Huohuo paced back and forth, her hands fidgety and legs trembling. It wasn't an unusual sight for the Foxian, but for a successful ghost hunting mission? Just a bit less common.
“I'm sure we'll find him soon, Huohuo. Maybe we'll find him on the next hunt.” Guinaifen gave Huohuo a reassuring pat on the back, halting her movements.
“Huh? O-oh, y-yeah! I hope we do…” Huohuo shakes her head and sighs, hanging her head low. “I just wish Miss Sushang didn't have to leave so soon…”
“Yeah, too bad she left already, she's been pretty busy lately, huh?” Guinaifen tilted her head, tapping her chin as she let out a sigh. “Even though she's doing swordsman stuff, she still goes on these missions with us. That girl just can't take a break, can she?”
“Yeah… she's just really kind, isn't she?” Huohuo smiles as a warm blush creeps up her face.
“Yup, she sure is! Wish she'd take some time off in the morning though, it's been awhile since we've hung out outside of ghost hunting.”
“Yeah, it's been awhile, huh?”
Guinaifen nodded, before tilting her head in confusion. “Hm? You hang out with Shangshang before missions too?”
“O-oh, n-no! I-I just mean, uh…” Huohuo cleared her throat and fidgeted with her hands once more, her face quickly turning a dark shade of red. “I-I just mean that, it must've been awhile since you two hung out if she's that busy, y-yeah…”
Guinaifen nodded, taking a seat at the nearby table and leaning back, her body still a bit tired from their mission. “Oh, thought you two were hanging out without me. I was about to say…”
“N-no! We wouldn't do something like that, haha…” The Foxian took a seat next to her, averting her gaze from Guinaifen.
“Aw, I'm just kidding, Huohuo! I wouldn't mind, just gotta invite me next time, y'know?” She laughed and nudged Huohuo with her elbow, hoping for a lightheaded response, but was met with silence and a solemn look. “You good? The stress still getting to you?”
“Yeah, I just can't help but worry about Mr. Tail. I know he can take care of himself and now I don't have to worry about him teasing me or yelling at me, but…it's different not having him around.”
“Ah, yeah, that must be hard to deal with, huh? He's been with you for pretty much your whole life…” Guinaifen hummed and swung her legs back and forth, unsure of how to deal with the suddenly heavy air. It wasn't usually very hard for an entertainer like her to lighten the mood, but for someone she still wasn't all that familiar with? It was a bit tough deciding how to steer the topic away into something a bit more lighthearted, but with someone so easy to fluster like Huohuo, the answer to Guinaifen became clear. It wasn't the most graceful of options, but if it could get her mind off things, then it was a win in her book.
“Well, you know what I think is a great way to relieve some stress?” Guinaifen scooted closer to Huohuo and slung an arm around her shoulder, tugging her a bit closer to her.
“U-um, what is it?” Huohuo tilted her head curiously, interested in what Guinaifen had to suggest.
“Oh, you know what I mean.” The performer wiggled her eyebrows at Huohuo suggestively, but she still seemed clueless.
“I-I don't?”
“C'mon Huohuo, I know you've-”, she quickly looked the Foxian up and down, “Well, maybe not, but it'd be a good time to start if you're stressed.”
Huohuo looked on with a still confused expression, watching as Guinaifen started to make gestures with her fingers. Her eyes watched them carefully, following her movements with a still confused tilt to her head before she suddenly seemed to get it.
Instantly her face turned a bright red and she shook her head vigorously, stutters and half words escaping her mouth before a whole sentence finally left her trembling lips. “W-what are you saying, Miss Guinaifen! I-I don't, I-I mean I…” An embarrassed whine took the place of Huohuo’s stutters as she buried her face in her hands, while Guinaifen simply laughed, eventually letting go of the girl to help calm herself. Though, it was easier said than done, as soon as her fit died down it'd start right back up, and she was so caught up in trying to collect herself that she almost didn't hear Huohuo's quiet voice speak up.
“Um, since you suggested it, Miss Guinaifen, are you interested in helping me out with that?”
Guinaifen’s laughter came to a halt, her lightheaded mind not fully understanding Huohuo’s words. But the moment her mind was clear and she processed the Foxian’s words, she froze. She was not expecting Huohuo to take her suggestion seriously, and involve her in it, no less. She laughed nervously and looked away, feeling a burning heat rush to her cheeks. “O-oh, uh, Huohuo, I wasn't…” The words died in her throat as her eyes took a glimpse of the Foxian’s face that was partially hidden by her hands. Though she was clearly embarrassed beyond belief, her eyes held an unwavering resolve unlike how they usually shake and fill with tears the second something doesn't go right. It was a reaction Guinaifen wasn't expecting, and now she felt herself hesitating to tell her it was just a joke. How could she now when Huohuo was taking it so seriously? Who knows how badly she'd react if she took it back now. So against her better judgment, Guinaifen agreed.
