Sweet Like Honey

Summary:

When Mia began working for Professor Sumdac, she thought she'd just be working in a lab, filing papers, and occasionally looking after the Professor’s eccentric daughter. But after being saved by a team of robots from outer space called the Autobots, she's finding herself caught up in a million year war with them and another group called the Decepticons.

Also why is the yellow Autobot kinda cute?

Notes:

Hey guys! Super excited to start this fic. There are not enough stories out there that actually follow the episodes, so I thought I'd change that!

Always happy to hear from everyone and let me know what you think in the comments!

Chapter 1: Transform and Roll Out!, Part 1

Chapter Text

“Hey, watch where you’re going!”

A man shouted as he was almost barreled into by a woman skating down the sidewalk at a rapid pace. The mistake caused her to stumble a little, but she quickly reoriented herself and kept moving.

“Sorry, sorry!”

She turned her head to look back at him, harboring a sheepish look on her freckled face, and shot up a hand to wave back in apology.

Mia found her rhythm again, cutting through the crowds with ease. Her speed allowed the world to fade away as the people she passed turned into one big blur. She panted as she began to work up a sweat, her short white hair whipping behind her as she pushed herself to go faster.

This is what she loved most about testing her equipment herself: feeling firsthand how everything worked. Weaving through the crowds, she could already imagine the different ways she could modify her skates to increase speed, improve turns, and create a smoother ride. She wanted people to feel exactly how she felt right now…

at peace.

A loud honk snapped her out of her thoughts, and she dodged the bumper of a taxi cab right before it could slam into her legs.

Okay, peace over.
Shaking off the encounter, she turned her focus back to her surroundings and saw that the lab was quickly approaching. The doors of the building came into view, and she noticed a familiar figure standing out front. Narrowing her eyes, she leaned down and aimed for her target, a wide grin breaking out on her face.

Sari was starting to think she was never gonna show up. Tapping her foot on the ground, she looked down the few streets that bordered Sumdac Systems, searching for any sign of her friend. Bringing her gaze down to the stopwatch in her hands, she watched as the seconds ticked by and groaned.

“Ughh, where is she?”

The sound of wheels rolling down the pavement suddenly caught the girl's attention. She quickly looked up to see which direction it was coming from, and a smile broke out on her face when she noticed who was approaching. Holding up the stopwatch, she turned toward the approaching figure, struck a theatrical pose, and began to narrate Mia’s arrival as if she were a sports announcer.

“Here she is, folks – the one and only Mia Weaver! Fastest skater in all of Detroit, looking to beat her most recent speed record. But is she fast enough? Let’s find out.”

Sari held her thumb over the stop button, honed in on Mia’s fast approach.

“It’s down to the wire with five seconds to go, will she do it? Can she beat her record?”

When the woman was finally in range, she clicked the stop button, yelling “TIME!” as Mia looped around the younger girl to slow down. After a few loops, Mia finally rolled to a stop and took a deep and exaggerated bow at the sound of Sari’s cheers.

“Thank you, thank you – what a great audience!” Rising from her bow, Mia caught her breath and looked down at Sari. “Well? What’s the final word from our panel? How’d I do?”

Sari looked down at the stopwatch to see what the final time was. “Most impressive… BUT! Not quite a record breaker, you were about three seconds off from last week's record.”

Sari dangled the stopwatch in front of Mia, showing that the time had stopped at five minutes and thirty-two seconds. Exactly three seconds off from her last attempt. The woman tipped her head back and groaned. “Ugh, I was so close, if I hadn’t tripped up I would have beaten my time for sure.”

Looking down at her skates, Mia rolled her foot back and forth – contemplating. “Maybe it’s time I gave these guys another upgrade; they didn’t turn nearly fast enough. I’ll have to make a pit stop at the lab sometime today and make a few adjustments.”

Sari crouched down to get a better look at the custom inlines. “So what slowed you down this time? You’ve been pretty on top of beating your records lately.”

Sheepishly, Mia rubbed the back of her neck. “Okay, so maybe it wasn’t really the skates fault this time. I did almost hit a guy on the way over.”

Sari stopped her evaluation and looked up at Mia. “Oh my gosh wait, you almost hit a guy on the way over?” She began to laugh.

Mia smiled and lightly elbowed the giggling girl when she finally stood up.

