Work Text:
Nouances of pink and orange were wrapping the sky, as the evening scenery setteled in Miyagi Prefecture. A warm breeze was dancing through the sakura trees' branches, making their soft petals waltz in the atmosphere. A melodic chant of a bird could be heard in the distance, alongside the echoing sound of footsteps on the stone-paved alleys of Shiratorizawa Academy's campus.
-Oh, man~ Why can't Coach Washio go easy on us for once? whined Yamagata, throwing his head back to face the clouds.
-Beacause we are a powerhouse and must mentain that title. Easy training means no success. responded Ushijima bluntly, keeping his gaze locked onto the road.
-Of course you'd say that. sighted Kawanishi, before a certain red-haired lightened up the mood.
-Guys, GUYS! I have the best idea! he affirmed excitedly, waving his hands in the air.
The boys stopped in their tracks, sharing a knowing look. Every time Tendou had an idea, it was something crazy that would get them in trouble.
-*sigh* What is it Tendou? Shirabu was the first one to break the silence.
-Glad you asked! Well, since it is Friday today, how about we go to the new restaurant in the neighbourhood? suggested the ginger, and, suprisingly, approving murmurs rose among his teammates.
-That sounds great, actually. spoke Reon, then he turned to his roommate, who was shifting uncomfortably next to him.
-Something's wrong?
The blonde turned his figure to him, a glint of concern in his eyes.
-Kinda. I just remembered that...I got a project to finish due tomorrow. You know for...um..
-Sience? the toned male continued his phrase, recieving a nod from the setter.
-Yeah, that one. So, I guess I'll see you on Monday? Semi asked rhetorically, glancing at his colleagues.
-Sure. Good luck with your studying!
And so, the ash-blonde boy made its way to the school building, the sihlouettes of his teammates fading in the distance.
"Thanks, Reon. I owe you big time"

It was no secret that Semi loved volleyball. After all, he was a setter for Shiratorizawa Academy, one of the greatest teams in the country. Well, he was. Ever since Shirabu had joined, he was mostly put in the pinch server position. Not that he minded it that much: the junior was very talented, he had to admit. Unlike him, who felt the need to be acknowledged for his skills, Kenjiro focused on getting the best out of the spikers...and that was what the team acutally needed.
"At least this is something nobody can get away from me"
Letting out a soft sigh, the ash-blonde boy started swaying his fingers over the piano's keyboard, playing a soft tune. Yep, that's true. Eita loved volleyball, but music had truly filled his heart. Each beat, every rythm or musical note, helped him escape from the real, troublesome world, allowing him to relax.
He had always been supportive to Shirabu, but he couldn't deny that he felt jealous at some point. Standing there, in the music club's room, surrounded by instruments and sweet melodies, it reminded himself that nobody could replace him when it came to music.
However, even though he was aware of the fact that everyone was better at something than the others, he was still insecure about his passion, so he had kept it a secret. A part of him was afraid that his teammates would make fun of him if they'd found out.
That was certainly not true.
He had sort of a proof for this. I mean...when Reon saw him sneaking out of their dorm and heading to the music club's room for his little rehearsals, he didn't say anything offensive. He had simply asked him about it when he came back: no teasing, just words of encouragement. The toned male thought it was admirable, in fact: being talented in both sportive and artistic fields is quite impressive. Still, Eita wasn't sure of his other friends' reactions, and, after some 'negotiations', the two agreed that it'll remain between them... for now.
[...]
Meanwhile, as the boy was lost in thought and started playing another tune, a certain h/c girl walked past the club's room, her feet stopping in their tracks.
"Hold on a second...is that who I think it is?"
Curiosity washed over your body, as you took a glance through the crack of the door. There he was: the one and only, Semi Eita, playing his heart out on the piano. Soft rays of sunshine painted his face, making him seem almost...etheral.
The butterflies that were dancing in your stomach had suddenly calmed down, as the sound of your phone pierced the atmosphere.
"SHIT! C'monnnn! Why did it have to ring now?!"
You declined the call as fast as you could, but it was too late, as the setter stopped singing, his attention now shifted towards you. Locking your gaze to his, you couldn't tell what he was truly feeling: fear, due to his widened eyes, or anger, thanks to his flushed cheeks.
Whatever the case, there was no other option for you other than greeting him properly, since, well, you didn't want to be considered a coward by running down the hallway.
-That was pretty good, Semi-kun. you stated, cheerfully, entering the room.
He just stared at you, frozen in place, as your sihlouette approached him.
"L-L/N?! What is she doing here?"
-Are you...all right? you spoke again softly, waving a hand in front of his visage, hoping to wake him up from his trance.
-Y-yeah...he finally managed to reply, confusion and embarrassement written all over his features.
Noticing his troubled state, you tried comforting him:
-Look, I'm sorry if I startled you, and I really didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable. I know that music is some sort of 'secret passion' for you, but you really shouldn't be afraid to show your skills to someone else. You are very talented, Semi. you sighted, then continued. Anyways, I think it was about time we interracted, since you sneak into the club room every damn friday, when I have to complete the inventories. you finished, shaking your head with a grin.
-Wait...so you knew about this all along? he questioned you, dumbfouded.
-Of course I did! Who did you think was leaving the club room open? you teased, swaying your guitar case from over your shoulder and attaching your instrument to the amplyfier.
Then it hit him.
"Obviously she knew about this, dumbass! She is the music club's president, and that means she's responsible for the room's keys. There was no way the studio would remain open without a club member around. She must've noticed my attempts into sneaking here...and she was kind enough to let me play, without spreading rumours about my passion. That's just...just so nice of her."
Suddenly, a wave of greatfullness spread through his veins.
-Now let's play a tune, shall we? you requested, and he could only obey, his hands starting to dance on the keyboard once again.
And so, the two of you played together for a while, the rythmic chords of your guitar matching perfectly with the soft notes from his piano. The studio was filled with a joyful aura, a smile tugging both yours and Eita's lips.
Yup. That was the moment the boy truly realized that he was worried for nothing: sharing his passion for music with others felt WONDERFUL.
[...]
-Hey, L/N.
-Hm? you turned you gaze to him, finishing locking the music studio.
-I...Thank you. he whispered, a glint of apreciation shining in his eyes. For letting me stay in the studio, I mean. I'm sure I caused you some trouble. he added quickly, scratching the back of his neck.
-Don't worry about it. Besides, I'm glad that I finally got the chance to play with you! you nodded, giving him a warm smile.
Your response took him by surprise, a shade of pink corrupting his skin.
-Although, there is something you could do to make it up to me. you stated, mischieviously.
-Really? he quirked a brow, already determined to repay you for your kindness.
-Are you free on Sunday? There's a new coffee shop in town that I'd like to try.
His brain short circuited for a second.
"Hold on, is she...asking me out?"
-I guess I don't have any plans on Sunday. he managed to say, his blush deepening.
-Great! Meet me at the school gates, around...12? you proposed, recieving an approving hum from him.
-Okay, then. See ya!
And with that, the two of you parted ways.