“Um! Y-yeah! I, uh, wouldn't mind, I guess…”
“Oh, thank you Miss Guinaifen! Um, it's a bit sudden, so do you mind if we do it tomorrow? A-at my place, if that’s ok with you…”
“Oh, sure, that's fine! Sounds like a plan!” Guinaifen gave her a thumbs up and waved as Huohuo walked away, nervously mumbling to herself with a red face and small smile.
Once she was out of sight, it was Guinaifen's turn to bury her face in her hands. Already she had regretted what she'd done. It was just a joke, a way to help lighten the mood and change the subject, but now Guinaifen had plans to get down with a girl she had basically just met. It felt wrong on all fronts, she had never really seen Huohuo in that sort of way and never thought she would with how she acted and all, and that's not even mentioning the whole other problem she had. With her crush on Sushang that she's held for years, it felt like she was betraying her in a strange kind of way. Getting with another girl while she crushed on someone else made her feel bad for both parties, even if neither of them knew about it.
But it was too late to take it back now, she couldn't just stand her up, and if it was just a one time thing, then no harm done, right? The self reassurance did little to calm her growing nerves as she finally started heading home, and even the comfort of her own residence hardly eased her worries. She tossed and turned as she tried to sleep, but her mind went back to Huohuo and their plan for tomorrow. More and more uncertainties formed in her mind the longer she thought about it. This was the first time she'd be doing anything like this, and on that note, did Huohuo expect her to take the lead? Or was she secretly the aggressive type and Guinaifen would be the submissive one? More and more questions and possibilities filled her mind, only serving to make her more anxious for tomorrow’s events. It would be impossible for her to sleep at this rate, and it left Guinaifen with no choice but take a drastic measure.
She sat up straight in bed and slapped herself as hard as she could.
The stinging pain on her face and the ringing in her ears brought her back to reality and instantly washed away the anxieties she had.
Whatever happens tomorrow happens, there's no use worrying about it now when, realistically, there's nothing she can do until the moment actually arrives. Sure, she could call the whole thing off by shooting Huohuo a quick text, but it just felt wrong to do so after she already agreed. As nerve-wracking as this whole situation was, she couldn't find it in her to take it back. Especially not when it seemed like Huohuo was looking forward to it, Guinaifen couldn't imagine just how disappointed or embarrassed she'd be if she called the whole thing off.
The stinging on her cheek slowly subsided as she tucked herself back in, taking deep breaths to calm her still rapidly beating heart until it went back to a relaxed pace. No matter what happened tomorrow, she'd deal with it somehow, even if it meant sacrificing a bit of her dignity if Huohuo ended up being the dominant one.
As she slowly drifted back to sleep, Guinaifen couldn't help but feel a bit of excitement within the all of her anxiety.
She wandered around a lot after waking up, feeling restless as she watched the minutes turn into hours. She was still nervous, not as much as yesterday, and walking around aimlessly did little to calm the slight nerves she had. Really, she wasn't sure what to expect in just a few hours. How would they start? What would Huohuo do? What would she do? Did she even know what to do if it turns out Huohuo wants her to be the dominant one? She had imagined herself plenty of times with Sushang, but those were still just fantasies, she had absolutely no idea what she'd do in a real situation. And with Huohuo? She had even less of a clue of what to do with a girl like her.
She hadn't even thought about her like that before, and now here she was, wandering around, waiting for the time they're supposed to meet to get things on. Speaking of, she didn't even know where she had ended up. It'd been awhile since she started walking around, and she hadn't paid attention to where she was going even once.
Looking up, she froze at where she found herself in.
It was an adult store.
In hindsight, it made sense considering where her thoughts were currently at. She never had any interest in them before, but now that she was here, why not? Maybe she could find something for Huohuo in here. Who knows, maybe she expected Guinaifen to bring something? Or maybe she had something herself? But would it look bad if she showed up empty handed?
Guinaifen paced back and forth in front of the store as she thought of all the possibilities. Usually she wouldn't be hesitating this much, but she didn't want to embarrass herself or Huohuo. The longer she stayed here worrying about it though, the less time she had to mentally prepare for later. Also, the more she paced outside the store, the more likely it was for people to spot her, and she had a reputation to uphold.
