Paradise Stolen

Summary:

Flufftober prompt 12 - Blizzard or Heatwave

Eden has fallen to the Federation

Notes:

The prompt took me on a journey only tangential to cold or hot weather here.

The rest of the mission is TBC next month.

Chapter Text

'Avalon!' Blake greeted his fellow rebel with a warm handshake and a glad smile.

'Blake!' The beautiful rebel leader answered with equal warmth, before her expression turned serious. 'I need your help on a mission. Your crew are the nearest people with the necessary skills to help the New Edenites, as the Federation calls them.'

Blake of course had known this was not going to be a social visit. The risk to all of them was too high to indulge in it for frivolous reasons.

'So Liberator will perform a fast fly-by, drawing the base's attention and acting as a decoy sending them on a wild goose chase. Jenna and Vila.' Blake looked at his pilot and thief, Jenna nodded regally to encourage him to continue, Vila met his eyes to show he was listening.

'You two will teleport down and steal one of the remaining transport ships while the interceptors are occupied.'

Jenna paused to turn it over in her mind, Zen's automatic piloting module and their craft's speed advantage made the plan feasible without her being in two places at once to pilot both vehicles.

'So what are we transporting for Avalon anyway? It must be something big for us to need another ship.' Vila asked.

'The last remaining population of Eden's native people.' Blake's jaw set and he frowned. 'Eden's rare ore deposits attracted the Federation's interest. Gradually the Edenites were forced further and further away from their temperate homelands as the mining operations expanded. The ones who resisted were killed over the past four decades. The workers' collective on Zedek 4 have accepted refugee Edenites and have allotted an archipelago off the main continent for the Edenites as a whole.

'One final village remains and with their food sources gone, their choices in the Southern polar region are down to remain and starve or flee to Zedek 4.'
