Work Text:
There lived a boy in a cupboard. It was a small cupboard, with just enough space for a bed, and a large box containing all his possessions. They weren’t exactly the his possessions, though. It would be more accurate to call them items he was allowed to use. It didn’t bother him — he’d never really wanted anything anyway. After all, it didn’t matter if you wanted something as long as you didn’t need it, and he didn’t need anything.
The reason Harry didn’t need anything was because he had his thoughts — to call them thoughts, however, was a disservice. He had trained his mind so that he could have dreams as vivid as real life. In these dreams, he could do literally anything. Sometimes, he even made himself forget they were dreams, and he would just lie in his bed while exploring the world. He didn’t need to care about anything. Unfortunately for him, Harry still cared.