“Yes, keyword almost. But the universe got me back. I also almost got flattened by a taxi, so everything’s even now.” This only seemed to make the girl laugh harder, and Mia couldn’t help but chuckle along with her. “But anyway, it never hurts to fine-tune, especially in circumstances like these.”
Tapping her skates together, the inlines began rolling up and off her feet. Transforming themselves back into their anklet modes.

Sari became transfixed again. “The way your skates transform is so cool! How’d you come up with that design?”

Mia bent down and adjusted the anklets to make sure they were situated properly. “This was something your dad taught me actually, so I can’t really take all the credit.”

Standing back up, the woman clapped her hands together and looked down at her charge. “Alright kid, it's time to get down to business. We got a few lessons we have to go over with tutor-bot before we can mess around.”

Sari’s face immediately fell as she let out a long-winded groan. “Ughhh, come on Mia, do we have to? Can’t we do something fun first before we have to do all the boring stuff? I just got a new racing game, and I’ve been dying to play it with someone! Can’t we play at least one round? Please?” Sari folded her hands together and looked up at Mia with wide, pleading eyes.

This tactic definitely used to work when Mia first started acting as the girl's part-time caretaker, but after a while, she became far less susceptible to Sari’s puppy dog eyes.

“Sorry kid, no can do. Your dad made it very clear, studying first – then goofing off.” Sari’s face fell flat at the woman’s words. “But…” Mia continued, “When we get done we can play a few rounds of your game, and if you want, I can teach you how to use my skates, how’s that sound?”

“Wait really? I can try them out?” The girl’s face immediately lit back up again. “Well, alright, but you gotta promise!” Sari stuck her pinky out, and Mia immediately looped hers with the girls, sealing the deal.

The two walked toward the entrance of the building. When they reached the doors, Sari scanned her access key and they both walked inside.

Mia opened her mouth to ask Sari what lesson she wanted to go over first, but was interrupted by the sound of robotic barking coming from down the hall. Suddenly, a little robotic dog came flying around the corner. Running around the girls a few times, he skidded to a stop and began jumping up on Mia’s legs, begging for attention. Reaching her hand down, she gave the little guy a few pats on the head. “Hey there Sparkplug, not causing too much trouble today I hope?”

As if aiming to prove her wrong – Sparkplug immediately set his sights on the key dangling around Sari’s neck. No longer focused on Mia, he took a flying leap and grabbed hold of it.

“Hey! Sparkplug, no, bad robot dog!!” Sari fought to keep the key away from the little troublemaker, but he eventually won the battle.

Intent on playing a game of keepaway, Sparkplug began running around Mia with Sari not too far behind him. His playful barks only seemed to anger the girl further. In a last-ditch effort to retrieve her stolen key, she pounced on him, but he dodged at the last second and made his escape back down the hall.

“Why you little, come back here!” As the dog rounded the corner, Sari got up from off the floor and began chasing after her pet.

“Wait Sari!” Mia exclaimed, but the girl was already out of sight. Groaning, the woman took off after the two, intent on keeping Sari out of trouble.

Making their way down the corridors, the girls were in hot pursuit of the little thief, but no matter how close they got, Sparkplug still managed to slip past them.

Before they knew it, the two had chased him all the way to the assembly line, where unbeknownst to them, Professor Sumdac was giving a tour of the facility. Rounding the corner, Sparkplug ran around the Professor with Sari following close behind. As she chased her dog around her dad a few times, she accidentally bumped into him.

“Sparkplug, get back here, you mangy little fur-bot! I mean now!”

Eventually, she managed to grab hold of the key and the two started a game of tug o’ war.

“My key is not a chew toy! Let. Go. Now!”

Stumbling on scene, Mia was immediately pushed to the ground along with Professor Sumdac and Sari, once Sparkplug decided to let go of the key.

Groaning, Mia rubbed her back and picked herself up off the floor. After straightening up, she noticed Professor Sumdac on the ground and immediately reached out a hand to help him up.

“Oh, I’m so sorry about that Professor, I forgot you were doing a tour down here today.” Professor Sumdac grabbed the woman’s hand, and she helped pull him up off the floor.

“That is quite alright, my dear.” He dusted himself off and looked over at his daughter – who looked sheepishly back at him.

“Sorry dad.”

Professor Sumdac wasted no time getting back on track and turned to address the kids in the tour group he was currently hosting.

“Forgive me children, this is my daughter Sari. And behind her is my lab assistant, Ms. Weaver.”

