The Line We Are Walking

Summary:

Hans doesn’t remember when it started hurting—only that it never stopped. After a night that changed everything, he survives by pretending: that he’s fine, that he doesn’t need help, that he doesn’t want anyone close.

But then he meets Dr. Henry. Quiet. Gentle. Impossible to read.
And for the first time, Hans lets someone see past the act.

Therapy was supposed to be safe. Boundaried. Contained.
But when the lines between comfort and care start to blur, both men are forced to confront what they’re holding, what they’re hiding, and what they might risk if they name the thing between them.

Chapter 1: Content Warning / Author’s Note:

Chapter Text

This story contains explicit depictions of trauma and mental health challenges, including but not limited to:

Sexual assault (central to the character’s psychological arc)

PTSD symptoms, including panic attacks, hypervigilance, nightmares, and dissociation

Anxiety disorders

Therapy and the evolving complexities of a therapeutic relationship

Blurred professional/personal boundaries

Emotional vulnerability, loneliness, and recovery after abuse

While the narrative handles these elements with care, realism, and a trauma-informed lens, readers should proceed with awareness and caution. This is a slow-burn, character-driven exploration of healing, consent, and emotional interdependence, including therapeutic dynamics that may evolve into ethically ambiguous territory.

The story takes great care to portray the former therapist/patient relationship with maturity, respect, and emotional safety, emphasizing continuous dialogue, boundaries, and self-reflection. Henry and Hans’s connection is built on mutual understanding, not imbalance, and the narrative never rushes physical or emotional intimacy.

Memories and emotional aftereffects of assault are explored in depth. The story emphasizes supportive, patient-centered care, gradual reclaiming of bodily autonomy, and rebuilding trust—both with oneself and with others.

If you are currently in a vulnerable state or navigating similar themes in your own life, please prioritize your emotional safety. Skip chapters when needed. Pause when you must. This story is here to hold space, not to harm.
