I thought this would be funny and I was right.

Work Text:

Weiss may have accepted that Ruby was a great team leader, but the fact remained that she was still a complete dolt. Seriously, who puts their scroll down in a field and just forgets about it? She was just lucky that Weiss’ scroll had good enough GPS tracking to narrow down where on campus it was, and she was feeling nice enough to help. They had split up to search the fairly secluded area that team RWBY liked to use for outdoor training. So far there was no sign of it in Weiss’ half, she huffed and considered going back. When she looked up from the grass she noticed a figure leaned up against the wall nearby. Looking closer, she recognised Jaune, though he had his back to her.

Maybe he had found Ruby’s scroll and she could get back to her studies! She made her way over to him, but as she approached she realized he wasn’t alone. Barely stifling a gasp, she hid behind a nearby pillar. Jaune Arc was making out with someone, and she was just nosey enough that she absolutely had to know who.

Cycling through the options, she couldn’t think of one that even made any sense. It was impossible for it to be any member of her own team, Yang and Blake were dating and Ruby was both not interested and on the opposite end of a field. The mere idea of it being Coco nearly made her laugh out loud, and it definitely wasn’t Velvette either. Too short to be Pyrrha and too tall to be Nora. Weiss was at a complete loss, and also had come to the slightly embarrassing realization that she only knew the names of four teams at Beacon.

She also came to the realisation that she had been staring at Jaune’s back while he kissed someone for far too long. Looking around she was relieved that there was nobody else around, she must look like a complete pervert right now. She nearly jumped out of her skin when she suddenly heard someone talking.

“You know the girls aren’t in the dorm right now.”

Eyes wide, she peered back around the pillar. She knew that voice, and without Jaune in the way she could clearly see long black hair and a magenta streak. Suddenly, she felt kind of stupid for assuming that Jaune was kissing a girl in the first place.

“I like the way you think,” Jaune said. He grabbed Ren by the wrist and pulled him off towards the dorms. Behind the pillar, Weiss covered her face as she flushed with embarrassment. She’d have to do something very nice for them to make up for her indiscretion.

“Weiss! I found it!” Ruby yelled across the lawn. Gathering herself, she resolved to not let Ruby know she’d seen anything out of the ordinary. There was a reason they hadn’t told them they were together, probably because her teammates are blabbermouths, and she refused to expose their secret.

“Finally! Let’s get back inside.” And hope to the brothers that she didn’t hear anything else coming from JNPR’s room.

Blake needed a nice, quiet place to read her book. Places like that were unfortunately difficult to find at Beacon. After being nearly knocked out of her favourite reading tree by a rogue frisbee she had angrily marched back into the school. Surely one of the classrooms would be empty, and the White Fang had given her plenty of practice picking locks if she had to. Peering in through the window, she found Oobleck had left his classroom already. She set to picking the lock when she heard voices down the hallway.

“Oh yeah? I don’t know if I believe that.” Nora’s voice carried through the air, spurring Blake to move faster.

“It’s true!” Jaune said.

“Then prove it.”

Blake poked her head around the corner to see how much time she had left. Just as she did, Jaune grabbed Nora by the shoulders and pinned her to the wall. She barely got a chance to gasp in surprise before Jaune’s lips were on hers. Completely forgetting about the lock for the moment, Blake watched with her mouth open in shock. She wondered if she should stop him, but Nora kissing back just as aggressively laid those worries to rest.

When Jaune pulled away, Nora leaned heavily on the wall for support. She grinned up at him, “I think you should prove it a little more. Really drive your point home.”

Jaune laughed, “Yeah, I can’t really afford to be arrested for public indecency.”

He turned to keep walking, Nora skipping after him. Right in Blake’s direction. She quickly opened the classroom door and hid inside as they turned the corner. Holding perfectly still as they passed by, she processed what she had just seen. How completely unexpected, much better than any plot twist that she could get in her book.

After being scolded by Ms.Goodwitch yet again for her poor hand to hand combat skills, Ruby decided she needed some serious help. Yang was great at it, but their fighting styles were just too different. There was only one person she could think that could help. If Pyrrha could get Jaune from completely untrained to skilled fighter then Ruby would take any scraps of training she was willing to give.

She knew that Pyrrha and Nora had plans to train that afternoon, surely if she just happened to be in the gym at the same time they’d let her join. So she waited, and wondered what was taking them so long. Sure JNPR was famously late for everything, but Pyrrha took her training very seriously.

After 10 minutes of waiting, Ruby decided to go find them ‘accidentally’ instead. She went to the locker room and immediately heard Pyrrha’s laugh by the door. “Nora, eventually we do have to spend a training session actually training.”

“We are training! We’re just not training our fighting.”

That piqued Ruby’s interest and she craned her neck to see around the lockers. Her face flushed as she saw Pyrrha leaning up against her locker with her arms around Nora’s shoulders. As Nora leaned up to kiss her, Ruby wondered to herself how she had managed to misread the situation so badly. Deciding it would be best to just ask Pyrrha for tips after class tomorrow, Ruby used the fact that they were both distracted by each other to fly herself straight past them out the door.

Yang couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Sitting in the back of the library, hidden from view by the shelves of books, Ren and Pyrrha were openly flirting with each other. Not to mention that they were sitting right in front of the book Yang needed for her report. She peered between two books as Ren reached out and brushed a lock of hair from Pyrrha’s face.

“You know, my mother always told me that red symbolised joy and luck. It suits you perfectly.”