Mia waved at the kids in the tour group, and the kids enthusiastically waved back. Sari, on the other hand, was preoccupied with blowing a bubble with the gum she was chewing. When it finally got too big, it popped, and the remnants became stuck to her face and hair.

Professor Sumdac lightly elbowed Sari as she struggled to remove the gum from her face. “Sari, what do you say?”

“Anybody got a pair of scissors?” After struggling for a few seconds, Sari was able to peel the gum off of her face – and immediately popped it right back in her mouth to continue chewing it. “Eh, never mind.”

Mia snorted back a laugh behind her hand, and the other kids looked at Sari in disgust. One of the kids turned his gaze toward Mia and asked her a question.

“So what do you do?”

Mia turned her attention to the tour group, surprised she was being called on.

“Oh me? Well, I’m Professor Sumdac’s assistant. I mostly just make appointments, file papers, keep schedules, and help Mr. Sumdac around the lab when it’s needed. But I also have the great pleasure of watching over this little rugrat right here.” Mia playfully looped her arm around Sari’s neck and rubbed her knuckles against the girl’s hair. Sari swatted her hand away and grumbled before looking back up at Mia.

“You make your job sound so boring, you do way more than that.” Sari turned and proudly addressed the group. “Mia’s also super smart and helps my dad out a ton with his work, and she builds these really cool skates that can go super fast. Go on, show em’!” Sari gestured to the anklets Mia was wearing. Mia sheepishly tapped the rings together, and they began to fold around her feet, morphing back into her skates.

There was an excited murmur from the kids, and they began talking amongst one another about wanting a pair for themselves. Tapping her ankles together once more, the skates disappeared.

One of the kids on the tour turned his attention towards Sari and asked her a question of his own. “So, uh, what’s it like to grow up around all these cool robots?”

Sari looked back at the kid and shrugged.

“I dunno, what’s it like to go to school with other kids?”

Professor Sumdac moved to stand in front of Sari before she could continue.

“I apologize once again for the interruption.” Professor Sumdac began pushing Sari back towards Mia as she protested. “But my daughter must return to her studies now.” He glanced back at Mia, and she took that as her cue to take Sari.

“Come on, we’d better get started.” Mia put her hand behind Sari’s back and guided her away from the tour group. Sparkplug following close behind them.

Mia and Sari walked down the hallway in silence. The young girl had her arms folded over her chest as she stared down at the floor.

“Alright, spill, what’s going on with you? You’re not usually this quiet kiddo.” Mia glanced down at the girl as they continued walking. Sari opened her mouth to say something, but hesitated before speaking.

“Hey Mia — do you think I’m weird?”

The statement caught Mia off guard, and she looked at Sari in confusion.

“What brought this up?”

Sari refused to meet the woman’s gaze. “I dunno, it’s just, whenever I’m around other kids, they always seem weirded out by me, and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.” She stopped walking and continued to stare down at the floor.

Mia couldn’t say she was surprised by her feelings. It was no secret how kids reacted to Sari's presence. They always seemed pretty put off by her personality. But to her, Sari never seemed like the girl who let something like this get to her. However, the more Mia thought about it, the more it made sense.

“Yeah, you are kinda weird.” Sari snapped her head up in shock, a little hurt by the statement, but instead of finding a teasing look, she saw a genuine smile on Mia’s face instead. Noticing she’d finally caught Sari’s attention, the woman continued. “But who said weird is a bad thing? If you can’t be your true self around someone, then they aren’t the type of person you should be hanging out with. In life, you’ll find friends that will embrace every weird part of you, and those are the type of people you should keep around.” Sari stared up at Mia in admiration before cracking a smile.

“You mean like you?”

Mia chuckled, “Yeah, like me.” She leaned down and caught Sari in a headlock, rubbing her knuckles into the girl's hair again as she squealed with laughter.“Now! How about we go check out this new racing game of yours.”

“Really?” Sari’s face lit up as she escaped Mia’s clutches. “But I thought you said we had to study with tutor-bot first?”

She shrugged, “Eh, a game or two won’t hurt, and after we’ll get right back to it, okay?” Mia held out her pinky for Sari to shake. The girl grinned and hooked her finger onto Mia’s.

“Promise! But you better watch out – I’ve been playing a little by myself, and I have to say I’m pretty good, so good luck beating me!”

“Oh yeah? Well, we’ll have to see about that –” Her taunt was interrupted by the sound of a distant crash. A tremor shook through the building, and suddenly, the alarms that were littered around the hallway started to sound off.

