D4 FES Remix: Legend Reborn

Summary:

It's the last day of D4 FES. and Peaky P-key is working hard for their showdown against Call of Artemis. After everything they went through, they're confident that they will win. But will they actually be able to take down the revived goddesses of the former age of DJing?

A better paced version of the first part of D4 FES Remix: Delightful Carnival.

Notes:

I wasn't the only one disappointed with the last part of the second D4 FES story, was I? It was so very rushed and Peaky P-key's story felt like it was brushed over very quickly when they arguably needed the most time for their development to properly be shown. Furthermore, it makes their attitude in side origin: Photon Maiden make no sense, when the events absolutely would have if this part was written properly. Really it should have been split into 2 parts, one for the last main stage battle and one for the shuffle stage (I know they probably did it that way so they would have an even number for the gachas, but literally just make the last event with a rerun gacha, it would be fine). Anyway, it bothered me so much that I rewrote the whole thing (I'll do the shuffle stage at a later point). Really, the entirety of the second D4 FES story felt so boring with all of these no conflict victories and the rival units that were completely unnecessary to the plot and actively made them worse, it actually would have made more sense for LyriLily to lose their round in order to hammer in their themes, but I can't be asked to rewrite the entirety of the story so I'm just picking out the worst offenders. In this version of events, the one on one battles are removed, replaced with whole day ranking similar to the first story. A lot of the dialogue is taken from the original story to make it feel like a part of the main story. The goal is to develop Peaky's story in a natural way that easily leads into side origin.

By the way, this is my first fanfic in this fandom. There's something quite humorous about the first fanfic I wrote in 3 fandoms I'm in being fix-its or rewrites. Anyways, I hope you enjoy.

Chapter 1: Last minute preparations

Summary:

To prepare for their show on D4 FES, Peaky P-key wake up early in the morning to practice.

Chapter Text

"Shinobu, wake up."

Shinobu rubs her eyes and looks up at the girl shaking her. "Come on, Yuka, it's way too early for this."

"Don't be like that. We all agreed to our final rehearsal early this morning. Because we're on the first slot of the day."

"That's right," Esora chimes in. "The audience can vote for their favourite unit at any time, so going first would maximise our chances of winning."

"Is that necessary, though? We're good enough to swipe all the votes regardless. We don't need to steal an advantage like that."

"Usually, I'd agree, but this time we're going against Call of Artemis," says Kyoko. "I don't want to leave anything up to chance."

Shinobu grumbles, "Well, if Kyoko says so, then I guess it's fine. Getting up this early is still a bother. I'm not built for mornings."

Yuka sighs, "Well, you'll have to get over it just for today. Hurry up and get ready, we have a rehearsal to attend."

"I'm coming, I'm coming."

The four of them get ready and head to the rehearsal room. There, they perform the set they had prepared for the stage in full.

Kyoko exhales in relief once they finish. "I think we did a good job here."

"We did," replies Yuka. "There were no mistakes in that one. In fact, this might turn out to be our best performance yet."

"It may be a bit too soon to say, but there is a good chance we could win with this," says Esora. "That said, Shinobu, are you not going to play keyboard like you did last time?"

"I only did that at the time because I was desperate," says the girl in question. "We levelled up our performance this time, so I don't think that's necessary. It's best if we stay with what we usually do."

"That's fine. Shinobu is a better DJ than I am, anyway," says Kyoko.

As Yuka begins her cool-down stretches, she asks, "So, what are we going to do now? We still have some time left before we go backstage."

"There's no point in burning ourselves out before we go on. Let's just go out to some of the stalls and relax for a bit," Kyoko suggests.

Esora responds with, "Good idea. Being in a good mindset is just as important for performing well as practice is."

"Well, then, let's go," says Shinobu. The group clear out the practice room and walk out.