With a light flush, Pyrrha turned away. “Oh Ren, you're such a charmer.”

“Is it working?”

Pretending to think for a moment, she smiled and leaned in to kiss him. He pulled her in closer, allowing his history book to slide out of his lap to the floor. The sound snapped Yang out of her shock and she turned to run back to the dorms, her homework completely forgotten.

When she burst in, the rest of her team looked up in surprise. After taking a second to catch her breath she flopped into the desk chair. “You guys are not going to believe what I just saw. Poor Nora.”

“Nora? What happened to her?” Ruby asked.

“I saw Ren kissing Pyrrha in the library! She's going to be heartbroken.” Yang said.

Blake tensed. Putting a hand on Yang's shoulder, she chuckled awkwardly. “Actually, I think she'll be alright.”

“Ren won't be when I'm done with him!” Weiss said. “How dare he! I mean, who in their right mind would ever cheat on Pyrrha with Jaune?”

“Hold on, Jaune?” Blake asked.

“I saw them kissing in the courtyard a few weeks ago. I was going to keep it a secret for their privacy, but if he's going behind Pyrrha’s back then I can't hold my tongue anymore.”

“But I saw Jaune kissing Nora around then too!” Blake said. The other girls gasped in surprise except Ruby, who awkwardly cleared her throat.

“Actually, I saw Nora kiss Pyrrha last week.”

“What?!” Her team yelled.

“Okay, we can figure this out. Hold on,” Ruby said. Opening her notebook, she wrote J N P R in a square. “So Yang saw Pyrrha kiss Ren, who kissed Jaune, who kissed Nora, who kissed Pyrrha.” With each statement, she drew a line connecting the pairs. Holding her notebook up to the light, she looked at it with sparkling eyes. Then she completely deflated. “Yeah, I got nothing.”

“You are still such a child. Look.” Weiss took the notebook from her, adding lines between Nora and Ren and Pyrrha and Jaune. “Nora is obviously in love with Ren, and Pyrrha has a crush on Jaune, brothers know why. They're all dating each other, see?”

“That actually makes total sense somehow.” Yang said.

“Of course it does.” Weiss handed the notebook back to Ruby.

“We should probably let them know that we know.” Blake said.

“Well as team leader, I say… one two three not it!” Touching her finger to her nose, Ruby watched Yang quickly mimic her. Blake followed suit as Weiss looked confused. “Looks like it's up to you Weiss. Good luck.”

“What?”

“Rules of the game, now hop to it.” Yang grabbed her shoulders and ushered her out the door. Right as she opened the door, Ren and Pyrrha turned the corner together.

“Hello, what are you girls up to today?” Pyrrha waved to them.

“Uh, well, I was just… Weiss needs to talk to you.” Yang shoved Weiss forward and hid behind the door with the rest of her team.

“What did you need to talk about, Weiss?” Ren asked.

“Um, you see I…” Blushing, she flailed her arms as she spoke. “I saw you kissing Jaune!”

With wide eyes, Ren and Pyrrha shared a look before turning back to her. Ren maintained a neutral expression as Pyrrha let out a strained laugh. “One of us was kissing Jaune. That was…”

“Which of us are you talking to?” Ren asked.

“You! I saw you kissing Jaune!”

“Did someone call me?” JNPR’s door opened and Jaune poked his head out.

“You’re dating your whole team!” Weiss pointed an accusatory finger at him.

“Uh oh, the blabbermouth team found out.” Behind him, Nora poked her head out the door.

“I am not a blabbermouth.” Weiss said.

“You just yelled about Ren and Jaune kissing in the middle of the hallway.”

Sighing, Jaune shook his head. “Ruby, I know the rest of you are hiding behind that door. Come out here.”

The rest of team RWBY slunk out of their room with their eyes downcast. With his arms crossed and a disapproving look on his face, Jaune reminded Ruby and Yang of their father. It was only compounded when he opened the door to JNPR’s room and said, “We need to have a talk.”

Team RWBY sat on Nora’s bed and JNPR sat across from them on Pyrrha’s. Ruby was the first to speak. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have sent Weiss out by herself to talk to you.”

“It’s fine, it wasn’t really a secret. We just didn’t know how to explain it to you.” Nora said.

“How did you guys find out anyway?” Jaune asked.

Flushing, Blake looked away. “Um, you guys kiss in public, kind of a lot.”

“Yeah, we all saw a different combination. When I mentioned seeing Ren and Pyrrha earlier it caused some… confusion.” Yang chuckled awkwardly.

“Mentioned? You sprinted back to the dorms to tell us.” Weiss said.

Leaning over to Jaune, Nora stage whispered, “Blabbermouths.”

Hiding her laugh behind her hand, Pyrrha shook her head. “We’re sorry we didn’t tell you sooner. We just weren’t sure how you would react, it is a bit… unorthodox.”

“No, no, it’s okay. We’re the ones who should be sorry.” Ruby said.

Weiss nodded, “Yes, I’m sorry for how I acted earlier, and for accusing Ren of being a cheater. If you’re all happy with your arrangement then I’m happy for you.”

“We are.” Ren said.

With a big smile, Ruby pumped her fist. “Then team RWBY supports you one hundred percent, right guys?”

“Right!” Blake and Yang agreed, but Weiss was staring into space with wide eyes.

“Oh god.” She groaned, flopping back.

“Weiss, what’s wrong?” Yang asked.

“I just realised Jaune Arc is dating three people and I’m still single.”
