You stood in front of the tall grass.
It was a nice day outside in the suburbs of Ebott where you lived, so you were out and about for a walk out of town in the sunshine. You hadn't been this way before, and the grass was fairly high, but it looked a good route through to where the local shops were.
You had been doing pretty well for yourself lately, having frankly lucked out with investments enough you were surprised to realise you could leave it all be and take in a modest but regular income now, while just… enjoying the world! So today was the day. You knew what you wanted to devote your life to, and got it into your head to just start with getting out and walking where you liked. If you got that far today, one shop in particular was the destination you had in mind…
But today had one more surprise for you, as when you went to take a step forward into the grass, the tree you were walking past grabbed you!
“Hey! Wait! Don’t go out that way! It’s unsafe! Wild Bitties live in that tall grass!”
The tree released your arm, as you focused on calming down from your racing heart rate, “Well… I know one does. The poor fella here needs help really, but he’s a bit hostile to humans, so you need your own bitty for your protection to get ones like him to leave you be.” The tree, who was evidently a monster, paused thoughtfully, scraping a branchy hand up to scratch under their bark jaw, as you leaned back to see their face.
“I know! Come meet me this evening at the college!” They exclaimed, as you flinched back at the gesturing mass of leaves. They really were oblivious they had made you jump out of your skin in shock at the sudden ambush, wow.
You went to respond, but the monster was already speed-walking off on its long root-like legs, calling back as it went, “Just ask for Professor Fir, and come along at 7.30 before my class!”
Well. There was that, you thought, as you just called out “Okay!” then gave up at anything else that wouldn't need shouting.
Professor Fir, was it? They were talking about getting you a bitty? You stared at the empty looking grass. And there was one right here, in need of help?
It looks like you can both get a bitty at the college, plus help out a stray. You knew in your heart you would convince the stray to let you adopt it. It wasn't presumptuous, more a really weird gut feeling, or in your soul… It might be unsafe to try to help the stray bitty straight away though. But if you were going to get a bittybones as your very first, it seems you have a choice to make…