Gaining her balance back, Mia looked at Sari.“Whoa, what is your dad up to?” The younger girl only shrugged in response.

“I dunno, but he’s always blowing stuff up, so it’s probably nothing too different from usual.”

The woman sported a reluctant look on her face. “I guess – but I still think we should leave, just in case.” Mia began to look around for an emergency exit. Amid the chaos, Sparkplug became fearful of the bright, flashing lights and the loud alarms going off around them. In his panicked state, he turned back the way they came and fled down the hall towards the assembly line.

“No, hey, Sparkplug – Get back here!” Sari took off after her fleeing dog.

“Sari, wait! We really need to go!” Her protest went unheard as Sari ran down the corridor and out of sight. Sighing in exasperation, Mia took off after the both of them.

Sari made her way back to the assembly room and was shocked to see the place completely trashed. Hearing a distant bark, she groaned in frustration and continued to look for the mischievous dog. Walking through the bent metal and broken assembly arms, she called out for him.

“Sparkplug! Sparkplug! Here Sparky, I got a nice tasty security key for you!” Sari waved the key around to try and lure him out. The sound of metal shifting above her caught her attention. “Sparkplug?”

“Sari!” Mia’s head popped up over the debris, “There you are!”. Carefully climbing over the piles of scrap, she slid down the side of the assembly line to get to Sari. “Come on kid, we have to go.” She grabbed Sari’s arm, guiding her towards the exit, but the girl slipped out of Mia’s grasp before they could get anywhere.

“No not yet! We still have to find Sparkplug.”

Mia huffed but gave in. “Alright, alright – but we gotta make it quick, we don’t know what caused this, and it’s better if we don’t find out.” The two of them began rummaging through the scrap and called out for the missing dog. A few barks were heard throughout the room, but the echo made it difficult to pinpoint where the sound was coming from.

Just when the two were about to give up, there was a quick movement right beside them. Sparkplug lept out of a pile of metal and grabbed the key around Sari’s neck once again. Once he had it in his grip, he made a break for the exit doors.

“Come on, are you kidding me? Get back here, you flea bitten-” Sari yelled in frustration at her key getting stolen once again.

“It looks like he’s heading for the doors. We’ll cut him off outside before he gets too far.”
Making their way through the exit, the two continued their pursuit of the little thief.

“Get back here! Sparkplug!” Sparkplug attempted to dodge around Sari, but was cut off by Mia at the last second, allowing the younger girl the opportunity to get a hold on him.

“Sparkplug!” Sari began trying to rip the key out of his mouth. “Let go!” As the two struggled, Mia’s attention was pulled away by the arrival of two police vehicles.

“Must have been a pretty bad explosion if the police are getting involved.” The green and yellow cars continued to approach, getting a bit too close for comfort. Mia backed up a little, not taking her eyes off the machines advancing on them. “Uh, Sari?”

The vehicles stopped in front of them right as Sari pulled the key out of Sparkplug’s mouth. Now noticing the cars, Sari flinched back and slowly moved to stand next to her guardian. The girls jumped out of their skin when the green car began talking.

“Hi little creatures, my name's Bulkhead – did you two lose your owner-bot?”

They stood in a stunned silence. Realizing the car was talking, Sari let out a high-pitched scream, startling the vehicles, and they backed up in surprise.

“That thing must be armed with some kind of high-frequency sonic weapon!” The yellow car cried out. Sari screamed again in response.

Snapping out of her stupor, Mia grabbed Sari by the shoulders and pushed the girl in front of her, urging her to run. “What the hell?! Go, go, go!”
They took off in the opposite direction, putting as much distance as possible between them and what Mia could only assume were two possessed cars. Glancing over her shoulder, she noticed the green SUV driving after them, intent on trying to talk them down.

“Don’t worry little creatures, I’m not gonna hurt you!”

Distracted by the car pursuing them, Mia failed to notice that something was blocking their path until they both collided with it. Stumbling back, she looked up and finally noticed the creature in front of them. She tried to push Sari behind her in a last-ditch effort to get her away, but the tentacle was far too quick, and wrapped around the both of them before they could turn and run.

Both girls screamed as they were lifted into the air and squeezed. From her vantage point, Mia could see more of the driverless vehicles show up to the scene, and similarly, these ones talked as well.

“What are those things?” The motorcycle was the first to pipe up.

“Whatever they are, they need our help. Autobots transform!” The fire truck responded in turn

Mia could hardly believe what she was seeing. The talking cars suddenly began to shift, transforming into giant robots. Soon, there were four of them at the ready.

