Chapter Text

Guest was laying on his couch, texting on his phone while his wife Daisy was getting ready to go out with her friends for a girls night. She had put on this lovely, periwinkle dress that reached right above her ankles, along with a beautiful pair of earrings dangling from her earlobes that paired well with her brunette hair.

“Guest, I’m gonna be leaving soon, make sure you watch Charlotte and put her to bed at 8:30! I’ll be back around 9 so I’ll be back in two hours.” Daisy shouted from the bathroom before walking towards the living room.

“Alright,” Guest replied while looking down at his phone before looking up, “Woah– you look gorgeous Daisy, you’ve really outdone yourself!” Guest complimented in awe. Daisy let out a little chuckle, “Thank you honey. I’ll be leaving now, the girls are waiting outside!” Daisy told Guest as she was opening her front door.

Guest sat up before speaking, “Hey– do you mind if I invited Matt over for a bit while you’re gone?” Daisy paused right as she was about to walk to her friend's car, “Sure, just make sure you don’t get distracted from watching Charlotte. Love you honey!” Daisy answered before walking out the door and closing it.

Guest turned his head away from the closed door, back to his phone and dialed Matt’s phone number.

“Hey, Matt, do you want to come over and hang out for a bit? Daisy won’t be back until 9 or so.” Guest asked while sitting up from the couch. “ Yeah of course Guest, I’ll be over in ten! ” Matt replied from the other line. “Awesome, but my daughter will also be here, is that alright?” Guest asked with a hint of uncertainty, “ Yeah of course, just gotta be a little more careful! ” Matt let out a little chuckle before both saying bye and hanging up.

Guest chuckled from the end of the call and got up from the couch before walking down the hall to Charlotte’s room. “Hey Char-Char, Matt’s going to be coming over soon, do you want to watch a movie or have a snack?” Guest offered while leaning against Charlotte’s door frame. “Yeah! Can I have some popcorn and watch a movie?” Charlotte shot up, a look of excitement practically glowing on her face. “Yeah of course, I’ll go make it for you right now.” Guest replied with a smile on his face before walking down the hall towards their kitchen.

Charlotte followed behind her father with a wide smile on her face as she brought a blanket to her living room and sat down in front of the tv. Guest grabbed the tv remote and put on a random kids movie before walking towards the kitchen.

He grabbed a big plastic bowl, along with a small package of microwavable popcorn, and put it into the microwave as directed. After a few minutes of watching Charlotte from the kitchen, Guest heard the microwave start beeping, signaling that the time was over and that the popcorn was ready to be eaten. He took it out of the microwave, poured the popcorn into the plastic bowl, and gave it to Charlotte before hearing a knock coming from the front door.

Guest shouted “Coming!” as he walked towards the door and opened it, seeing Matt stand there before inviting him in. “Hey Matt, nice to see you again.” Guest spoke with a smile on his face as Matt walked in. “Nice seeing you too Guest, it’s been a little while since we’ve hung out like this, haha” Matt let out a little laugh as Guest also let out a little chuckle. “It sure has, hasn’t it?” Guest smiled at Matt before going to sit down onto the couch.

“Here, want to sit down, chat for a bit?” Guest asked, motioning Matt to come sit next to him on the couch. “Yeah, sure man.” Matt replied with a smile on his face as he sat next to Guest on the couch, not paying too much to what Charlotte was watching in front of them.

They chatted mindlessly, laughing at each other's jokes, having heartfelt conversations before Guest offered to go play some video games and Matt agreed to go play some games with Guest. As they both got up, Guest told Charlotte that they’d be in his room to play some games and reminded her that she can come to him if she needed something. Charlotte nodded and turned her focus back to the movie she was currently watching as Guest and Matt both walked over to Guest’s room.

Once they walked into Guest’s room, they both sat down at the end of his bed before booting up their video game console and playing against each other in random games. They were having so much fun laughing and just enjoying the other person's company. After an hour or so, they both eventually got bored of the video games and moved up onto the pillows of Guest’s and Daisy’s shared bed.

