Work Text:
King never really had a habit to say goodbye.
Gold insisted he had to say goodbye especially when calling her. That it was annoying of him to end the call because she sometimes hasn't finished speaking. Was it really his fault for thinking that a moment of silence meant she had nothing else to say? Even if she had more things to say, she could leave voice messages or texts like she usually did.
So after the nth time of her complaining about it, he waited for her to say goodbye and ended the call.
Apparently, that wasn't enough. Gold wanted confirmation that conversations over the phone are over when both parties say goodbye.
Truly, it was a bit annoying. What was the point in saying goodbye?
Saying goodbye sounded like saying last words anyway. Neither of them were going to be dead soon.
King couldn't really remember Gold's last words, let alone what she might have said while trying to get out. Even without the sounds of several alarms going off and the panic of the workers, he could only guess that she was screaming as the glass door and tube made sure no sound could escape.
Only when it was too late did he realize he wished she said goodbye—and that he had the chance to say goodbye to her. Instead, like every time, he never said it back.
Life has to continue regardless of what one is doing or what has happened to one. That's just life.
King used to not care on how one could communicate via phone—be it text, calls, or voice messages. But now? He was glad that Gold left some voice messages. Her voice was saved—her anger, happiness, sadness, curiosity and more. He could always hear his little girl speak again even if it was the same messages over and over again. At least he still had a part of her even if she was long gone.
So it was no surprise that he requested Purple to send some voice messages occasionally.
It was better to have texts and voice messages because the few times the two of them called, it was... awkward.
Both of them waited for the other to say goodbye.
