Work Text:
Summer wasn’t doing anything different with their looks. Their hair, their clothing style, everything was the same, which is why they had no clue why Collis was looking at them like they were the most breathtaking person who ever lived.
“What’cha lookin at?” Summer asked.
“The most beautiful person ever,” Collis said with an exaggerated voice, though it was clear he meant it.
“I look like this every day hun’ and ya’ see me every day.”
“And you never get any less pretty.”
Summer had a hard time believing that. And an even harder time believing he meant it. Which admittedly felt bad to think, they knew Collis loved them. They just weren’t sure why he did.

The next day, when Summer woke up, they looked ike, for lack of a better word, a mess. They decided to not bother fixing it. But when they exited their room, Collis looked at them no differently than he did yesterday, still, as if they were the most beautiful person he’d ever seen.
Summer forced themself to not look confused. They didn’t know why, how, he could look at them like that, no matter what. When Michael never looked like he even liked them
They sat by Collis on the couch.
“Morning, hot stuff.” Collis greeted.
Summer rolled their eyes lovingly. “I doubt I could be considered hot stuff right now.”
“Well, that's a lie.” Collis stated flatly.
Summer paused. He said it so definitively, like it was just a fact that they were attractive.
“You’d think I’m hot no matter what I look like.”
“Yeah, because I have eyes.” Collis replied
Summer sighed, and Collis softened.
“You ok?” Collis asked.
Suddenly, the floor was very interesting to Summer as they looked down, “Sorry. Just, I don’t know.”
“Is it something with Michael?” Collis asked, but it didn’t sound like a question.
Summer tensed and Collis pulled away slightly, even though he wasn’t even touching them, “Sorry, probably shouldn’t have asked.”
“No. No, it’s… It’s fine. You’re just so different. Good different, but it's still hard ta’ get used to.” Summer shrugged, “Ya know all the love.”
Collis paused as he thought about what to say, “I’m sorry Michael was a dumbass and didn’t treat you how you deserve.” He settled on which earned a small chuckle from Summer.
“I’m glad you’re here now.” Summer said, leaning on him.
“Me too.”