They silently layed there, staring up at the ceiling before Matt started to move. He decided to scooch closer to Guest and threw an arm over him to pull him into his warm embrace. Guest hesitated before reciprocating the same thing back over to Matt. He moved closer to Matt, enjoying the presence and warmth of being held so close by his closest friend. Both snuggled up against the other for another half hour, moving closer to each other every little while to get more comfortable

During all of that, Charlotte’s movie eventually finished and she decided to go to her bedroom. She played with some of her dolls, toys, and eventually started to draw a little picture of her family. She drew with some nice colourful crayons, she drew a light blue sky with a little sun in the corner, some green at the bottom representing grass, and she eventually started drawing her family. She drew herself holding both her parents hands with them both on either sides of her and even gave them all smiley faces, including the little sun.

She quickly grew bored from the lack of entertainment in her room. She started walking towards Guest’s room after she left her room and peeked through a tiny crack that was left between the door and the frame. She saw her dad and Matt both cuddling and holding each other on her parents bed. She stood there for a minute before scurrying back to her room once she saw Guest sit up from Matt’s embrace.

“Ah shit, I forgot to put Charlotte to bed. She was supposed to be asleep by 8:30.” Guest grumbled as he stood up. “You know, you should probably leave for the night. Daisy’s going to be back soon…” Guest suggested and sighed as he turned over to Matt. “Yeah, you’re right, I’ll be taking my leave now.” Matt said with a tired voice. “See you, Guest.” Matt told Guest as he took his leave and walked out Guest’s house.

Guest sat down on his bed before taking a big breath, sighing as he closed his eyes thinking about what he had been doing with Matt. He put some pieces together, noticing that he’s started feeling a deeper connection to Matt. Guest got up fast, shaking the thought away before walking over to Charlotte’s room.

“Hey, Charlotte. It’s time for bed now, I already let you stay up a little longer than your usual bedtime.” Guest informed Charlotte with a soft voice.

Charlotte acknowledged what her father had said and started cleaning up her room. Once she was finished picking up her toys, she got over to her bed and waited for her father to tuck her in. Guest walked over to her bed, tucked her in, and gave her a little goodnight before shutting her door.

Guest closed the door and walked over to the living room, picking up the mess Charlotte had made when she was watching the movie. Once he had finished cleaning up, he heard a soft knock from the front door. He walked over and opened it, seeing his gorgeous wife laughing with her friends as she said bye and walked inside holding a bag full of little items.

Guest chuckled, “I see you had a fun time with your friends, welcome back home.” Guest greeted as he gave his wife a hug. “Yes! We had so much fun chatting and catching up with each other!” Daisy exclaimed as she let out a giggle.

“What did you and Matt do?” Daisy asked as she put her bag down onto the dining table. “Oh– not too much. We chatted for a bit and later played some video games. It’s been a while since we’ve hung out like that.” Guest answered with a cough to clear his throat, trying to come up with something to tell Daisy. “That’s nice,” Daisy replied softly as she walked over to the kitchen to grab a drink.

“How was Charlotte?” She asked again, turning her gaze towards Guest. “She was well. She watched a movie while me and Matt were chatting, then she played in her room for a bit.” Guest answered as he went to sit down at the dining table, feeling his tiredness set in as he sat down. “I think I’m going to call it a night and go to sleep.” Guest yawned before getting up and walking to their shared bedroom. “I’ll be there in a few minutes, I’ve just gotta get changed.” Daisy replied quietly as her focus turned back to getting ready for bed.

As Guest was about to go to sleep, he took a little peek into his daughter's bedroom, seeing her peacefully sleeping while hugging a plush. He smiled before quietly closing her door and walking to his room, plopping down onto the bed once he got there. He threw the blanket over

himself before slowly drifting off, falling into a quiet slumber.

Guest woke up the next day around noon and was extremely groggy. He sat up, stretching his arm while yawning. He looked over at the digital clock sitting on the nightstand next to his bed realizing that it was already noon. Guest was still too tired to process what the actual time was before he made his way to the kitchen, seeing his daughter sitting down at the table eating some lunch.

