"Shit shit I really gotta pee guys." Kevin shoved his cup into Jason's hands.
As Kevin exited the hall dashing towards the bathroom he stopped as he heard sobbing coming from near the stairs. His curiosity spiked.
"Bathroom can wait." He mumbled to himself. Sitting on the stairs with her head in her hands he saw none other than Wendy Christensen. She was in his English class and they had spoken on a couple occasions.
"Uhhh Wendy?"
She jumped up. Even though she had mascara running down her face Kevin still thought she looked quite pretty. She wore a bright red dress that shimmered in the light.
"What the fuck?.. Kevin?"
"Are you okay?" Kevin blurted out.
Wendy blushed
"I'm fine." wiping her tears on her hand
"Liar liar pants on fire." Kevin smirked.
"Ha ha." Wendy said sarcastically.
"You're totally missing out on the dance."
"Does it look like I want to dance. I'm gonna go home.."
"Aww but you can't waste that pretty dress." Kevin raised an eyebrow .
Her face went bright red.
"My makeup is ruined anyways. I knew this was a bad idea." She mumbled to herself
"Well I still think you look pretty..." Kevin grinned "And I have an idea."
"What's your idea?" Wendy smirked
"I go grab you some tissues and take a piss because I think I'm actually gonna wet my pants and after that how about I take you someplace else?"
Wendy laughed
"Alright." She agreed.
Kevin bolted to the bathroom. Before he went back to Wendy he made sure to text Jason "Srry gtg go tell u later." He ran back to Wendy with a handful of paper towels in his grasp.
"Here My lady." He bowed and handed them to Wendy.
She giggled at his behaviour
"Thank you." She sniffled and wiped her face with the paper towels.
He held his hand out to her.
"Ready to go?"
Wendy nodded taking his hand.
The walk to Kevin's car was silent but more in a comforting silence.
The air was cold and it was already dark out.
Kevin opened the door and ushered Wendy in.
"How are you feeling now?" Kevin asked softly
"Better." Wendy smiled
"Do you like burgers?"
"Who doesn't?"
"Well you won't be disappointed." Kevin said as they pulled into a carpark for a small diner.
Wendy shivered as she stepped into the cool night air.
"Are you cold?" Kevin asked as he searched the back of his car and pulled out a grey hoodie offering it to her.
"Thanks." She smiled pulling it on.
"Alrightttt I'm hungry." Kevin said rubbing his hands together.
"Well let's go." She grabbed Kevin's hand and almost pulled him over.
He laughed "You must be hungry too."
They stepped into the mostly empty diner and sat down at a booth.
A tired looking waitress handed them menus.
"I definitely recommend the burger." Kevin was practically drooling at the thought.
"Sounds good." Wendy said feeling her own stomach rumble.
Kevin waved for the waitress.
"Can we get two burgers and uhhh one hot chocolate with extra cream and do you want anything to drink Wendy?"
She shook her head.
After the waitress left she laughed
"Hot chocolate extra cream?" She said raising an eyebrow
"Don't knock it till you try it Wen."
"Wen?" She asked blushing at the nickname
"Shit sorry that just slipped out."
"No no it's okay." She smiled
Suddenly the waitress emerged with Kevin's hot chocolate and their burgers.
"Wow that was quick." Wendy said but Kevin was already stuffing his face.
"Good right?" He asked grinning already finishing his burger.
She nodded taking another bite of her burger.
"You know red looks good on you." Kevin smirked.
Wendy looked down at her dress.
"You have ketchup on your face." Kevin laughed.
Wendy rolled her eyes
"Hilarious." She said sarcastically but with a smile plastered on her face.
"Thank you Kevin." Wendy said after taking the last bites of her burger.
"Hey no need to thank me and were not done yet." He replied while waving over the waitress for the bill.
"So what are we going to do now?" Wendy asked after Kevin had finished paying for the bill insisting he paid for Wendy's food as well.
"It's a surprise." He grinned
"I don't like surprises."
"Well you'll like this one."
"Alrightt, I trust you."
"Lets go then!" he said excitedly.
They walked to Kevin's car a slight breeze rustling their hair.
The drive was mostly quiet. Wendy wrapped her arms around herself taking in the scent of Kevin's hoodie. After a minute she realised what she was doing and flushed even though Kevin hadn't noticed.
"Almost there!" Kevin said somehow seemingly with plenty of energy despite the late hour.
Wendy smiled although it was late and she felt a little tired she didn't feel drained like she normally did with other people.
"We're here." Kevin announced as he parked his car and turned around to fish something out the back of his car. He pulled out a blanket adorned with SpongeBob.
Wendy laughed.
"It's my brothers." he remarked defensively.
"What do you even need that for?" Wendy questioned
"You'll see." Kevin responded getting out of the car.
Wendy followed him.
Kevin lay the blanket on a patch of grass nearby and sat down patting the spot next to him. Wendy sat next to him.
"So what's so special about this place?"
Kevin smiled "Look up."
Wendy looked up to see hundreds of stars scattered throughout the sky.
"Its so beautiful."
"I told you, you'd like it."
"I thought tonight was doing to be the worst night but its one of the best nights I've had in a long time."
Their hands touched and their fingers interlocked.
"Why were you so upset? What happened?" Kevin questioned
"Just some prick stood me up. I only agreed to go out with him because my friends encouraged me to get out there."
"Well I'm kinda glad he was a dick because this would've never happened if I didn't find you upset."
"I never thought I'd be going on a date with Kevin Fischer." Wendy laughed as she lay her head on his shoulder.
"I never thought I'd be going on a date with you Wendy. You're way out of my league."
"That's not true."
"It is Wen. You're smart and beautiful and funny."
Their faces were inches from each other now.
"You're so sweet..." Wendy mumbled leaning in closer.
Their lips touched gently then Kevin pulled her onto his lap, kissing her passionately.
They broke their kiss for a second and Wendy threw her arms around his neck.
"Thank you for tonight."
Wendy said but before Kevin could even respond she pulled him in for another kiss.
