Chapter Text
1.
The first time it happens, Red couldn’t even move.
She had just woken up, world slipping in and out of focus as she tries not to run into any doors or stub her toes on any sort of solid surface. It was far too early for that sort of pain and she really wanted to keep up this peaceful atmosphere brewing in her sleepy head.
“Good morning, Red!”
Chloe always sounded like the personification of sunshines and rainbows, sure, but today she sounded much more excited than the usual. Red probably would have noticed the edge of mischief to her voice if she was a little more awake which might have prepared her for what she would see next.
“Good morning, princess.”
Red turns around to see Chloe already getting ready for the day. She still doesn’t know why Chloe would willingly choose a club that held meetings on Saturday, but Chloe Charming was the kind of person to willingly do extracurriculars on a day where you’re supposed to rest.
Then she notices something…odd.
A piece of clothing that complimented her baby blue hair perfectly.
For a moment, Red’s eyebrows furrow. Since when did Chloe own a red sweater? Everything in her closet was always so blindingly blue. Considering how many times Red has grimaced at the sight of Chloe’s closet when the girl gets ready in the morning, she surely would’ve noticed a bright red sweater.
Then, it clicks in her mind. Suddenly, her peaceful atmosphere is completely ruined.
“That’s my sweater.” Red remarks dumbly.
Chloe’s eyes widen as she looks down at the sweater she was wearing.
Red didn’t notice the smile Chloe was failing to hold back at the time. All she could focus on was how the sweater sleeves extended past the bluehead’s hands, how her eyes slowly opened and closed due to tiredness, and just how good Chloe looked in things that were hers.
“Oh, you’re right.” Chloe says shortly, but makes no other move, “I didn’t notice.”
Red doesn’t even question how Chloe didn’t notice that she put on an absurdly bright red sweater that morning, no matter how tired she was. She doesn’t even question the fact that Chloe was a morning person and wouldn’t have ever made such a mistake.
Red can’t seem to say anything else after that.
The image of Chloe in her sweater has burned itself in her brain.
In fact, seeing Chloe in her sweater may have burned her brain entirely considering that she’s forgotten how to even speak.
“That’s my sweater.”
“Yes, Red, this is your sweater.” Chloe giggles, feeling as if she was talking to a preschooler. She gives a little twirl, and Red swears she bats her eyelashes a little bit. Or maybe Chloe just is that pretty to her. “It’s cute, isn’t it?” Red doesn’t respond, her mouth wide open and yet no sound came out of it whatsoever.
Chloe pouts when no response comes, heaving a sigh. “Do you not think it looks cute on me?” Red still can’t respond. Chloe’s pout only deepens, but Red can only keep looking at the sweater. Eventually, Chloe relents with a sigh.
”…well, I need to go to Swords and Shields now. I promise to come back so we can eat lunch together, okay?”
For some reason, Red’s mind could only focus on one thing.
“You’re going to Swords and Shields in my sweater?”
Chloe seems to grow happy again, responding with a giggle.
“How many times do you have to point out it’s your sweater?” At the realization, Red feels slightly embarrassed. It wasn’t the fact that Chloe was wearing a bright red sweater — as weird as it was, it didn’t matter at all to Red — but the fact that said bright red sweater was hers.
“But yes, I am.”
That’s when Chloe Charming uses a weapon greater than any sword she’s ever held: puppy dog eyes accompanied by a sad frown — and nobody ever wanted to make Chloe Charming upset.
“You don’t mind…do you, Red?”
This girl is going to be the death of her.
“No.” Red responds, her voice clipped and far too high-pitched. It felt like her throat had abandoned her entirely, all the air having escaped her lungs. The sight of Chloe looking so pretty in her clothes had woken her up entirely, giving her enough energy to stay up for what felt like a week straight.
The fact that other people were going to see Chloe in her sweater too?
“No, it’s fine.”
Chloe stares at her for a few seconds, most likely confused by how Red was acting. Hell, even Red was confused with whatever she was doing, but then Chloe’s bright smile comes back and Red is knocked off her feet once more.
“Alright, I’ll get going now. See you later!”
The door closes shut and Red is left alone with her thoughts.
More specifically: thoughts of a specific bluehead wearing her sweater.
After a loud groan, she heaves a sigh. Hopefully, Chloe didn’t notice how little she had been talking. Except, of course, she most definitely did. Chloe who knew Red more than anybody else. Red groans, letting her forehead fall ungraciously onto the dresser, the sound echoing throughout the room.
The sting felt a lot less embarrassing compared to realizing how much of an idiot she had been acting like. Seriously, Chloe wears her sweater once and she couldn’t even speak?
How dumb. Red would be lucky if Chloe didn’t find it weird.
Her mind, clearly not caring about Red’s sanity, supplies her with one more thought as a flash of Chloe wearing her sweater appears once more:
Red clearly goes well with blue.
A loud thud echoed throughout their room. If Chloe asks about the giant red circle on Red’s forehead, Red will just have to shrug her off.
