Martin Does It His Way

Summary:

A series of unconnected missing moments/short scene rewrites from the Harry Potter book series. Just a bit of wish fulfilment.

Will Feature: Weasley Family Fluff! Romione Alternative Get Togethers! Aunt Muriel! Percy! Badass McGonagall! Badass Neville! Rons Jeans!

The title is a reference to a Frasier episode where Martin writes his own Frank Sinatra songs to send to him which is very fanfictionesque and I think captures what I'm basically doing here.

Notes:

Posting some of my old work from the mid-2000s reminded me of being so excited about DH (of which I’m not much of a fan) and got me thinking I should do a full-on re-write of HBP and DH but I know that’s too big of a commitment right now so instead I’ll do some missing moments and scene rewrites instead.

Chapter 1: Making Up

Notes:

I feel like a lot is made of Ron and Ginny’s fight but they are siblings. Siblings say horrible stuff to each other all the time and make up. I feel like we really miss out on the closeness of Weasley family in the books but I also don’t think they are a family of particularly soppy words.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ginny was curled up next to Dean on one of the squashy Gryffindor couches. He and Seamus were boring on about some inside joke about football that she didn’t understand. Her eyes flicked up as the portrait hole opened and in came Ron.

They’d been avoiding each other the last few days but it was getting old. She looked up and caught his eye, he raised an eyebrow back at her and gestured to some seats by the fire. She patted Dean’s leg as she got up and strode over.

“Game of snap?” Ron offered

She nodded and sat down.

This was an old game, one they’d been playing since they were babies. Ron knew his role and she knew hers. They played two rounds of snap before Ron cleared his throat:

“M’sorry for being an arsehole.”

“Me too.”

They share a small smile.

Ginny hesitates.

“You know it really doesn’t matter that you haven’t…”

Ron just shakes his head at her.

“You know I don’t think you’re a…”

“I know.”

“It’s just people…people can be really cruel Ginny.”

She bites her lip, considering him.

“That song really bothered you didn’t it?”

Ron shrugs in response, she knows what that means, a resounding yes, yes it did.

She thinks about how to cheer him up.

“It doesn’t seem to have put Lavender off…”

Ron ducks his head, flushing red but a bit of a grin forms on his face.

“You think?”

“Mmmhmmm”

“SNAP!” They both shout diving for the cards.

Notes:

I know a lot of people write Ginny as mad at Ron about Lavender and of her knowing about Hermione liking him (and I do enjoy some of those fics) but I really don’t think that fits that well. Ginny’s response in the books to Ron and Lavender kissing is:

'Looking for Ron?’ She asked, smirking. ‘He’s over there, the filthy hypocrite.’ …’It looks like he’s eating her face doesn’t it? Said Ginny dispassionately. ‘But I suppose he’s got to refine his technique somehow. Good game, Harry.’

In other words she thinks it’s funny. And we find out later that she tells Fred and George who of course tease Ron about it - again indicating that she thinks it’s a silly thing to gossip about. It’s not exactly the actions of someone who feels super wronged on behalf of her friend…
