Chapter Text

✳️

Duncan rode onto the island already pissed off at what he was seeing, 'This ain't no 5 star resort!' Is what he thought to himself as his foot hit the dock. This place could crumble to pieces at any minute. Nobody stood out to him yet. Just a dork, jock, goth, surfer dude, and two obviously hot chicks. Of course the goth girl looked cool and all, but she would probably talk his ear off about society and junk.

The sound of the crummy party yacht backfiring in the water brought everyone's attention back. You almost fell face first off the boat as Chris helped you down. "Welcome to Canada y/n!" Chris welcomed you loudly to the other seven people waiting for you to join them across the dock. This was definitely out of your element to say the least, and you were already sea sick from the ride over. Chef tossed your many bags over and onto the rickety wood beneath your feet.

"Here, let me help you out" The tall, dark, and surprisingly compassionate jock offers up as he picks up your bags with ease. You pushed your sunglasses back onto your face to block from the blinding UVs. It was hot and you had definitely overdressed for the occasion thinking there would be pools and AC. But unfortunately the only air conditioner you would get was a loud fan and bathroom vent.

You thanked the guy with simple thank you, and a tired smile as you tossed your last duffel bag next to everyone else's. You definitely planned on minding your own business throughout this entire ordeal, this whole point of this was to step out of your comfort zones anyways. And you were definitely uncomfortable already. Dressed all black in the summer sun next to some dude with an array of unsafe looking piercings. He turned to you the second your gaze wandered off to his appearance. You looked back a little startled before he immediately tried talking to you.

"That's a lot of luggage for eight weeks isn't it?" He asked rhetorically to tease you in front of everyone. "I mean damn, who knows if you'll even stay here that long." He was getting snappy before the first day had even started, and it wasn't rubbing you the right way at all.

"Who knows if you'll even stay that long if you expect to talk to everyone that way." You snapped immediately, matching his callous tone. 'Wow this is not a great first impression, is it?' You reflected back to yourself silently before some guy in a red track suit flew over your head and into the pile of luggage beside you.

"OH SHIT-" you swore reflexively before accidentally bumping your back into that same guy you just decided you wanted to avoid. "Watch it, girl..." he grumbled as he shoved you off of him with a light push to the back. Not only was he rude without reason, but he was also pushing you just to push you. This set you off even more, there was something about him that made you irrationally angry.

The heel of your thick soled shoes connected with his toes instinctively out of irritation. He sucked in through his teeth obviously not giving a single care. In fact it looked like he may have been enjoying the interaction between you two. He wasn't very nice to the other contestants either, like how he mocked the nice surfer girl Bridgette about her surf board. Or how he held a needle to Noah's lip. Even with all that nobody seemed to care, especially Chris.

One by one, everyone was introduced and shuffled into a group to mingle, then eventually take a photo. "Everyone at the end of the dock for the group promo!" Chris shouted letting everyone  huddle around in a big group. You crouch down in front of Justin and Eva so Chris could snap the photo. "OOPS! forgot the lens cap." He noted some rolling their eyes. "Okay, one... two... oh- no wait... cards full! Hang on..." A few people groaned and murmured to each other before Chris was ready to take the final shot.

"Everyone say, WAWANAKWA!" "WAWANAKWA!"

They all repeated before the dock started to rattle and shake. Then wham! The  wood planks collapsed in on all the weight of twenty-four, sixteen year olds huddled up awkwardly.

Your point of view:

"Dry off and meet at the campfire in 10!" Chris yelled cheerily as I plummeted into the freezing cold water below. 'How is the surface scalding hot and the water ice cold! I HATE CANADA!' The incandescent rage flowing through my mind wanted me to rip all my hair soaking wet hair out, as I made it onto the still standing portion of the dock. Duncan pushed himself up as well shaking his hair like a wet dog, letting water propel straight at my face. All I could do was scoff and give him a dirty look before I shook out my shoes and continued back to the cabin to change.

Following behind the rest of the campers my shoes squeaking loudly, as if I'm SpongeBob on my way to work. The grass rustled behind me, letting me know Duncan was trying to catch up. Silently dreading the fact that I would actually have to talk to him sooner or later, I turn around with a furrowed brow to meet his eyes that were already staring daggers into me. 'Is he actually about to try and talk to me?... oh my god he's coming over. Nononono-' my brain starts to scramble as he slowed down next to me.

"Y/n?" He asked in an attempt to remember my name. That wasn't like him from what I had seen so far, what's he playing at?? I nod in response honestly not knowing what to expect next out of him. "Yeah." I murmured out to confirm, though still not looking at him in the face. In this moment I couldn't care less about what he had to say, but for some reason he just kept wanting to talk to me.

