The Last Sunset

Summary:

It's the end of the road. Things wouldn't be perfect without a last sunset.

Notes:

Thank you for introducing me to this movie. It's wacky and fun.

Work Text:

"Looks like it's the end of the road for us," Banzai said. He wiped at the blood that dripped in his eye, stole a glance at Perfect Tommy, who was leaning against him, blond hair stained red from the wound in his head.

“We lost the war,” Banzai said.

“No, man, we won the war, we just lost the battle,” Tommy said.

“Wonder if Jersey will step up to the plate. He’s got the brains for it,” Banzai said, groaning as he pressed a hand to his side.

"It's been a good run," Tommy said. "Had to end sometime." He checked his gun for bullets and shook his head. He listed against Banzai.

"Did you order up this sunset?" Banzai asked, blinking away a drop of blood as he helped Tommy sit up.

The sun was low, a molten gold ball that shimmered in the sky, painting it with soft yellows and burnt sienna.

"It wouldn't be the perfect ending without it," Tommy said, grinning wryly.

"And you've always got to be perfect, don't you?" Banzai asked, chuckling wetly.

"You know it." Tommy smiled crookedly and closed his eyes.

Banzai kissed Tommy’s head.

The sun sank lower, bruising the sky.
