Chapter 1: Headstrong, Pretty Blonde One

Chapter Text

Tim and Steph met during Tim's Robin days and the two  got on like fire and oil, highly flammable and can quickly become explosive. Saying that the two didn't really get along was definetly the understatement of the century. Heck the girl even threw a brick straight at his face during there first meeting. The two couldn't seem to ever get along. That slowly changes however when the two are forced to work together to take down a common foe. Cluemaster.

"Look bird-brain this is my fight so you and daddy bats should just run along and, go and mind ya own damn business"  Spoiler growled. like hell was I gonna let some newbie just rush on out there and fight someone like Cluemaster because although he isn't the most dangerous rouge there is in Gotham he is definitely much tougher than some people might expect and definitely stronger than new players like spoiler who lacks any real training.

"You know we can't do that, heck I can't do that so would you stop being so stubborn and just let me help!" I sneered back equally as hard back. she didn't respond for a few seconds before a small huff escaped her mouth.

"why do you care huh? what's this got to do with ya?" she question looking at me square on as if daring me to lie.

"I care because its my job to. Trust me I have been where you are believing that I can get things done on my own rushing  head first into a mission only to get myself hurt in the process we can do this together." I told her being the most sincere I have been in a while.

"Yea, well that was sweet and all but, this one different I don't need any help I was doing just find without any of you bats. I don't need you." God this girl was going to give me a headache I was really trying to help, but it seems that she doesn't understand what compassion is if it hit her in the face. Before I could  make any more quips at her a flying kick was sent straight into my face almost with enough force as the brick she threw at me. I probably should've expected this but with my body immobile for the time being it allows her to get away. dammit.

The next time we cross paths is through mutual patrol routes. and by that I mean I have been tracking Spoilers every move since her first appearance on the scene so, I would know if she ever patrolling over in my side since the bats have no connection to her its good to know that she's being safe even if she would hate me for looking out for her well being.

" Oh heya Robbie watchu doing away from big Bats?" Spoiler mocked lucky for her I wasn't gonna let her get under my skin because I knew it's what she took pride in.

"I wanna ask you a question" is what I simply told her I of course know her secret identity I'm not sure if Bruce knows but, I wasn't inclined to tell him yet but, then again he is the worlds greatest detective so he could've found out. Ever since meeting spoiler there has always been one thing nagging my brain what's her relationship with Cluemaster. Now I'm smart enough to draw my own conclusion but it's always good to have dignified proof.

"Shoot,  there's no guaranteed  I'll answer though I know how you bats can get." which yeah probably a smart idea.

"Y'know the one thing stumping me is why are you so concerned about Cluemaster? what's your motive?" I could just tell by the way her eyes darkened and the way her stance stiffed that this was not the right question to ask.

" Okay let's get one thing straight. Im not concerned about him. And two that just isn't any of your business just know that I want him to go down and trust me he will." Her infamous sneer has once again return.

"Hmm, so if its not concern you harbor for him it must run deeper than that one can not simply hate a person for no reason, I wonder." I pondered out loud as I watched her body become more tense and as expected she backed me against a wall harsh.

"I won't say it again. Back off birdie." she practically growled animalisticly

"It would only make sense if the connection y'all share ran deeper I'd say Father and Daughter perhaps? You see I ran your face through the Batcomputer database and you wouldn't believe what I found "Young Stephanie Brown daughter to Arthur Brown or other known as the Criminal Cluemaster and Crystal Brown who later left tired of Arthur brown actions as the Cluemaster . Your hatred for Cluemaster stems from a combination of neglect, emotional and physical abuse, and a deep desire to escape the shadow of your father’s failed criminal career. Heck 'Spoiler' really nailed the hand on the coffin because of course you would take it upon yourself to trifle all your father plans."

"STOP!" she screamed and that was when I knew that I was correct because of course as well as being a horrible Gotham rogue he had to be a horrible father as well.

"You don't know shit about my family so don't pretend that you do! god you bats never know when to mind your own business" and with that she took off into the night yet again running away from her problems.

After that night on Gotham rooftops me and Steph have been running into each other a lot some days are peaceful while some aren't but, that's okay because at least its not like how it was when we first met and, at least now we can stand to be in the same room together without one of us blowing a fuse so, that great. But, lately things have been quiet suspiciously quiet and Tim hasn't seen or heard from his blonde headed friend which was strange because she was usually somewhere she shouldn't be and he was really starting to worry.

