Chapter Text
Fermín was longing for his bed. The day already felt too long, too rough and too tiring but he knew he wouldn’t get his bed until many hours later and the thought soured his mood even more.
He was in a bloody room trying to agree with his stupid clasmates on a group project they were way too far behind on just because one fucking ass culdn’t do his job as he was suposed too. Fermín was annoyed, Pablo Gavira was everything he loaded in one sickeningly beautiful person, he was fun, attractive, likeable and he seemed to be born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He acted like nothing was wrong in the world ever and for that Fermín loathed him. But he also loved him, he was his best friend after all and Fermín knew that the boy had his own struggles, that he wasn’t as carefree as he let out but his charm still annoyed him to bits from time to time.
He was relieved when the time was up and he had to leave. “Are you leaving?” Gavi asked, his big brown eyes shining in surprise.
Fermín looked at the other and nodded “Yeah, I need to go to my job” He watched as the brunettes mouth opened and closed, his big eyes looking at him with an unreadable look “but-but the work”
Fermín laughed in humour, shaking his head as he shrugged his jacket on “I have done my part, you fix yours yourself” he muttered with a sarcastic smile, Gavi glared at him but gave in rather soon with one of his winning smiles “Fine, I will get it done, see you tonight?” he asked as he stood up and followed Fermín out the door. “No, not tonight Gav, I told you I have this new child to sit for tonight and it is late but if you need you can crash”
Gavi nodded in recognition “Right, the new child in the nice neighborhood. See you tomorrow then” he smiled and kissed his cheek before strutting off with a smile on his face. Fermín yelled a bye after him before he hurried from the building. He couldn’t be late today, it was the first day with a new child and it was very important to make a good first impression.
Babysitting had been the obvious choice when he realized he needed another job, it was good work hours and good enough salary. But it was also kinda straining, late nights, much activity and a lot of social interactions but he liked it enough and as said, it paid the bills so he wouldn't complain.
He walked as fast as possible through the thick rain that coated the streets, the air hot despite the cold droplets of water. The family lived in a ridiculously high end area, Fermín had never been there before, he lived nowhere near close to such areas. He scoffed to himself, if he ever lived in something half as fancy as this he would call himself blessed.
The house turned out to be just as fancy as the neighbourhood, big and modern with a big lawn and fucking gates. It was like a mansion Fermín muttered to himself as he called on the door phone, not even saying a word as the door swung open.
He didn’t even have to knock before the door opened, Fermín expected to be met with a parent or another worker in the house but instead he stood face to face with a little girl in a pink ballerina dress. Fermín was slightly taken aback but quickly swallowed his confusion as the little girl looked up at him with her big brown eyes. She was absolutely adorable, brown dark hair in two pigtails, small and chubby, she couldn’t be older than four. He hadn’t gotten much information from the agency he nannied through, just a form where he had to fill in his name and bank information. Not even working hours had been clear and maybe it had been stupid to sign such a vague contract but damn the money was so good that Fermín hadn't actually thought too much about it.
And now here he was, looking at the small child who looked at him like he was an alien “Hello” he smiled as kindly as he could and the little girl slowly started to giggle “Hello my name is Ella” she smiled proudly and Fermín smiled widely at her, this was why he loved this job, small cute children.
“My name is Fermín” he grinned and stepped into the house, watching as she pushed the door closed and then skipped in front of him “Are you my babysitter?” she had a hopeful look on her face and Fermín nodded “yeah, I am. Is your parents home?” The little girl nodded excitedly and started to leap into the living room and Fermín sighed, why was nobody here telling him what to do. He followed the girl and padded through the long big corridor until it opened into a huge living room with a connected kitchen.
“Daddy!”
Fermín took a breath, he always dreaded meeting the kids parents, it was the reason the job could be hard especially in areas like these. That’s where the parents often had a lot of different ideas and rules and things were usually strict and it could be hard to follow strict directions. He tried to straighten up, look mature and confident as the dad approached.
“H-ello” the hello got stuck in the man’s throat as he hurried around the corner to the kitchen, a pile of papers in his hands and a pristine suit on. Fermín had to suppress a scoff. It wouldn’t surprise him if an owner of a house like this wore his nicest suit as a pyama. “Hello, Mr Torres?” Fermín asked, trying to keep his composure as the man stepped closer. He was younger than he had thought he would be, with obvious money like this. Large frame, a strong built and sharp facial features. He looked so elegant and perfect that Fermín felt ridiculously childish and ugly in his baggy jeans and large hoodie. He had an aura around him, an aura that exceeded power and class, he made people like Fermín feel worthless.
“You are the nanny?” he asked in disbelief and there was no attempt to hide the judgement in his tone. “Yeah, Fermín López” he answered as politely as he could, he already disliked this guy. His look was dirty as he stared him up and down “Are you gay?”
Fermín almost choked, blinking stupidly “Excuse me?” he asked in disbelief staring at the man who stared right back, his eyes dark and boring inte his soul “Are you gay? I mean you work as a nanny”
Fermín shook his head and couldn’t hold back the scoff, he had never experienced anything like this before and the look, the stance, the mood of the room made him swallow hard and shake his head. “No sir, I am not”
Mr Torres studied him with judgemental eyes like he didn’t believe him and Fermín felt uneasy under the stare, he seemed almost dangerous. “Alright I am gonna be out until 10”
“Yes sir” he nodded, he had not expected anything else. “Bye Ella darling” the man hollered, picking up the girl and peppering her giggly face with kisses, it was like a different man than the one that had just looked at him like he was dirt under his shoe and Fermín frowned.
“Wait” Fermín called when the man started to walk away “Do you have any rules? Anything I should know about her? Times?” He was confused, usually this was all carefully written down and needed to be followed closely, just being left with a child had never happened to him before. “No? Just entertain her and keep her happy, feed her when she is hungry and take her to bed when she is tired” he waved off and Fermín was left stunned.

