Chapter 1: Billards

Chapter Text

It began on a simple day like any other.

Goro Akechi, the famous detective prince, had decided on finally meeting up with an average highschool student named Akira Kurusu.

Well, Goro wouldn’t exactly describe Akira as average per se. To him, Akira was someone who from their first meeting at the TV station had already picked Goro’s interest. He seemed.. different from most people, someone you could discuss anything with, no matter the subject.

When Goro saw Akira coming over to him from the other side of the road he noticed the other man was holding something in his hands.

They were flowers, forget-me-not’s to be precise. Their intense blue shade contrasted Akira’s pale, gaunt palm as he handed them to Goro.

“I felt like giving you something.” The slightly shorter man stated when Goro looked at him with a perplexed expression on his face.

Giving someone flowers on your first planned meeting seemed pretty unusual to him but then again, Akira seemed unusual too.

“I should buy a vase for them when I’ll be going back to my apartment later, I wouldn't want them to go to waste.” Goro smiled. It wasn’t genuine, of course, but he’d rather be dead than get caught snapping at a pedestrian for getting him a foolish gift.

They went to play billiards together.

Akira was surprisingly good at the game. Too good for someone who admitted to only playing it a couple of times.

“Kurusu, are you sure you don’t have any experience in this field?” Goro asked him.

“I only played it a couple of times in the past with a close friend of mine.” He leaned on one of the tables next to him. “Why? Are you scared of losing?” He smiled.

And if Goro wasn’t so talented in not letting his emotions get the best of him he would’ve punched this absolute jokester of a man right in the guts. Instead he chuckled and prepared to take the next shot, this time while using his left hand.

“Finally using your dominant hand Akechi?” Akira stated. It caught the other man off guard. Was he that observant to notice?

“Ah, I suppose you’ve already noticed it before. That’s right, my dominant hand is my left one although I’m proficient in both. I wonder what gave it away?”

The raven simply responded “When we first met you shook my hand with your left palm.”

Goro recalled their first meeting at the TV station. Akira’’s school, the Shujin High School had visited it during an excursion and coincidentally it was the same day during which Goro had an interview. During said interview, the topic of Phantom Thieves came up, it was easy to predict since the group of vigilantes was a hot topic at the time. Goro asked someone from the public to voice their point of view on the matter, that person was Akira Kurusu.

Akira Kurusu who without a second of doubt voiced his opinion. And he made it loud and clear he disagreed with The Detective Prince. But hey, a thesis needs an antithesis doesn’t it? That day he asked Akira for his phone number in hopes of sharing a few more interesting discussions with him and that’s how he got here.

“You’re right.” Goro stepped over to Akira “I must say I’m surprised you noticed such a minuscule detail about my behaviour.”

Akira smiled confidently. “I have been told I’m a very perceptive person.” He replied as he stood up from the billards table, tracing it’s edge with his index finger. The table was spotless and reflected everything around it. He seemed to be looking at something in the reflection.

When Goro watched Akira he couldn’t help but admit how pretty the other man was. Raven-black hair, almost concerningly pale skin, those dark gray-almost black eyes that could pierce any obstacle if they only wished to do so and oh, such long eyelashes..

Obviously it was akin to looking at a painting in the museum, nothing more. Goro was allowed to admire another person’s beauty.

Unfortunately being distracted often leads to a person’s demise and he almost missed his turn.

For the rest of the match Goro avoided looking at Akira.

They tied.

This Evening was rather eventful if he could say so himself. Not often does he meet a person worthy of his attention but Akira seemed like quite the fascinating individual.

Goro always threw away all flowers he received, after all, they were from his so called “fans” who were in love with the idea of Goro Akechi “The Detective Prince”. And yet for some unknown reason, he couldn’t bring himself to throw away the forget me not’s he had received from Akira.

Instead, he bought a flower vase on his way back home.