It has been days since then and Tim, picks up on Stephanie’s sudden disappearance because of course he does . Batman, as always, is preoccupied with several other pressing matters, but Tim knows he can't sit idly. He's aware of the emotional weight that Stephanie carries, and he also knows her history with both her father and Batman. While the Bat-family has seen many traumatic events, Tim understands that this is different—this isn't just about saving a partner, this is about saving a friend from a lesser evil. Tim immediately sets out to track down Cluemaster because who else could have had something to do with the girls disappearance? , utilizing his detective skills, gadgets, and extensive knowledge of Gotham's underworld as he digs deeper, he uncovers a trail of subtle clues—memories left behind by Stephanie in places only she would think to hide them

After a series of trials and narrow escapes, Tim tracks down Cluemaster’s hideout—an abandoned factory on the outskirts of Gotham. Inside, Stephanie is barely conscious, bruised and battered, but still alive. She’s bound to a chair, her head down, as Cluemaster paces angrily, ranting about how Batman doesn’t care for her the way he does, and how he’ll make her understand once and for all.

Tim confronts Cluemaster in a tense standoff, challenging him for his actions and accused him of using his daughter as a pawn. Cluemaster, cornered and desperate, pulls a gun on Tim, but in his moment of distraction, Stephanie, despite the pain, remains defiant. She refuses to betray Batman, but the toll on her mind and body is severe. Her thoughts drift to the complex relationship she shares with her biological father—Cluemaster—and the man who took her in after her father's neglect, Batman. Stephanie, still groggy and defiant, takes a risky move to free herself. In the chaos that follows, Stephanie and Tim are able to escape, but Cluemaster isn’t going down without a fight. A brutal battle ensues in the factory as Tim fights to protect Stephanie because he knows if it can down to it despite there relationship she would do the same for him.

Back in the Batcave, Tim and Stephanie have a private conversation. It’s a moment of vulnerability for both of them. Tim opens up about his own struggles with feeling like he’s never fully accepted as part of Batman’s family, despite being one of the most trusted members. Stephanie listens, offering her own thoughts about the duality of having both Cluemaster and Batman as father figures. As they share this moment, Tim reassures her that no matter what, she’s not alone. The Bat-family might not have all the answers, but they will always be there for her—just as he will be, even when things are messy.

after that long drawn out comfortation with clue cluemaster Tim and Stephane have learned how to better understand each other as they realize how similar they truly are to each other I guess this is what sparks a relationship out of the two. and of course both Bruce and Dick start to notice one being the worlds greatest detective  and the other being trained by him.

Bruce, ever the vigilant observer, begins to pick up on the small but telling signs—the way Tim's mood has improved since their last encounter, the way they spend more time together, often in private conversations or moments of silent understanding. it was then that Bruce decided that he would approach Tim on the topic. so after a mission is when bruce confronted Tim.

"I see you’ve been spending a lot of time with Stephanie lately." I tried my best to state as calmly as possible but that dosent seem to wrk as I notice Tim body tense slightly  slightly, but his guard is down just enough for me to see the soft smile tugging at his lips.

"Uhh..yeah. We’ve been talking. After everything that happened… it just helps to have someone who understands." he simply shrugged

I made sure my expression remains impassive, as to not clue Tim in on something that suggests I knows more than i'm letting on. I decide not to press the matter further, but the weight of my words hangs in the air.

"Just be careful, Tim. The line between family and... something else, can get blurry in this line of work." Tim nods, appreciating the concern, but his gaze is steady.

"I know. But I think... I think we can figure it out."

" i'm sure you can chum" with a smile I walked away believing this conversation to be done with.

Dick, however,  is quick to pick up on the change in Tim’s behavior. It’s the way Tim is less guarded, more open than he’s been in a long time. The way he grins more, laughs more, especially when Stephanie is around. One evening after a particularly difficult mission, Dick and Tim are having a drink at the Batcave. Tim looks a little distracted, checking his phone every now and then.

"Someone’s got their mind elsewhere tonight." I teased as I watched Tim’s cheeks flush just slightly, though he tries to hide it.

"What do you mean?" Tim asked trying to come off as confused

"I mean, you’re looking at your phone like it’s a lifeline. Let me guess: Stephanie?" I of course grin knowingly

Tim hesitates, then sighs, a smile creeping onto his face despite himself. "Yeah. We’ve been talking a lot. After everything that happened, I think we’re both… trying to make sense of things."

"I see. Well, you know I’m not one to judge. But don’t forget—you’ve got a lot of people who care about you here. And if you need advice on… well, anything, I’m your guy."

Tim nods, grateful for Dick’s open support. He’s not surprised—Dick, after all, has always been the one to see things for what they are and not make them more complicated than they need to be.

" also good choice picking the headstrong, pretty blonde one she'll definitely keep ya on your toes" I cackled as his face once again lit up like giant Christmas lights.