“You are late” Pedri pointed out as Ferran entered the office. They had a late conference and before that he and Pedri had decided to exchange their findings on their case and Ferran was late so it was no wonder Pedri was already there, the man was always spot on, the freak.
“I had a new nanny for Ella” he grimaced “Ah” Pedri smiled, “Isn’t that a good thing? Wasn’t the other a bit… in love with you”
Ferran scoffed arrogantly and shrugged off his coat “Yeah, it’s nice that she is gone but she was fine with Ella” “And this new one?” Pedri asked, his regular smug little smile covering his face “Does she seem in love with you too?”
Ferran frowned “No, he didn’t seem like it”
“He?” Pedri asked intrigued “I didn’t know he was a he”
“Me neither but apparently I would have if I had opened his profile” He could hear his friend scoff “Can’t believe you just leave your child with random strangers without even looking them up” “I know they are safe, the agency would never dare to risk that, they know what would happen if something ever happened to my daughter” his voice was dangerous and Pedri hummed in agreement, Ferran could be very scary and clear after all “Well true, so he wasn’t in love?”
“He isn’t gay”
Pedri let out an unexpected laugh, leaning back in his chair “you asked him?” “Of course” Ferran frowned “Oh fuck off man, you don’t just ask someone if they are gay like that and especially not with the face expression I knew you had on, he probably didn’t dare say anything else as you for sure looked and sounded like a homphobic asshole”
Ferran’s brows scrunched together “Homophobic? I’m gay if you remember” he stated but Pedri just continued to laugh “Yeah I know but you don’t seem gay, you are not fitting the stereotypes and you for sure didn’t let the boy think that”
Ferran shrugged “I don’t care as long as he is good with Ella” he muttered with finality in his voice making sure Pedri knew that he was supposed to shut up.

The evening with Ella turned out to be easier and more pleasant than Fermín could have expected. The little girl was bubbly and positive, jumping on every idea that he suggested, she was easy to please and entertain. And, since her father hadn’t said any no’s he had not put any restraints so for the last hour they had been watching some stupidly ridiculous kid show but Fermín was happy to just be able to sit down and relax.
When the little girl was full and tired she went right to bed, Fermín had never met a child so eager to do what you asked and bedtime usually was one of the more challenging times during his sitting but Ella was very different.
When Mr Torres came back at ten Fermín was watching tv in the living room. Ella fast asleep in her room and Fermín had cleaned up what they had messed up.
He was ready to leave the second he heard the lock turn, eager to get home and into his own bed. Mr Torres didn’t keep him around, just nodded at him and left Fermín perplexed as he went to check on his daughter “uh I’m leaving” he stated and the man just nodded
Fermín wasn't sure what this was but he didn’t have enough energy left to care so he shrugged his shoulders and started the walk home.

”So how was the evening? Did you go head to head with their high end parents?” Gavi grinned at him as he sat down at the table with a sigh on his lips. Fermin chuckled and shook his head “he was rather weird, the father I mean, it was the only parent there but the girl, the one I’m babysitting was a dream” “why was he weird?”
Fermin grimaced “he went to work at 6, he wore a really high end suit, he was very rude and judgemental because I was a male nanny and he didn’t have any rules or guidelines for me to follow”
“Isn’t that nice?” Gavi asked confused “it can be but it’s also hard because I don’t know what he expects from me” Fermín shrugged
“Maybe he is a mafia boss or something” Gavi grinned, his big eyes shining bright in excitement, Fermín scoffed and rolled his eyes “Please Gav”
Gavi rolled his eyes right back and chuckled “What, that could’ve been a lot of fun” he complained “Anyway” Fermín cut him off “He didn’t meet me before hiring me for the whole night, didn’t ask for any information and I’m sure he didn’t even read through the minimal form of information on the agency site because if he did he would’ve know I was a guy, it’s just weird”
“It’s because he is a mafia boss Fer! He doesn't have to know anything because the agency knows him and knows he would kill them if they didn’t give him a good one!” Gavie exclaimed, ignoring Fermín’s judging glare as he let his face fall down on the smooth surface of the table.
“What?! It’s making sense!” Gavi argued “He is not a fucking mafia boss Gavi” he deadpaned, shaking his head at the others pout and folded arms, looking like a petulant child. “Just don’t get mad when I tell you I told you so” he pouted and Fermín swallowed his words “Fine” he bit out before slapping up his school books on the table.