"You're not from here, right?" Duncan raised a finger to point at me vaguely, letting me know he was completely focused on me. 'Is he seriously trying to strike up a conversation after we basically just fought?!'  The whole interaction was confusing, but I eventually gave in anyways. "No, I'm from [state]" I sighed before wringing out my hair the best I could. "How far do you actually plan on getting in this though?" Duncan asked as a call back to our back and forth a few minutes ago. "I'm not gonna say till the end because that's honestly not likely, so I'm good with halfway." My frankly honest response made him scoff. I looked back at him with a nasty taken back expression. 'Why is he laughing?! Did I say something wrong?...'

"Don't look at me like that!" Duncan chucked loudly as you both followed behind everyone else. Neither of you had realized the camera men were behind you, catching the spat between you two. "I'm just sayin princess, with that attitude I'd expect you to be a bit more cocky, y'know?"'PRINCESS?! EW, AS IF!'  The nickname bursted my bubble entirely. "Uhg... don't call me that." I gagged a little before speeding up my pace to catch up with the other campers in the cabin.

Everyone grabbed any extra pair of clothes and the girls all headed to the communal bathroom to blow dry their hair, and mingle. Leshawna, Katie, Lindsay, and Heather weren't very happy about their hair getting drenched. Gwen was a whole other story. Her green and teal dye was dripping down her pale, agitated face. She was not having a good time from what we could all tell. I guess falling into the water kind of brought all the girls closer in a way, by getting all of us to get to know each other whilst looking like wet, cold, shivering, rodents.

Chris was waiting at the campfire up on this steep hill, far away from camp. Most sat on the tree stumps in front of him while others stood off to the side.

"This is camp Wawanakwa! Your home for the next eight weeks. The campers sitting around you will be your cabin mates, your competition, and maybe even your friends... Ya dig? The camper who manages to stay on Total Drama Island the longest, without getting voted off will get $100,000 dollars!" Chris announces as cameras zoom into his perfectly symmetrical face. But of course a special someone had to ruin the moment.

"Excuse me! What will the sleeping arrangements  be, because I'd like to request a bunk under her." The shrimp legged, tough guy motioned over to Heather. 'Ohhh! So he's flirting with everybody.' The gears in my brain finally came together and started spinning like normal again.

”They're not coed, are they?" Heather asked before Chris answered all of our prayers. "No. Girls get one side of each cabin, and dudes get the other." Sighs of relief were let out by a few of my peers which eventually led to a Q&A.

”Excuse me, Kyle. Can I have the cabin with a lake side view since I'm the prettiest?"

"I have to live with Sadie or I'll die!" "I'll break out in hives, it's true!"

"This cannot be happening..."

"Oh common guys, it'll be fun. It's like a big sleepover!"

"At least you don't have to sleep next to him..." I heard someone mutter behind me to Gwen. I followed her gaze back to Duncan who was giving a noogie to a deer by the tree line. I subconsciously looked him over before Chris started to announce teams.

"Hears the deal. We're gonna split you into two teams of 12. If I call your name out, go stand over there." He points to the side before listing people off.

"Gwen, Trent, Heather, Cody, Lindsay, Beth, Katie, Owen, Leshawna, Justin, Y/n, and Noah. From this moment on you are officially known as... the Screaming Gophers!" Chris called out before there were immediate complaints from Katie. "What about Sadie?"

"The rest of you over here. Geoff, Bridgette, D.J., Tyler, Sadie, Izzie, Martin (my oc), Courtney, Ezekiel, Duncan, Eva, and Harold!" Chris was on a roll when I came to answering questions. It's nice to put a name to a not so pleasant face.

“But Katie's a gopher! I have to be a gopher!" Sadie retorted before Cortney swooped in to calm her down. "You guys will officially be known as the Killer Bass!" Chris continued to explain about the confessionals and how we were being filled at all times.

[CUT TO CONFESSIONAL]

"I can already tell this shows gonna be popular for all the wrong reasons... Just try not to kill me Chris."

[CUT BACK]

"Alright, anymore questions? Cool. Let's go find your cabins." Chris asked, not giving us anytime to actually ask questions before he led us back to our correct cabins. "Gophers in the east cabin, and Bass in the west."

Heather was the first to step foot into the Cabin, "Bunk beds? Isn't this a little summer camp?" Heather pointed out the crystal clear gimmick as if we hadn't been here for thirty minutes already. "That's the idea, genius..." Gwen said what we were all thinking as Heather just stood in the doorway like an idiot. "Excuse me-" I said a bit impolitely as I pushed past her like everyone else. "Uhg- shut it, weird goth girls." She retorted with a spineless insult to Gwen's looks, and my attitude.

