Azula awoke to Sokka’s neck pillow against her cheek, his head atop hers. She squinted, blinking a few times as she remembered where she was. The rather comfortable seats of the business class and the soft rumble of aircraft engines had lured them to sleep.
Azula looked around, spotting other passengers asleep, watching videos, or reading. There was one guest Sokka named “Chad” when they first boarded the plane. Chad was “raw-dogging” the whole flight. Azula briefly stared at him. It was amazing how that man could enjoy a nine-hour flight without any entertainment.
Next, she turned her attention to where the book she was reading went. Her copy of Red Rising had fallen to the floor along with the bag of peanuts Sokka was eating when she fell asleep. To think he fell asleep with food in his hands, Azula thought to herself with a smile. The flight tracker on the screen before her said they still had roughly two hours before landing at Narita International Airport. That should be enough time for her to finish reading.
Of course, now the challenge was getting her book without waking Sokka.
The day’s first flight from New Zealand took them to Brisbane, Australia. The married couple had to leave their hotel at three in the morning to arrive at the airport. The plane took off at six o’clock sharp. Poor Sokka needed his nap time.
Azula’s first idea was to lift Sokka’s head from hers. A few moments later, Azula grumbled, “Why are you so heavy?”
A soft sigh was her reply.
Just because he weighed at least one hundred pounds heavier than her did not mean he had any right to stop Azula from reading! The plot was increasing in pace. She needed to see if Darrow was going to…
And now Sokka was leaning even more onto her… Great.
At the Brisbane Airport, during their layover, Azula saw a set of new parents gently poke their child to get them to squirm into a new position. Azula thought the way the little boy stretched in his sleep was adorable. Maybe one day…
She gently poked her husband. He did not react. Azula poked slightly harder. No movement, once again. Azula was constantly surprised — and jealous— by what Sokka could sleep through. Storms, earthquakes, and their previous upstairs neighbors doing jumping jacks every night for the duration of their vacation did nothing to affect his beauty sleep. But to think she could full-on pinch him and he did not move was simply outrageous.
Tickling could do the trick. Years of tickle fights had taught Azula that Sokka was weak at his feet, sides, neck, and behind his knees. She prepared her strike, finding the most optimal location. Tickle tickle. He moved away! Her celebrations were quickly ended when his hand fell into her lap.
“Goodness, Sokka,” Azula whispered. Even his arm was heavy. Is this the price she must pay for having a husband as strong as him? Having to lug his muscular body around when she wants freedom from his grasp?
With one final huff, Sokka’s hand was now in his seat. Azula gave it a loving pat before grabbing her book and cleaning up the peanuts.
The sound of moving fabric startled her. That loving bastard was not going to fall into her seat while she was distracted! She quickly leaned back in time to catch Sokka’s head in her lap… Right atop of her closed book.
She laid her head on the headrest behind her. The most dramatic, defeated sigh escaped her lips. How was he comfortable? Azula hoped that the fool’s subconsciousness would move him soon. She placed her hands on his wolf tail. Playing with his hair was bound to be better than raw-dogging the flight.
Azula only hoped he did not drool on her book.
