Work Text:
Paige and Daniel were playing around with foam swords in the Floor of Language. Despite being a few years younger, Paige easily dominated Daniel in their duel. Watching her mother and father spar made her want to train to be just like them. So she adapted some of their techniques (as best as she could, anyway) and began training her body and mind. Daniel, on the other hand, didn't care for any of that. He just wanted someone to play with.
Paige decided it was time to bust out her newest technique. One heavily based on her father's.
“Yield My Strength!” Paige yelled out. Daniel took it as an opportunity to get a hit in, however, he didn't know that this was exactly what she wanted.
“To Claim Their Souls!” She spun around and hit Daniel right on the noggin with her sword. He stumbled before falling on the floor.
Only a few seconds passed before a sniffle could be heard. And only a few seconds after that did the young boy start to shed tears.
‘M-MAMAAA! PAPAAAA!!!” The kid started to bawl hard. Paige immediately felt bad. She never wanted to hurt him! She just wanted to try out her new technique.
“D-don't cry, Danny! I-I'm sorry!” Paige herself felt like she was about to cry. Like her mother and father, she wanted to be a protector. So seeing her family in pain made her incredibly worried and anxious.
Soon both Gebura and Kim burst out of their room to see what was going on.
“DANIEL! PAIGE! IS EVERYTHING OK?” Gebura's voice rang loudly as she approached the scene.
“I-I hurt Danny! W-we were playing with o-our swords, a-and I used m-my new technique and it-it hit Danny on the head! A-and he fell over and-”
Gebura sighed both in annoyance and relief. She looked to Kim to comfort Paige which he immediately understood. She walked over to Daniel to take a look at his injury.
Kim stepped forward to scoop up his crying child. He then walked over to the couch and sat down with his daughter in his lap.
“D-daddy?” Paige began as she continued to sniffle. “A-am I bad?”
“No, you're not bad… It was an accident as far as I'm aware.”
“B-but I hit him with my sword on p-purpose…” Paige looked down, feeling as if she let her whole family down.
“...I wasn't perfect with my sword either.” Kim started. “I was really quite bad at it. Couldn't hit a single thing for the life of me.
Paige listened as her father told her about his experience with a sword at her age. “B-but how did you g-get so good, daddy?”
Kim simply smiled at her. “Practice, every day I practiced. Until I got good enough to start protecting those I cared about.” Kim rubbed his daughter's dark red hair. “And your mother was the same, I'm sure she's told you her story plenty of times. So you understand that it takes practice to perfect your craft.”
“o-ok, but daddy? C-can I practice with you?” Paige's crying died down as she looked at her father's eyes with fierce determination. The same that Gebura had.
“Of course. How about we practice tomorrow?” Kim patted his daughter's back.
“Yeah! Thanks daddy! I love you!”
Kim couldn't help but shed a tear. His daughter was too precious sometimes. “I love you too, Paige.”
Gebura walked over, with a now calm Daniel in her arms, and sat down next to Kim. She lifted his hat for a second to sneak a kiss on his cheek.
“Thanks, Kim, I don't know what I'd do without you.”
“It's my pleasure.”
“Paige? You have something to say to Daniel?”
Paige looked at the boy, his tears were dried up but he looked a bit scared of Paige.
“I-I'm sorry Danny… I shouldn't have tried that move on you. Will you forgive me?”
Daniel's weary expression turned into a bright smile. “Of course Paigey!”
The cousins leaped out of their adult arm prison and hugged each other. The scene was so adorable that Gebura swore she had cavities in her teeth now.
The wonderful scene was broken when the door slammed open. It revealed Binah, whose expression was one of concern (well a normal person wouldn't be able to tell.)
“My child! Are you ok?” Binah must've been able to hear Daniel's scream. Or she just has super mother senses. She walked over to the two children.
“I'm ok mama! Just a little ouchie!” Daniel pointed to his forehead. Binah sighed in relief before grabbing Daniel by the cheeks and inspecting him.
“It seems all is well…” Binah let go of his face and kissed his forehead. “Very well, Mama has to return to work. She's working very hard on a special project.” Said special project was a surprise birthday party for Daniel.
“Ok, mama! I love you!” Daniel smiled brightly at his mother.
“I love you too, dear.” Binah then left. Both Gebura and Kim let out a sigh of relief. They were not ready for an angry Binah, especially an angry Binah who was upset over her kids. No amount of strength the two possessed would stop her.
Paige and Daniel started playing again. This time it was a friendly game of Chutes & Ladders. Gebura slumped back on her couch with Kim sitting beside her. She leaned her head on his shoulder.
“For normally being a stiff guy, you're quite the comfy pillow.”
“Well, it's because I can let my guard down when I'm with you, my beloved.”
Gebura blushed, she still had no idea how to handle pet names. Especially from her husband… that also still felt weird to her. Referring to Kim as her husband. They've been married for 5 years yet she still can't wrap her head around it.
“...Kim? You know I love you, right?” Gebura turned her head to face him. “Even if I don't show it or say it much… you do know that I adore you?” Gebura was usually never a self-conscious person. But with Kim it was different. She wanted him to be happy with the brutish, strong, and no-nonsense muscle girl she was.
“...what a silly question, of course I love you. And she-” he lifted his finger to point at Paige, who was upset because she hit a chute and had to move down the board. “-is my proof of that.”
Gebura smiled, she grabbed him and gave him a deep kiss, which got her an “ewwww!” from the kids before they went back to playing. “Thanks, Kim… or should I call you Kimmy from now on?~” Gebura always found that making her husband flustered was always a fun activity.
“...maybe,” Kim whispered. Gebura just cackled.
“Alright Kimmy, wanna lay down together and watch the kids? Gotta make sure they don't hurt themselves with Chutes & Ladders somehow.”
“I'd love nothing more.” Kim and Gebura found a comfortable position on the couch to snuggle.
Soon after, Paige and Daniel joined them on the couch. Tired after playing for so long. The next time Binah came back to pick up Daniel. She gently grabbed the sleeping boy and began to walk away. But she took a second to look back. She couldn't help but smile at her sister. Proud of her for starting a family of her own.
“My dear sister, it is wonderful that you've finally made a family after so long. You've earned this happiness.” Binah talked to herself for a bit before she left with Daniel.
Gebura smiled to herself, not having been asleep and hearing every word Binah spoke before she left.
She did deserve this happiness. They all did.
