Work Text:
The birds were chirping, the sounds of children laughing and running around, excited chatter between people who's having picnics.
It was a wonderful day... for murder.
"Aaah..." Durge laid down on a blanket on the grass, his butler sitting next to him, anxious.
"What a beautiful day. The sun is out, the sky is clear..."
In the side of his eyes he caught a reaper of bhaal snatch a woman from behind, his hand cupping her mouth before stabbing her in the back.
"A perfect day for murder." He whispered as a fist walked by, the victim fell to the ground and alerted the fist, but no murderer visible.
A sudden swish was heard behind him, from the shadows. "My lord." The reaper of bhaal whispered.
"Good morning" Durge answered with glee, "nice kill. The sneak, muffling, the stab- very good placement by the way, less blood on you but a lot on the victim, I like it."
The reaper of bhaal felt his pulse skip a beat, praise? From the chosen of bhaal? From the son of bhaal?
"Th-thank you, my lord." He couldn't wait to tell his friends.
"However-"
If he ofc made it back home.
"Where's your dagger?" Durge smirked.
The sound of tapping around his body was almost comical, they all watched as the fist pulled out the weapon.
"Oh fuck." Was all the assassin could say.
Durge moved his fingers, and Sceleritas Fel disappeared, appeared in front of the fist, snapped their neck, picked up the weapon and reappeared next to Durge, holding out the dagger.
Durge took it and handed it back to its owner, "here you go. Be careful for future stabbing though." He smiled innocently, the assassin nodded quickly and in shame.
"Th-thank you..."
Sceleritas Fel gave him a look, the assassin quickly added "my lord."
"Wait. Before you go-" Durge handed him a peach, "eat a fruit. It's good for you."
The assassin accepted before vanishing.
Sceleritas Fel grinned, "was it poisoned?"
"No."
The butler's smile faded, "had it gone bad?"
"Nope. It's just good for you." He laid his arm over his face, to take a nap.
~the temple~
"No I swear it, and he gave me a peach"
"Really? Where's this peach then?" Another reaper grinned, clearly not believing this story.
"I ate it of course. I knew that the moment I came here with fruit you would just snatch it."
"I would not!" He gasped dramatically.
They bickered among themselves as the Durge walked in, they stopped and respectfully bowed, the reaper who got the peach looked a bit further up, just to see.
Durge saw him, "hey" he 'sup'ed him, "good peach?"
The guy nodded quickly, Sceleritas Fel frowned and followed his master.
"See?"
"Wow... you weren't kidding"
"What did you do to make him notice you? It can't be because of the-"
"Master" Sceleritas Fel started, clearly about to go into a 'im slightly disappointed in you' talk.
"Yeah?" Durge sat down at his desk, pulling out a piece of paper.
"Why... did you do something... nice?"
"Because it's fun"
"B-but-"
"Do you see this?" Durge held up a, badly and quickly done, drawing of Sceleritas Fel.
The butler nodded slowly, very confused and concerned about the lack of artistic skills.
"Now..." Durge drew something else on it. "This. Can you tell me what this is?"
Sceleritas Fel would've preferred it if it was a drawing of him being stabbed to death but...
"Your adoring butler... wearing a...?"
"This is you right now. You're wearing a clown hat."
Sceleritas Fel felt his head, nope. Still the same hat.
"Its fun being nice because it makes them do a better job, and it makes the temple less... depressing, ya know?" Durge, the son and chosen of Bhaal said, very casually.
"And I'm the one who have to sleep here, with the door open, by the way."
He drew a circle on top and bit his finger, let one drop fall, and now "a clown nose. Here you go, now go away."
The butler looked at the drawing all confused, but disappeared as told.