Daisy chuckled before speaking. “Morning, or– good afternoon!” Daisy laughed. Guest let out a murmur in response as he walked over to the kitchen to see what meal his wife was making. He peered over his wife's shoulder to see her stirring some stew. He gave Daisy a quick peck on her cheek before going to sit down at their dining table.

Him and his family quietly ate the stew at their dining table, talking about little things every now and then. Once they were all finished eating, Guest had offered to do the dishes for Daisy and give her some time to relax on her own.

Guest quickly finished washing the dishes and went to lie down on the couch, taking out his phone to text Matt.

They chatted for a bit before Guest decided to invite him over again to hang out a bit longer compared to yesterday. They spoke about when Matt would come over and they both Guest said he could come over in thirty minutes.

Once that was decided, Guest got up from the couch, walked over to where Daisy was and started speaking.

Her focus moved from what she was previously doing to what Guest was about to say. “I hope you don’t mind, but Matt’s gonna come over again.” Guest said hesitantly while scratching the back of his head.

“Yeah, that’s alright! It’s always nice to have old friends around.” Daisy said happily before she continued doing what she had been previously doing. Guest smiled as he walked back over to the couch and sat down.

Guest, Daisy, and Charlotte all did their own things for a bit while Matt waited for Matt to arrive. Both Guest and Daisy had been cleaning up around the house, tidying up stuff laying around and doing the laundry. After fifteen minutes, they got a knock on their front door. Daisy was the one who walked over to the door and opened it.

“Hey Matt! It’s nice seeing you again, haha!” Daisy laughed as she welcomed him inside and closed the door behind him. “Yeah, it’s always nice visiting you guys.” Matt thanked Daisy as he took his shoes off and went to go find Guest.

“Uh– do you know where Guest is?” Matt asked as he turned his head over to where Daisy was standing. “I think he’s in the room right now, it’s just down the hall there.” Daisy replied as she pointed to the hall and started walking towards the kitchen.

“Thank you, Daisy.” Matt thanked her as he started walking over to Guest’s and Daisy’s room.

Matt peeked his head through the door and saw Guest Lying down on the bed. “Hey Guest!” Matt greeted as he walked into the bedroom, closing the door behind him once he was inside. “Oh, hey Matt.” Guest replied as he put his phone down and sat up.

They both talked for a while, moving back and forth between some activities before they went to the kitchen to see what Daisy was doing. They walked into the kitchen and saw both Daisy and Charlotte preparing dinner. The three adults joked around a bit before Guest and Matt went back to the room.

Matt and Guest sat down next to each other on the bed, subconsciously and slowly moving closer to each other. The two eventually intertwined their hands together and soon held each other in a warm embrace of two gay men . The two eventually eventually got a bit heated and started kissing.

Guest pulled back from the kiss to take a breath. “Matt– what if my wife sees-” Guest says in between breaths with a face full of guilt and exhaustion. Matt makes eye contact with Guest before saying, “Shh, your wife won’t be seeing anything. ” Matt whispers into Guest’s ear, causing a shiver to go down his spine. Matt pulled Guest closer to him and continued what they were doing before without realizing their door had been slightly open.

“Hey Charlotte, you should go wash your hands now. We’re finished the messy part.” Daisy told Charlotte as she put the pot of stew on the stove. “Okay, Mom!” Charlotte replied with a smile on her face before running toward the hallway.

She slowed down once she got to the hallway once she heard some noises coming from her parents room. She quietly walked closer to the room and took a peek into the room, seeing her dad and Matt oddly sitting close to one another. She overheard them talking and got a little closer, putting her ear on the door.

“Matt– what if my wife sees-”

“Shh, your wife won’t be seeing anything.”

Charlotte heard some shuffling and dashed toward the bathroom. She quickly washed her hands and ran back to the kitchen where her mom was. Charlotte stood in the kitchen next to her mom, confused by what she saw. She knew her parents both held each other because they loved each other, but based on what she saw going on between Matt and Guest made her ask her mom about it.

