Chapter 1: The Plan

Chapter Text

April 1st, an anticlimactic and anxious day for Gen. The man, Gen Asagiri, was one to never pry about his birthday unless he wanted to use his mentalist skills to get something he wanted at times. Other than a few items like equipment from a mall, he had no reason to gloat about it.

He’d always get anxious about being the center of attention for one day, despite him being on multiple TV shows, Gen had still not settled into being a country-wide celebrity; his face sometimes plastered on books, billboards, etc.

It was mostly fangirls, fanboys, and the media as in news reports making it a celebration. He appreciated the birthday wishes, art, and gifts, but he never understood why it was such a big parade of wishes for him. No other day was especially made for him, so why this one? The “haha”, funny joke day?

——————————————————————

On the day before his birthday, Gen had a genius idea of doing a mind bending April Fools prank; just to distract people like Yuzuriha and Minami from telling the whole colony about his birthday, he didn’t want to be the center of attention for one more day like in the Old World. They had amazing skills at memorizing birthdays for everyone to have a fair celebration. He didn’t even memorize his age, so what was the point of a celebration?

He walked over to Senkuu’s lab, pitching his idea over in hopes he’d cooperate with it.

He’d wipe some sweat on his forehead before walking over to Senkuu’s workspace, Gen didn’t want to be the center of attention for tomorrow, and he’d know Senkuu would get moody and have a lesser chance of him cooperating with his April Fools prank since he always got moody whenever people interrupted his space — especially in his lab time.

He’d knocked on the side panels of the lab, before entering, “Senku dear? Can I come in?” He said.

The genius had replied, “No. I wouldn’t want people crowding my space, but I guess you’ll make an exception.”

Gens head had tilted like a dog, and the cogs in his mind turned, “Oh? Whys that, do you like me that much? Already professing how comfortable you are with me and love me? Take me out to dinner first!” He guffawed.

Senkuu frowned slightly, “…No, I get your sly tricks and jokes, but you’re being too pushy now.” the green daikon chuckled, “Only because I know for a fact you’re always respectful of me and my space, and you never interrupt my working time. So, what do you want?” He asked.

“Well, you know my birthday…There’s something I’d like from you,” Gen twiddled his thumbs.

Senkuu snorted, “I knew it was your birthday and you’d want something, but I wasn’t sure if it was the second or the first. Yet, that’s smart asking for your birthday since you know I still owe you for the telescope. Sly bastard. Anyway, shoot.”

Gen chuckled, “So anyways, I never like being the center of attention — if you’d ever believe that. And you know my birthdays coming up, which would make me the star of the show for tomorrow. I can’t let that happen, can I? So, I was thinking if you’d cooperate with me for an April Fools prank so our dear friends would focus on something more…Flashy for the both of us.” He paused.

Senkuu raised his eyebrows, “Well, depending on what you’re asking. How flashy is the prank gonna be to mind bend the colony?” He asked.

Gen replied, “Nothing much, just maybe will bend your image a bit. Swapping clothes tomorrow for 24 hours. Nothing bad, but something many people will be confused about, and wearing each others clothes would spark interesting rumors. You would like to do a study on everyone, yes? Then this is perfect, study how their brain functions and what they’ll think about when we do this.”

Senkuu put his gun fingers into the air, “This isn’t something I’d usually do, right, but you’re also right, and would be practical…Well, this is a good argument I must say, might’ve taken you hours to recite before saying it to me, heh.” He laughed, “And I do still owe you for the nice birthday surprise two years ago. Alright, I’m sold, we can do this deal I guess. Won’t be much of a deal if these peon brains in the colony can manage their dirty thoughts.” He said.

Gen had folded his hands into his sleeves, relived Senkuu had agreed to this deal, “Okay, it’s settled. Tomorrow, on my birthday, Senkuu Ishigami, the science genius and me, Gen Asagiri, the mentalist, will swap clothes for the biggest prank of the century!” Gen had annoyingly announced it in Senkuu’s small lab.

“Okay, don’t gloat it a day before the prank when everyone can hear, or I won’t do it anymore.” The green haired said.

Gen had laughed and walked off, before leaving, he hung his arm around the door frame and turned back to Senkuu, whispering a small, relived ‘thank you’.

Senkuu had ran his hands through his hair after Gen left, thinking his gesture was quite charming.

——————————————————————

Gen had awoke early to travel to Senkuu’s lab, and the sun was pretty and riling to get up into the clear sky.

Gen had knocked on the side of the portable lab before walking in.

By then, Senkuu was already awake too, and had one leg up in his chair with an arm resting on it; already awaiting the mentalist to arrive.

Gen smirked, “So eager to see me, but anyways, you do remember the deal right?” He asked.

Senkuu smiled back, “Of course I do dear mentalist, happy birthday.”

Gen had waved a hand supposedly shooing Senkuu off, “Oh, stop flattering me! Anyways, let’s ensue with… The prank.” The two-toned haired said.

Senkuu had his head thunked, “Wait, I don’t want to see you change in front of me, just a bunch of dudes… Changing in front of each other…” His head tilted and tone shifted as he continued saying it.

Gen had grimaced, “Well, you are right. Well both keep on a clothing like pants and arm bands, just turn around and face the wall because I’m not changing outside the lab, it’s vulnerable and cold there.” He replied.

Senkuu shrugged, agreeing with the idea and turning around when Gen turned around at the same time.

They had stripped, but Senkuu was more nude because he didn’t have any pants on, and had threw their clothes back-to-back to each other because they didn’t want to see each others manhood.

——————————————————————

They’d had finally changed, both still keeping some accessories on them from their own clothing. Gen still had his turtle neck on, layering Senkuu’s shirt over it. While Senkuu still had his arm bands on, despite it not being visible, it was still Senkuu with the same bands.

Gen had did a 180, checking to see if the clothing looked and fit okay on him. “How do you never feel… Exposed in this? You don’t even have pants on.” He asked.

Senkuu snorted, “Heh, you get used to the feeling of having no pants. Remember, I’ve been wearing this for four years now.” He replied.

“Anyways, what about me? I haven’t worn a haori in years, probably not since I spent a New Years with my old man once. That was when I was, like, six or seven.” Senkuu questioned.

Gen had admired him quickly, before changing his expression like nothing happened, “You look like me. Me being pretty, fantastic, and intelligent.”

Senkuu chuckled, “I can’t tell if you’re calling me or both of us pretty, but don’t choke on that ego and pride, it may come to bite back later.” He replied.

They had both walked out of the lab, prepared for the mob that was about to overcome them when they got into the colony.
