Chapter Text
Dear Princess Celestia,
I’m writing you this letter to ask about something I found rather curious today. I know I don’t have a need to write you letters anymore, considering you’ve retired, (How is Silver Shoals? And please give Princess Luna my regards) but I feel it necessary considering the circumstances.
I was thinking back on our final battle with Chrysalis, Tirek and Cosy Glow, and when we had our magic returned to us. It was something I only just realised if I am completely honest with myself, but Pinkie Pie had a notable amount of magic return to her. Now I know that all creatures of Equestria have inherent magics tied to them, whether that be flight or cutie mark magic, but this was different. Of course, I called Pinkie to Canterlot immediately for study, which she was more than happy to oblige. But I found something strange, more strange than Pinkie normally is, which I am aware is quite the high bar.
Pinkie seems to exhibit traits of unicorn magic, as well as the hollow bones of a pegasus, which does explain how she is always so bouncy and seems so light on her hooves. But it’s the unicorn magic that eludes me, I know two types of ponies can produce offspring that are not of their species, Pound and Pumpkin Cake for example, but by tracking their lineage you can clearly see early signs of mixed breeding. I took my time to look through Pinkie’s lineage, which took far longer than I am willing to explain here, and found absolutely no other mixed breeding, she is a pure earth pony, which I have come to find is quite rare in our generation.
This, among other notable readings from my tests, which you will find attached to this scroll, has made me curious. Do earth ponies or any other pure-bred (as much as I despise that term) species have an inherent magic that presents itself later in life? I have contacted the Pie family to enquire about testing them also, but I have not received any response, and considering their more traditional lifestyle, that does not surprise me.
I realise I am rambling along, but this matter is of extreme interest, though I would understand if you simply ignore this letter in favour of continuing your retirement. I do hope you visit Canterlot soon, and that you and Princess Luna are well.
Your Faithful Student,
Twilight Sparkle.
