Fuller’s Cemetery. Walking through the unkempt grass and dodging the smaller grave markers, Nellie clutched the bouquet of Forget-Me-Nots she had brought with her tighter in her hand. She doesn't really know the symbolism behind them, apparently that’s a thing with flowers..? Honestly, she just likes the name. It's rather fitting, in her opinion.
“Hope no one got here first…” Nellie thought as she approached her destination. Of course, she'd be wrong. The first thing she noticed was a figure sitting by the grave, the next was the two bundles of flowers lying in front of the stone. Nellie groaned, annoyed over losing the imaginary competition she had made up in her mind. The figure doesn't even flinch at her sudden noise, just stares mindlessly at the engraved words that Nellie refuses to acknowledge.
“Hey Kath.” Nellie spoke, setting her bouquet down with the other two. Katie sits up a little to properly look at her friend, before returning her attention to the grave in front of the two. Nellie frowns, her knee-jerk reaction to yell at him nearly kicking in before she takes a deep breath and sighs, not caring if she sounds harsh.
“Katie-”
“Hi. Nellie.” Katie mutters, calming his friend’s rising annoyance. “There ya are, spacey! Glad ya came back down to Earth, you were worrying me!” Nellie chuckles while Katie looks away. It's quiet for a while before the taller of the two speaks up. She doesn't stop talking for quite awhile, loving the sound of her own voice while Katie wishes he brought a blade with him.
Nellie's little tirade is interrupted as Katie slaps a hand over the other's mouth, causing a light red to gather in the taller’s cheeks. She looks down at the brunette, only growing more flustered as those sky blue eyes glare up at her. “Shut up. Please.” All Nellie could do was nod, not wanting to anger her friend further.
The two fall into their silence once again as the shorter lets his hand drop, returning it to his leg that he grips tightly. Katie stares at the grave, Nellie watches Katie.
“It was my fault.” Katie mumbles, earning her a tight hug that only makes her more uncomfortable.
“Kates, you know it wasn't. A-... H-He tripped. You did what you could.” Nellie quickly replies, squeezing her friend to her chest. Katie doesn't reply, only moving to pull away from the ginger next to her.
Katie is still there when Nellie leaves, not even twitching to acknowledge the other when she says goodbye.
She reaches out to him, grasping his limp hand tightly and intertwining their fingers. She is not met with a response.
