Chapter Text
12 P.M. on Saturday. Perfect time to wake up and watch some TV!
I got out of bed and went to the kitchen first to get some orange juice, before sitting down in front of the TV in the living room.
I started surfing the channels to see if there was anything good on… Law and Order, Seinfeld, Family Guy… I can’t believe they still broadcast this shit!
Hmm, what’s this? Danganronpa?
My friends at work rave about this show all the time, it’s practically all they talk about,,, I’m not a huge fan of reality TV (it’s all fake and scripted anyway) so I’ve stayed away for now.
But something possessed me to stay on the channel and see what it was all about. It just seemed to be a trailer of the upcoming season though… If it seems good, maybe I’ll watch it.
A dark-skinned man in a navy blue suit stood on a grassy field with multiple buildings in the background, holding a microphone. He smiled and waved at the camera before starting to speak.
“Welcome back viewers! And for you new fans, my name’s Jackson Caine,” the man smirked, “And I am extremely excited to present to you this sneak peak of yet another season of Danganronpa: The Reality Show!”
The man stepped into a helicopter which started to ascend. He continued his narration from inside the aircraft.
“For our tenth anniversary season, we’re bringing some new, fresh ideas to the series,” he said into his microphone.
“You might have noticed that I am not standing inside of a school or university building currently,” he shouted over the sound of the helicopter.
“Down there, you can see the artificial city that the designers and architects at Team Danganronpa created as a setting for our participants!” He said, pointing at the buildings.
“We’re hoping that the new environment can make for a more interesting experience… For both the contestants, and viewers alike,” Jackson said, as the helicopter landed on a street in front of a tall building.
“Right here are our apartments… one of them, at least,” Jackson said, “I won’t show you all the inside just yet, they’re still being set up. We here at the studio felt that apartment style living would be better than the dorm style that existed in the previous nine seasons.”
“Each contestant will have their own bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchen… at first anyway,” he said as he walked along the sidewalk, “They’ll get food to cook their own meals with the stuff they can buy from the supermarket next door.”
He pointed at the next building, which he was now in front of.
“For those that don’t want to cook for themselves, there’s a diner right next to it. And in the distance over there…” he pointed away from the restaurant, “Is the park where my chopper departed from.”
“As always, the show will take place over the traditional format of Daily Life, Deadly Life, and the Trial which is the dramatic conclusion of each part… or the entire show, depending on its outcome,” he explained.
“Now, you may have noticed me dropping some hints here and there, and that’s for a good reason,” Jackson said as he winked to the cameras, “That’s because the fate of the contestants are in your hands!”
He quickly changed angles and looked into another camera, “That’s right, you there! Watching from the comfort of your couch!”
“Download the Danganronpa: The Reality Show app right now to get to know the contestants a bit more before you get to vote for them,” a QR code appeared on screen, “What exactly you get to vote for is still a secret, but attentive viewers can already take a guess!”
“Now, before we end this sneak peek… let’s show you what our contestants have to say about this season!”
The screen flashed to a shot of an empty room, save for a blond boy wearing a bright tie-dye shirt and shorts sitting on a folding chair and looking at the camera.
“This season’s gonna be awesome!”
The camera cut to the same room, but this time with another blond boy wearing a suit jacket and sweatpants.
“That million dollar prize is as good as mine.”
Now a boy wearing flannel was on the screen.
“With my smarts, no murderers will be getting away on my watch!”
Now a girl wearing a lab coat and goggles was on the screen.
“They won’t even know what hit them.”
It then flashed some audition tapes of the contestants performing all sorts of skills.
“Don’t forget to download the Danganronpa: The Reality Show app!” Jackson said, appearing on the screen one final time, “Register now and get a free extra vote!”
Some static started to flash on the screen, partially obscuring Jackson.
“And remember… only one leaves,” he grinned.
The sneak peek was over, and… honestly? It looked cooler than I was expecting. Maybe I’ll give it a shot…
Just one episode.
