Ashes of the Chosen One

Summary:

Harry Potter thought the nightmare ended in the graveyard.
He thought, after watching Cedric die, after being dragged through blood and fire and Voldemort, that someone, anyone would bring him home.
He thought there would be family. Safety. Maybe even love.

Instead, he is dumped at the Dursleys’ doorstep like garbage.
Told to wait.
Wait for news. Wait for help. Wait for something that never comes.

But waiting only makes the cracks deeper. And when the silence is too loud, when the pain and rage and fear finally devour him, something inside Harry snaps.

What happens when the Boy Who Lived stops trying to live?

Update as of August 29, 2025

When this fic began, it was intended to remain a Dead Dove: Do Not Eat work, leaning heavily into unflinching dark content. Over time, however, the story has shifted in tone. While these themes still appear (and warnings remain for safety), the narrative is no longer solely about darkness and despair.

Fluff, found family, humor, healing, and moments of softness have taken a much larger role. Because of this, the Dead Dove: Do Not Eat tag has been removed, as it no longer reflects the primary heart of the story.

This fic is still heavy at times, but it now also balances that weight with tenderness, resilience, and light.

Your boundaries matter. Your mental health matters.
There is still a long road ahead for the characters pain, silence, survival, and healing. But now there is softness and laughter too. Please care for yourself while reading.