“Hey, mom?” Charlotte asked innocently as she turned to face her mom. “Yes, sweetie? What is it?” Daisy questioned  as she turned her head towards her daughter. “Why are dad and his friend holding each other really close? They sounded like they were trying to keep a secret!” Charlotte answered as her sentence slowly started turning into a whisper as she spoke.

“What?– what are you talking about? Holding each other really close?” Daisy repeated with a serious look on her face. “Yeah, Matt was holding dad REALLY close! It almost looked like they were kissing” Charlotte replied with no idea what she just said.

Daisy was flabbergasted, her husband cheating on her with his best friend?? Daisy was absolutely furious and immediately stormed toward the room they had been inside most of the evening.

Daisy busted open the door, shocked to see the two in the bed, holding each other close like Charlotte had said. She started yelling at them, her voice filled with rage and betrayal. Guest instinctively got up and tried defending himself against his wife’s rage filled accusations.

The two argued, going back and forth as their voices eventually started growing louder and louder. Their yelling eventually got the attention of Charlotte who was still in the kitchen watching the stew cook.

She started walking over to where the yelling was coming from and peeked from the hallway into the room. She stood there, staring at the scene in front of her. Her mom and dad, both fighting with each other. She started to get scared from their yelling and tears started running down her face.

Matt noticed their daughter in the hallway and tried to sneak past the two fighting adults to comfort Charlotte. “Hey, Charlotte. Let’s go somewhere else for a bit, alright?” Matt said softly as he bent down to reach her short gaze. Charlotte looked up, rubbing her eyes before replying. “Okay,” Charlotte replied as Matt took her hand and brought her into her room.

The two started playing with a few toys to take their minds away from what was currently happening across the house. Matt eventually heard some loud footsteps getting closer to the room, along with lots of yelling.

“GET OUT OF MY HOUSE MATT!” Daisy yelled at Matt, tears on the brink of falling. Guest watched the scene play out as he stood behind his angry wife with a face full of guilt.

“YOU TOO GUEST. I DON'T WANT EITHER OF YOU HERE AGAIN!” Daisy screamed out, tears now rolling down her face. Guest tried protesting against her, trying to reason with her and endlessly spitting out apologies. They once again, went back and forth before the two men were forced out of the house.

Daisy locked the door after she kicked them out and immediately started sobbing, leaning against the door and sliding down to sit. She curled up into a ball with tears rolling down her face. She felt so many emotions at once, anger, sadness, betrayal.

Charlotte peeked around the corner seeing her mom crying while curled up in a ball. Watching her mom cry hurt her too, she didn’t like seeing her parents cry, nor fight. She started crying herself and slowly walked over to her mom, giving her a hug. The two cried in each other's arms, unsure of what to do next.

Once Matt and Guest were pushed out of the house, Matt offered to drive the two of them to his home. They both got into his car, fastened their seatbelts, and started driving to Matt’s house. The car ride along the way there was awfully and awkwardly quiet with no one speaking a word. They sat in dead silence, no music, no nothing.

Matt turned into his driveway after the ten minute drive with the two both getting out of the vehicle. They walked inside Matt’s house and both sat down on the couch.

“Hey– uh, there’s some food in the fridge and stuff if you wanted?” Matt spoke, unsure of what to do. “Mhm..” Guest hummed a reply after a minute, seemingly zoning out into nothing. Matt stared for a second before speaking again.

“I can show you where the guest bedroom is if you’d like?” Matt asked nervously. Guest turned his head and nodded, not saying a word at all. He got up before Matt led the way and walked over to where the room was.

Guest sluggishly walked into the room as Matt walked out and closed the door, giving Guest some space. Guest sat down on the bed, staring at the floor for a minute, regret filling his mind as he continued staring. He took a photo out of his pocket and unfolded it.

He looked at it, remembering all the fun times he shared with his family. The more he stared, the more he got closer to crying and he did. Tears rolled down his face as he desperately tried to wipe them away but he couldn’t. His silent tears soon turned into quiet sobs. He lied down, trying to forget what had happened with sleep.

He closed his eyes and started taking deep breaths before slowly drifting off to sleep