Thinking it over once more, Guinaifen decided to just suck it up and go into the store and buy the first thing she thought Huohuo would enjoy. She didn't bother looking at any of the other patrons and hoped they didn't take much notice of her either. She couldn't even look the cashier in the eye as she made her purchase before quickly leaving.
The bag felt heavy in her hand despite having only bought two items, the second purchase was just a complement for the first, and she found herself already regretting it. But it was too late to take it back now. It'd be super embarrassing if she went back in and returned it after not even five minutes, and it was also getting closer to the time her and Huohuo were supposed to get things started. Pacing back and forth in front of the store took much longer than she thought.
Guinaifen held the bag close to her chest as she made her way over to Huohuo's place, checking her phone over and over again to make sure she didn't misread the time or address. Eventually, she made it to Huohuo's residence, and after checking the time once more, she rang the doorbell.
It took just a few seconds for the door to slowly open, and out poked Huohuo's head. "Oh, Miss Guinaifen. I didn't think you'd be here right on time." Huohuo fully opened the door for her and let her inside. "I-I didn't think you'd show up at all, either…"
"Of course not! I wouldn't do something like that." Guinaifen laughed, trying to ease her own worries as much as Huohuo's. Hearing that from her, she was glad she didn't bail. It probably would've broken her heart, and make things awkward for the future.
"What's that?" Huohuo suddenly asked, pointing to the bag in Guinaifen's hand.
"O-oh, this? It's just, uh…" Guinaifen found herself unable to say what it was, feeling too embarrassed about it now that she was here. "It's just a little something I bought, don't worry about it!" She said instead, not sure if now would be a good time to bring it up.
"Oh, ok. Then, um…" Huohuo fidgeted with her hands a bit before turning to the nearby stairs. "If you're ready, just follow me…"
"O-ok…" Guinaifen followed behind Huohuo up the stairs and into a rather tidy looking room. Her eyes immediately went to the bed before she quickly looked away. "Your room's pretty cute," Guinaifen comments, trying to lighten the mood a bit. If she was nervous, she was sure as hell Huohuo was even more so.
"You think so?" Huohuo turns around, looking up at Guinaifen. It's only then that Guinaifen realizes just how much taller she is than Huohuo, and that doesn't help her nerves one bit.
"Yeah, super cute!" She replied, though she hardly paid attention to the details of Huohuo's room. She was much too focused on what they'd be doing in here soon to properly look at her decor.
"Thanks. No one besides me and Mr. Tail have ever really been in here…"
"Really?"
"Y-yeah…" She answered, sounding a bit dejected.
It took Guinaifen a second to realize, or rather, remember why that would be. "Oh, well, I'm glad I'm your first then! I bet you didn't think this was how your first time having someone over would go, huh?" Guinaifen chuckled, hoping to lift her spirits up a bit.
Huohuo's face went bright red at Guinaifen's words, any lingering trace of sadness gone in an instant. "N-no! I definitely didn't…" She laughed nervously, her gaze averted to the side now. "So, um, is there anything you wanted to do first?" Huohuo asked quietly, her face flushing even more.
"H-huh?" Guinaifen seemed a bit taken back at the subject changing so quickly. Was Huohuo secretly really eager for this?
"Yeah. Is there anything you want to do to me first…?"
"Oh, oh yeah! That, uh…" Guinaifen tried not to sound like a nervous wreck that had never done anything like this before, but she knew her efforts were in vain. "Just do whatever you want, I guess…"
"W-What I want? Um…" Huohuo's brows furrowed in thought, she probably wasn't expecting to be asked what she wanted. Did she want Guinaifen to take the lead?

"No, it's ok! I'll just, um…" Huohuo messed with the fabric of her sleeves before slowly tugging it off, and for some reason, the sight of that made Guinaifen's mouth go dry. "You can sit there while I, uh, get ready…"
"Y-yeah! Of course! I'll just make myself comfy…" Guinaifen sat on the bed as Huohuo slowly stripped in front of her. She wasn't sure where to put her eyes—on the wall, the floor, on Huohuo? Did she want her to watch as she started to remove her shirt and look at her-
Guinaifen quickly looked away as soon as she got a peek of the pale skin underneath, her own face bright red just like Huohuo's. She listened to the sounds of her clothes rustling and being neatly folded on a nearby dresser, only getting more nervous as it continued.

Guinaifen took a deep breath in and slowly moved her eyes over to Huohuo's body. Her breath hitched at the sight.

The little uncertainty on Huohuo’s face leaves after that, and a warm smile takes its place. “We’ll see about that.”