I tossed my night bag and pajamas on the bunk over Gwen's while a voice right in between male and female tried to strike up a conversation in our cabin. "You're so smart, I feel that." Cody nodded to Gwen, catching us all off our guards. "Shouldn't you be on the boys side?!" Gwen said accusatorially. Her large laced up boots connected with his behind, launching him out of the cabin to eat dirt.

———————————————————————— ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ————————————————————————

Your point of view:

I decided to mind my own business for the half hour Chris gave us to unpack. Me and Gwen shoved our clothing filled suitcases under the bed. Everything was finally at peace, my head resting against my pillow, and the crappy ac vent blowing coolish air at me. My eyes bursted open, and my head banged against the wood ceiling from Lindsay's blood curdling screech only an arms length away.

"KILL IT KILL IT!" She pleaded, standing on the small end table next to my bunk. I shot up to look at what she was talking about.

“A roach?! Seriously Lindsay, just step on it!" I groaned out in annoyance before I hopped out of my bunk to kill it for her. Unfortunately everyone else had the same idea as me. Harold lunged at it first, obviously trying to be the hero then the roach scurried between a few others feet, straight towards me. I was just about to go step on it until it was split in half with an axe.

My head spiked back up to Duncan who had just slaughtered the cockroach in one fell swoop. "Sooo overkill..." I murmured under my breath which apparently made him wanna pick up the front half of the roach, then wiggle it in my face, making me gag loudly at the insides crunching between his fingers. My hand swooped to smack his wrist out of my face. He chuckled mockingly before loosing interest, then simply walking off.

'What a duche...' I thought, turning around to see Tyler bragging to Lindsay about how he would have "totally done the same for her." As if anything Duncan ever did was cute.

———————————————————————— ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ————————————————————————

Duncan's point of view:

"LISTEN UP! I SERVE IT THREE TIMES A DAY, AND YOU WILL EAT IT THREE TIMES A DAY. Grab ya tray, get ya food, and sit ya butts down NOW!" Chef was already ordering us around like soldiers being drafted for war. I'm not unfamiliar with this kind of treatment, it's actually kind of refreshing.

I watched the two dorks up front ask about food groups, and hypoaller-whatever the fuck. Chef wasn't too happy about that one as he slapped some blood red slop onto a bun. Sloppy joes on the first day?! That's like the prison equivalent to gold plated steaks.

"Have a cow..." Owen murmured to Noah at the front of the line, chefs razor sharp hearing really wasn't disappointing today. "COME HERE BIG GUY. I didn't hear you..." chef ordered, making Owen eat his words right back up. They both picked up their trays and headed back down to the tables. The line got shorter before I happily got to take my food and sit across from y/n's table. Would you guess it? Someone's already complaining about this hand cooked meal.

"Excuse me, my nutritionist says I shouldn't eat any white sugar, white flour, or like... dairy." Lindsay is just the spitting image of picture perfect privilege... That don't mean she ain't smokin' hot though. "Just eat it." Y/n told Lindsay, taking a bite out of her sandwich and scarfing it down forcefully.

A few minutes had passed by before I saw someone's sandwich move across the floor. "Huh..." I squinted, then turned back around to finish the last of my delicious meal. I slid the trash into the garbage, and gave my tray back to chef as Chris' voice filled my already battered eardrums again.

"Welcome to the main lodge!" He announced in that same tv trained voice. Geoff was just about ready to barf up his meal as he requested a pizza be delivered. Chef strikes back again by throwing a large knife right past his head, nailing it into the wood paneling of the wall. "WOAH! It's cool G! Brown slop is totally cool!!" He flashed chef a forceful grin, letting him wander back into the abyss that is his "kitchen."

———————————————————————— ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ————————————————————————

"Your first challenge begins in ONE HOUR!" Chris' voice rang out in the silent cabin, letting you all exchange glances Katie being the one to break the silence. "What do you think they'll make us do?!" She asked D.J. "It's our first challenge. They should go easy on us."

Finishing that retched food then walking this steep uphill trail was a challenge in itself, but apparently Chris had one more thing in store for you all. Naturally you wonder what it could be through everyone else's panting. "Doesn't this cliff lead straight into the lake?!" You called out for confirmation from the other campers. They didn't really answer, instead they just looked at you like you had dropped a bomb overhead. "What- OH..." your hand came up to cover your mouth as you realized what the actual challenge is, and why you were told to get into your swimsuit.

Courtney interjected as quick as possible like always. "You guys aren't actually gonna jump right?!" Duncan shrugged from behind you, finally catching up with the group. "We all know you aren't." He looked back to Courtney, ridiculing her just as we reached the top of the hill. The first thing we see is Chris and the camera crew with shit eating grins plastered across their faces.
