Chapter Text
Miles and Phoenix have been extra salty with each other. This wasn’t their usual courtroom rivalry, nor was it just friendly banter. They were pissed at each other, inside or outside of court. We’re talking glares from across halls, “accidental” tripping of each other, etc. Both their assistants, Maya being Phoenix’s and Gumshoe being Miles’, have noticed their odd behavior. Gumshoe doesn’t want to take action, since he’s worried his pay will go down…even more. Maya on the other hand, fueled by determination and lack of burgers bought for her from Nick, has hatched a…rather unique plan.
Maya waited impatiently outside of the detective precinct, waiting for any sign of Gumshoe. She sighed and crossed her arms while kicking a rock across the pavement and muttered to herself, “What is taking that damn detective so long…”. Just as she was about to give up, she saw the precinct doors fly open and she looked up hopefully to see-
Oh. It was Edgeworth. He stormed out, seemingly annoyed about something but keeping his usual composed demeanor in place, while muttering “Damn it, Wright…” over and over again, as if that’s the only phrase he knew. He walked past Maya, completely ignoring her, and continued walking. Just as she was about to call out to him, she heard a familiar voice come out from the precinct.
“Hey pal!”
Maya turned around and shifted her attention to see Detective Gumshoe walk out and approach her, with his usual olive green trench coat on. “Gumshoe!” She exclaims, “I’ve been waiting for you! What took you so long?”
He nervously scratched the back of his head, grimacing as he recalled the events. “Ah so…Mr.Edgeworth has been extra cranky these days. He was just lecturing me on how to be a better detective because I stuttered once.”
Maya matched his expression, feeling a bit of sympathy for him. “Oof…that’s rough. Nick has been doing around the same thing. Telling me to ‘get a real job, spirit channeling is useless’. Like my channeling hasn’t saved his ass in court multiple times!” She then remembered why she was waiting for him in the first place. “Ah! So Gumshoe…I need to have a little talk with you.” her attitude shifted to a more plotting one.
Gumshoe took one look at her expression and immediately got worried, knowing how Maya can be. “Uh oh…what that expression for, pal? You’re getting me more anxious than I already am!”
Maya looked Gumshoe straight in the eye. “Look. You’ve noticed the tension between Edgeworth and Nick, surely.” Gumshoe nodded, still looking at her cautiously. “Good,” she continued, “Because I have a plan to make them become friends again! And maybe give us some free time…” Maya started to explain her plan in through detail, Gymshoe getting more and more interested with each word she said.
“…and THAT’S how we’ll get them to be buddies again!” She grinned at him, “quite a good plan, ain’t it? Plus, we’ll get some time without all the court drama!” Gumshoe slowly nodded thoughtfully while slowly tapping his chin, still thinking about it. “That’s…surprisingly not bad. Hmm…just one question.”
“Yeah?”
“Where are we getting the money for it?”
