Chapter 1: Grian was having a good day

Chapter Text

Grian had a good day, a wonderful day even, that was the first sign that something was wrong. Normally it would be another prank from Scar, or someone else from Boatem. But no, no Grian wished that that was the case. Because here he was with Mumbo, staring at something. It looked like a tear in the world's fabric and code, it was pulsing with a strange sort of magic no one could explain.

“Does anyone have any idea what this is?” Mumbo's voice cut through the silence, sounding really confused and a bit scared? Grain couldn't hear it too well, he decided to state the obvious “Well it looks like a tear in the world's code, don't know how it got here tough”

It was silent again, as everyone was thinking. Suddenly Scars voice cut through the silence. Both Mumbo and Grian turned around and saw Scar walking to them. “Hey guys! "Oh, what's that?”

Scar proceeded to walk closer to the tear, and it started pulsing a bright blue, almost like the vex’s magic. Both Mumbo and Grian started to worry as Scar had the tendency to get himself in trouble.

“Scar, don't touch it!” Grian sounded a bit panicked, he didn't know what that thing leads to and he doesn't want to find out. Scar looked away from the weird phenomenon, but Grian could see that it was drawing him in. “Why?”

Mumbo sighed, shaking his head like a disappointed parent. “Because it's dangerous, we should let X look at this”

Grian nodded, but before he could say anything Scar was walking towards the tear in the world. Suddenly his eyes widened and he tried saying something, but Grian couldn’t hear him. He tried to grab him before it was too late, but his time was up. Scar was pulled through the tear, it shined bright blue for a second before going back to be colorless.

"Mumbo?!" Scar is gone!” Grian was panicking, where was Scar? Why did Scar even touch that? But most importantly Was He Even Alive?! His thoughts were racing, the thought of Scar, his best friend, dying? He could panic over that. He started grabbing his wings, how could he live without his mate?

“Grian, you need to breath buddy” Mumbo's voice cut through his thoughts, breathing yes that is indeed important. He drew in a shaky breath, but immediately let out a sob. He felt a pair of arms wrap around him, Mumbo's. And he leaned into the touch, wrapping his wings around mumbo and himself.

“It's going to be okay Gri” Mumbo pulled back a bit, smiling softly. Grian looked at him, desperate to get his mate to safety. “You want to go through it too, am I right?”

Grian nodded, and Mumbo let him go. He walked closer to the weird tear, not noticing that Mumbo was right behind him. When he got within 4 blocks, the tear started glowing violet, Grian was mesmerised by the sight. We stepped closer again and felt a soft pull that got stronger the closer he got, and the moment he got within 2 blocks, he was pulled through the tear. He felt his code being pulled on and as a last-ditch effort to save himself, he let his watcher features become more prominent. Suddenly he collided with a hard surface, and he heard shocked screams before he blacked out.

“Roll to see if you find anything in this house”

Morrigain smiled, the campaign had been going on for a long time now, and they finally found a big lead to solve who had murdered the king. They grabbed a D20 and rolled, they looked and had a nat20. “I have a nat20!”

The rest of the party erupted in cheers, now they hoped that there was something important in the cabin. The DM quickly calmed everyone down and continued the story. “So everyone higher than a 15 sees that there are locks in weird places all around the cabin, and the people that rolled higher than a 19 sees that some floorboards are loose”

Directly after the DM stopped talking, multiple people began throwing suggestions. Morrigain was heard first “I’m going to pry open the floorboards to see what is under it” The DM nodded, “Okay make a roll for strength” They rolled and it was a nat 14, “With the modifier I get a 13”. The party was silent for a bit, and the DM replied “You are barely able to pry open the floorboards and see a lock.

“I'm going to pick it!” Juno said directly, already holding the dice. The DM nodded, “Okay, roll to see if you're able too”. Juno rolled and it was a nat20, everyone cheered.

“The lock springs open, inside you see a few gold coins and a piece of paper.” Morrigain was quick to speak up “I'm grabbing the paper” After they said that, the DM gave them a piece of paper with some gibberish on it.

They did what almost every dnd player would do in this situation, and started reading it out loud. “lachrymam canalibus mundos placere aperire”

“You see a door on the other side of the ro-” He was interrupted by the air splitting apart, there was no other way of explaining it. The air was simmering like it would do when it was heated, but it wasn't moving in any way. After a few seconds of silence everyone was talking, trying to stay calm, but failing. Some people that were frozen in their seats a few seconds ago, jumped up and ran out of the warehouse.

Morrigain was mesmerized by the sight, finding themself calmed by the sight of the weird thing. Not really sure of what was happening, but kept staring at it. They snapped out of it when suddenly the thing became blue, blinking and staring in confusion at it. The room was mostly empty now, everybody had run away except for Juno.

“What the fuck?” Juno’s voice cut through the silence, they turned to look at them. “Mor, do you have any idea why this thing is here?”. They shook their heads “I wish-” A loud crash interrupted them, and they spun around quickly “-I knew”.

A creature was laying on the ground, as they walked closer they heard footsteps. Relaxing a bit knowing that they weren’t alone in this mess, Juno was here too. Morrigain knelt besides the thing, it had 2 bat like wings, horns, and grey skin. They poked it in its side, it didn’t react so luckly it was knocked out.

“This isn’t a human” Juno was standing on the other side of the thing, staring in fascination and a bit of fear. And before they could reply the portal became a vibrant violet, and as they looked at each other something else was spit out by the weird thing.

A man stumbled out of it, but at a second glance they could see the 4 violet with black wings on his back, and the purple light in his eyes. He looked around and stared directly at Morrigan, their gaze boring into their soul. And he passed out, fell right on top of the other creature. Juno let out a shocked laugh, and Morrigain joined her quickly but neither of them noticed the thing becoming bright red.

Another guy, that fell right on top of both of the other 2, came out of the weird thing. They stared at him, not knowing what to think about it anymore. Suddenly Juno’s phone let out a ringing sound, her alarm to go home.

“Well, I gotta go.” She stared at the pile of unconscious creatures, with a human on top. “I’m not going to tell anyone, but we won’t be playing dnd here for a while.” Morrigain nodded, “Yea, I’m just gonna” They motioned at the pile of bodies, “See you later Mor”. Juno started walking away, heading home. “See you later Juno”

When Juno left Morrigain realised what they had done, they had said something and this thing appeared. Talking about the weird air thing, it was gone, just vanished. Well that is going to be a crisis for another day. Now what to do with the 3 men? People? on top of each other and on their floor. They sighed and decided that they would put them in the guest room.

They picked up the first one under the shoulders, he was tall so his feet were dragging on the ground, but they couldn't find the will to care about that. They managed to drag him up the stairs and into the bedroom, as they propped the guy up on the bed and sighed. This was going to be a long process, and this one didn’t even have wings!

As they walked downstairs again, Morrigain knew that they were lucky that they lived in an abandoned warehouse at the edge of the city. And even luckier that everyone had decided that this was the perfect place to play DnD, they wouldn’t know what they would have done if this happened somewhere else.

Finally after almost 30 minutes of struggling, they managed to get the last creature/person in the bed. Well they put the human on the floor, because they didn’t have weird limbs and could kinda comfortably lay there. It was difficult at first to deal with the wings on 2 of their backs, but when they figured it out, it was fairly easy. Now hoping that the feathered one doesn’t mind that their feathers are all in the wrong place.