Sari finally took notice of the commotion down below when the big red bot pulled out an axe, and her eyes immediately lit up in wonder. “Cool!”

Mia had to agree; never before had she seen anything like this. At the red bot’s command, the team of robots began their attack on the creature holding them. She cried out as the tentacle jerked violently – whipping them around as it was being attacked.

“Why don’t you pick on someone your own size!” The big green bot reared back and slammed its wrecking ball hand into the creature’s face. The arm that was holding Mia and Sari loosened its grip, causing the two to fall. Thinking as quickly as she could, Mia grabbed onto Sari and turned so that her back was facing the ground, hoping the girl could avoid as much of the impact as possible.

The impact never came, however, as at the last moment, the yellow robot of the group managed to catch them. It held both of them in its servos and made a beeline for the covered parking garage, trying to find cover. Glancing down at the two, it continued running and introduced itself.

“Hi, I’m Bumblebee!”

Still in shock, Mia didn’t think to respond, but Sari, being a bit too overeager for the situation, responded immediately.

“I’m Sari!”

The group reached the cover of the garage, and Bumblebee looked around to make sure it was safe before responding. “Oh don’t be, I like my name.”

That broke Mia out of her trance, and she stifled a giggle. Bumblebee focused his gaze on her and gave a confused smile.

“No, she’s not sorry, her name is Sari.”

Bumblebee’s optics lit up in realization, “Ah, I gotcha. So then what’s your name?”

“Mia. My name’s Mia.”

“Mia.” Bumblebee looked directly into her eyes, repeating her name softly. The stare was broken when Sari piped up with a question that Mia also wanted answered.

“What are you?”

Shaking his trance off, Bumblebee looked to Sari, “I’m an Autobot, well, actually, I’m a Cybertronian.” Bumblebee adjusted the two and continued to scout around the structure. Taking this time to keep asking Bumblebee questions, Mia asked one of her own, eager to know more about him and his friends.

“So wait, where are you guys from?”

Bumblebee spared her a quick glance before answering. “We’re from the planet Cybertron.” Well, that made sense – I mean, it was in the name.

“Naturally.” Mia huffed out a laugh

Bumblebee shot her a lopsided grin, but they were interrupted by a group of police drones surrounding them. Bringing his servos closer to his chassis, he suspiciously eyed the drones flying around and anticipated an attack. His suspicions were confirmed when the bots began firing at him.

Bumblebee dodged out of the way and covered the girls as best he could to prevent them from getting hit by any stray shots. Using one of his servos, he began to swat at the drones in an attempt to knock them off course. Finally, he got fed up with the constant dance of dodging stray beams.

Turning to look outside, Bumblebee noticed his team struggling with the monster. “I’d love to stick around and chat, but I gotta go.” Setting the girls down on the ground, he transformed his servo into a stinger. He aimed at the drones hovering around and used an electric shock to quickly dispatch them. Mia and Sari looked on in amazement as the bots fell one by one to the ground. Bumblebee gave them one last smile before he rejoined his team in fighting the monster.

Sari looked at Mia with stars in her eyes. “That was so cool, let’s go up to the roof and get a better look – come on!” Sari grabbed the woman’s wrist and started pulling her towards the stairwell that led to the roof.

“Alright, but we gotta stay out of the way, okay?” Sari spun around and gave a thumbs-up in response. The two made their way up the stairs and rushed over to the edge overlooking the battle.

The bots seemed to be holding their own, but the creature had no problem taking the hits they were throwing at it. Nothing seemed to be working. Down below, the group began conversing with one another. The big red bot handed something over to Bumblebee, and in turn, he transformed and sped back into the parking garage, one of the monster's tentacles in close pursuit. While they were distracted, the creature managed to grab onto both the red and green bots, pulling them towards it and absorbing them into its body.

The sound of an engine approaching caught Mia’s attention. She turned her head toward the car entrance to the roof and saw the yellow bot rapidly rounding the corner. Grabbing Sari, she pulled the both of them out of the way as Bumblebee got closer. They watched as he sped toward the edge, busted through the concrete wall, and transformed mid-air. Mia and Sari watched in amazement as he careened toward the monster and landed directly into its mouth, where it swallowed him instantly. Realizing what had happened, Sari cried out for Bumblebee, hoping he wasn’t hurt.

