Chapter Text
It was cold, really cold if you would ask Megan who had been freezing since her car decided to break down in the middle of nowhere, leaving her completely stranded in… well in the middle of nowhere.
And Megan meant it, when she said that she was stranded. There were NO SIGNS of anything, not even animals or cars or any signs telling her where she was or what the next exit would be.
She had wandered around a bit to find something—anything but had sadly come back to her car with no other way to get out of here. So all she could do was stand with her arm stretched out and a thumb up, in desperate hope that someone would stop to give her a lift. She didn’t even care who the person was giving her a lift, all she cared was to get out of here before she went crazy and ran into the forest, disappearing somewhere and going missing.
If anyone even bothered to report that.
“Come on, please world pleaseee make someone drive by” Megan let out a sigh, hugging herself and looking up at the moon. She had never been a believer but hell did she wish that the gods of this world would do her justice and send someone to rescue Megan from this cold.
Did Megan already mention that there were absolutely no cars? No she didn’t? Well here’s the thing. Megan had been driving this route for what felt like hours before her car broke down, and she had seen no one else while driving by, at first she thought that maybe she had caught a lucky day and didn’t have to deal with traffic jams or any dumb drivers but then she slowly realized that she accidentally took the longer route, which of course no one else in the world took.
So not only had she wasted her time and gas—she had also lowered her chances of getting rescued because now that she thought about it, the chances of getting attacked by a pigeon was higher than a driver driving by and actually giving her a lift.
And even if someone drove by, she was sure that they wouldn’t stop considering it was 2am and seeing a girl in the middle of nowhere would be pretty scary.
“Just my luck, isn’t it…” She muttered to herself and looked back at her car which was no way in hell gonna start up.
So Megan might or might not have actually bought someone’s stolen car without realizing it. On top of that, the car was absolutely trash, it barely even could go faster than 100kmh and coughed like a chain smoker.
Lesson learned; Never buy a car on ebay.
Just then she heard the sound of a car approaching, her head snapped in the direction of the car and a smile formed on her face. That’s it! This was her chance of getting saved from this hellhole!
She jumped with her hands waving in a panicky way, hoping that the driver would actually see her.
“HEYY! HEY! SLOW DOWN!!!!” Megan screamed in a rushed voice as she saw that the driver was in fact not slowing down.
Instead the driver drove straight past her without even noticing Megan, and lost in desperation to find a way out of here, Megan started running for the car.
“NO! NO PLEASE COME BACKK…No… how am I supposed to get out of here…” She let her shoulder fall with a sigh and closed her eyes. Maybe she should just give up and sleep in the cold car for the night.
“Hey! Are you alright?” A soft, worried voice called out.
Megan flinched and immediately stepped back, she looked up to see a girl staring at her with worry painting her eyes.
It was the same car that drove past her.
The girl had surprisingly seen her and made a U-Turn just to check if Megan was alright.
Megan seriously wanted to throw herself on the girl and kiss her, just because she actually stopped.
“I—Oh my god, you actually came back…” She said in disbelief, the girl only nodded before stepping out of her car and closing the door behind her.
She walked over to Megan and looked at the old car, which was not gonna start even with billions of fixings.
“Yeah, of course I did, you were waving like a madman and at first I thought that you were some ghost until I saw the car behind you, so I had to make a U-turn to make sure you were okay.” Her eyes stayed on Megan, who was rubbing her neck nervously.
“Uh yeah, I am not okay. My car broke down and is not starting up and I need a lift, so I was hoping that someone would pass by and… you did.” Megan didn’t really know how to ask the stranger for a lift without sounding pushy.
“I can give you a lift. Where are you heading?” The girl asked with a tone in her voice that Megan couldn’t read—it wasn’t a bad tone, but not really a good one either, just… bored? Kind of?”
“Florida.”
“Florida?! That’s like… 2'200 miles away! 32 Hours if we drove non stop, and you were going to go there with THAT car? Why didn’t you just book a flight? It would’ve been cheaper anyways.” The girl looked with disbelief at Megan.
it was one thing to drive with that trash kind of car but driving to Florida??? Well yeah, Yoonchae knew that this girl was probably out of her mind or something. Maybe she shouldn’t have stopped.
But Florida… after all, she could afford to give this crazy girl a lift; besides, she had nothing else to do. And it would bring good karma and social credits if she gave this girl a ride, right?
“Stop judging me! I didn’t book a flight because… I… I didn’t think about that part actually.”
“Whatever, hop in my car, I can take you there. My name is Yoonchae by the way.” Yoonchae turned around to walk back to her car, thinking that Megan would follow her.
Instead Megan ran up to Yoonchae from behind and hugged her tightly, so tight that Yoonchae could barely even breath but she didn’t push the girl away, she let herself be crushed to death.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I owe you big time! Thank you sooo much Yoonchae. I’m Megan, and again Thank you soo much!!!” Megan kissed Yoonchae’s cheek and the girl froze.
No one had ever dared to kiss her cheek or even hug her at all because according to people her aura had always screamed ‘do not touch me or you’ll be found dead.’ but being hugged and even kissed by a complete stranger… wasn’t something Yoonchae thought she wouldn’t mind.
Maybe she just didn’t mind that the girl was Megan.
Yoonchae turned around again and saw that Megan was already sitting in the passenger seat with a big grin. She rolled the window down. “Hey, Yoonchae, could you be so nice and put my suitcase in the trunk? Thank youuu!!!” She rolled the window happily up before Yoonchae could even say something.
Still Yoonchae didn’t mind. Surprisingly she found herself getting excited about this road trip.
She grabbed Megan’s suitcase which was like really heavy, and put it in the trunk before carefully closing it with a light thud.
With that she walked to the driver’s seat and let herself be welcomed by the warmth of her car and the stranger next to her. It was still kind of awkward.
But again. Yoonchae didn’t mind.
“Well crazy girl, let’s get you to Florida.” She said teasingly, holding back a smile.
She peeked at Megan, as she slowly accelerated the car, only to find out that Megan had already fallen asleep and was breathing softly.
