startled expression. He polished the countertop lightly with his sleeve, just so, and then stepped back to admire his handiwork.

December 1st arrived, and Phil woke with a flutter of excitement. He could hardly breathe without smiling. He padded downstairs carefully, still in the dim morning light, careful not to wake Dan. The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, and he poured himself a cup, holding it between both hands as he climbed onto the kitchen stool. He took a slow sip, letting the warmth spread through him, eyes flicking to the mug where the hidden Polaroid waited. His chest rose and fell slightly faster than usual, heart racing with anticipation.

Fifteen minutes later, the creak of the bedroom door announced Dan’s arrival. He appeared in a haze of sleep, hair sticking up in the sweetest mess, eyes still heavy-lidded and just waking to the day. “Morning,” he mumbled, planting a quick peck on Phil’s lips, soft and warm, and handed over the puzzle advent calendar he’d bought. Phil took it with a small smile, sliding it onto the counter, then returned to his coffee, eyes gleaming with mischief.

He watched Dan move toward the cupboard, every motion familiar and perfectly predictable. The moment Dan reached for the exact mug Phil had prepared, his fingers brushed the Polaroid just enough to nudge it into view. The photo slipped slightly upward, revealing itself to Dan’s gaze.

Dan froze, breath catching, a sharp intake escaping him. He yelped, slamming the mug down onto the counter and spinning around to face Phil, eyes wide, cheeks flushed. “Phil! What is this?!”

Phil laughed loudly, the sound bright and warm, barely able to contain his delight. “Your advent calendar,” he said between giggles. “Merry Christmas.”

Dan picked up the Polaroid, staring at it in disbelief. The image captured a naked, playful Phil lying on the bed: chest and torso glistening in soft light, ass subtly highlighted, cock hidden teasingly beneath the sheets, a mischievous smirk tugging at his lips. Dan groaned, pressing the photo briefly to his chest. “I just started my day,” he muttered, voice half exasperated, half breathless, “and you’re trying to kill me.”

Phil sipped his coffee slowly, savoring the warmth, eyes gleaming at Dan’s reaction. Dan moved closer, slipping the Polaroid into the pocket of his joggers, then placed both hands on Phil’s face, leaning down to kiss him fully. The kiss was warm, lingering, and full of shared laughter and intimacy. Pulling back slightly, Dan whispered, “God, you’re so sexy.”

Phil giggled, brushing his thumb over Dan’s cheek. “Look forward to that every day till Christmas,” he teased softly.

Dan groaned, shaking his head, a mix of amusement and exasperation painting his features. “How am I going to get any work done in December?”

Phil smiled, fully satisfied. The first Polaroid had done exactly what he hoped: startled Dan, made him blush, laugh, and anticipate what was coming next. He leaned back slightly, sipping his coffee, watching Dan settle into the morning, already plotting where to hide the next one and imagining the mixture of surprise, delight, and mischief that awaited them over the next twenty-three days. The month ahead promised laughter, intimacy, and small, thrilling moments like this one, all beginning with a single Polaroid tucked into a coffee mug.