Silence hung in the air as the monster stood there. Suddenly, a yellow light began to envelop the creature, and it began to disintegrate before their very eyes, dropping all of the bots it swallowed back onto the ground.

Mia let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding when she saw the bots begin to pick themselves up off the ground. They were okay. The two made their way back down the structure to the bottom floor. Reaching the entrance, Mia noticed the group had transformed back into regular vehicles and looked as if they were getting ready to leave.

Mia turned to Sari. “Alright, looks like the fight’s over, and I bet your dad’s worried sick about you, so how about we go find him and – Hey!” Before Mia could finish, Sari made a beeline for Bumblebee.

“Bumblebee, is that you?”.

Bumblebee whipped around at the sound of Sari’s voice, “Sari?”

Sari leaned on the hood in excitement. “OhmygoshthatwassoamazingImfreakingoutyouweresocoolandsavedeveryonefromthatmonster I can’t believe it!” Sari rambled off. Enthused about what she had just witnessed.

Catching up with Sari, Mia put a hand on the girl's shoulder. “Whoa, Sari, let’s slow down there a little – give him some space.”

“She’s right,” Bumblebee agreed, “just take it easy, my friend’s hurt real bad, I have to go.” Much to Mia’s chagrin, Sari made her way to Bumblebee’s driver’s side door and hopped in.

“Sari!” Mia tried to call her back, but the girl continued to ramble on.

“But I want to know more about you! Let me come with you, please, please, please, I wanna help!” Sari, not taking no for an answer, continued to beg.

“Sari, let him go – it sounds like they have something really important to take care of, and besides, your dad is probably wondering where you are, and I have to keep an eye on you, I can’t let you go off with them on your own.” Mia attempted to reason with the girl.

Sari looked down in disappointment. “Oh alright… Can Mia come too?” Her face lit right back up again.

“What no!” Mia cried out in exasperation, “That’s not what I meant!”

Bumblebee interjected. “Hey, I totally want to know more about you guys too, but I don’t have time for this, okay?” He transformed his driver's side door into an arm and plucked Sari right out of the seat, dropping her on the ground.

Not taking no for an answer, Sari immediately tried crawling back inside. Reaching out, Mia attempted to pull her off of Bumblebee, as the girl continued to try and make her case as to why they should come along.

“I said roll out Bumblebee!” The argument was interrupted by the red bot calling for his teammate.

In a last-ditch effort, Sari tried to guilt him one last time. She looked at Bumblebee’s console with an impish grin on her face. “You can trust this face, can’t you?”

It was quiet for a moment before Bumblebee finally relented. “...Just keep out of sight until I can explain, and don’t touch anything.”

Mia couldn’t believe her ears. As Sari wiggled out of her hands and landed in the driver’s seat, she tried to backtrack. “Whoa, whoa, wait – you can’t be serious. Sari, we don’t even know where these guys are going, your dad is counting on me to look after you, I cannot let you go with him.”

Sari turned back to Mia and pulled out the biggest puppy dog eyes she’d ever seen. “Oh please, please, PLEASE, Mia! I promise I will never ask you for anything ever again. This is like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I can’t pass this up.” Mia still didn’t look convinced, so Sari tried a different angle. “Okay, so I can’t go alone – then come with us, that way you can still watch over me wherever we’re going and I promise I won’t leave your side!”

She was starting to crack.

“I hate to interrupt, but are you coming or not? Kinda running on a tight schedule here.” Bumblebee interjected, and it was the final nail in the coffin.

“Fine.” Sari’s grin looked as if it would split her face. “But you stay by my side, okay?” Mia put her pinky out, and Sari immediately pulled hers out and looped them together.

“Promise!”

Sari scooted over so Mia could slide into the driver’s seat next to her. She bent down out of sight as best she could.

As Bumblebee drove off, Sari shouted in excitement. “YES!” noticing she was being too loud, she curled up on the seat and lowered her voice, “I mean yes!”

Bumblebee rolled up the window and drove off. Mia noticed that Bumblebee was taking them underwater, and she immediately started to regret her decision. Her nerves spiked, and she gripped the seat under her. “God kid, the things I let you talk me into.” Mia shut her eyes and took deep breaths.

Sari was also starting to look a little nervous. “Uh, are we gonna be able to breathe down there?”

“Oh sure!” Bumblebee reassured.

Mia felt her heart rate begin to slow down a little, and she let out a sigh of relief.

“What’s breathe?”

Yeah, this was a bad idea.
