Stars of Broadway Middle School Regina George, Janis ‘Imi’ike, and Shane Oman Discuss Their First Big Roles

With Broadway Middle School’s cast as stacked with academy award nominees and winners alike, we’ve been excited to meet the new talent coming on to the scene.

The show has introduced three young actors to make prominent throughout. They’re playing Jessica, Isabel, and Zander. Jessica and Isabel are best friends with Zander coming to interrupt their dynamic, all while Jessica deals with her mother being the principal of the school and works through the awkward years of middle school with her best friend and new boy in class.

“I’m excited to be acting in a school,” Regina gushes in our interview, “I’ve been homeschooled my entire life, so being among people my age is exciting, and Jessica’s really fun to play. She says all the things that I’m not allowed to.”

This is Janis ‘Imi’ike’s first role. She’s playing Isabel, counterpart to George’s Jessica, and shows a lot of excitement to the new challenge of acting.

“I’ve grown up around this,” ‘Imi’ike cites, “my mom works with celebrities. But it’s very different being behind a camera and in front of a camera. It’s cool to have someone like Regina to learn from because she’s been doing this since she could walk. And she’ll tell you that.”

Shane Oman has a few acting credits to his name, but it’s to be noted that this is his first recurring role in any project. He nods along to the girls, “I’m happy to be working with them. We’ve been having a lot of fun so far. Even when we have to sit down and actually do school.”

While the pilot features mostly the adult cast, showing off different dynamics among the teachers and the foreboding presence of Jessica’s mother, Mrs. Thornton, there are notable scenes including the students. One includes ‘Imi’ike’s character rattling off in fluent Spanish.

“My Mom speaks Spanish,” ‘Imi’ike looks giddy to share, “and my dad is Hawaiian. I want to learn more languages, but three’s a good start.” ‘Imi’ike is native Hawaiian, with both parents having heritage there as well as a “smattering of other things,” she adds.

“I’m just boring,” Regina notes, much to her costars naysay. They quickly add that she’s got the coolest parents in the whole cast.

Broadway Middle School premieres September 18th on ABC at 8:30pm EST.

Janis ‘Imi’ike To Pull Out Of Broadway Middle School Season 3 Only A Week Prior To Filming

News has broken that Janis ‘Imi’ike, breakout star on hit show Broadway Middle School, will be pulling out of the aforementioned show. ‘Imi’ike starred as Isabel Akana, best friend of Regina George’s Jessica Thornton. This was her debut role.

‘Imi’ike will not be making any return to the show, despite the call being made only a week prior to filming for Season 3. The season is reported to go on as planned, however major revisions will be made to accommodate ‘Imi’ike’s unplanned exit.

Her representatives clarified this morning that the decision has nothing to do with anyone who works on the show and is instead a personal matter. No further elaboration was provided.

‘Imi’ike is represented by Alecia Hubbard of Havika Management.

Regina George Dishes on Costar Janis ‘Imi’ike Leaving!

When interviewed on the 87th Academy Awards Red Carpet, Regina George is with her mother, nominee June George, almost a spitting image of her. She’s polite to everyone she encounters, and speaks with such practiced poise that it’s clear she’s no stranger to events like this, even at only 14 years old.

George is asked when interviewing with E! about her role in the show Broadway Middle School, a clear hit on ABC.

“It’s one of the coolest things I’ve gotten to do,” George says, “I really like acting with people who are my age and older than me. There’s a lot to learn from all sides.”

When E! asked about costar Janis ‘Imi’ike’s abrupt exit last year, she pauses for a moment before responding, “We wish her the best. She was phenomenal on the show and she’s very missed now. But it’s like school in real life, right? People move unexpectedly. Parents get jobs, maybe a grandparent gets sick and now you’re expected to help out. That’s kind of just what happens.”

June George, who’s lingering behind her, stands proudly behind her daughter.

Regina added a hasty second bout of well wishes to the family before being moved off to another interview. George went on attend the ceremony with her mother, who took home an award for Best Supporting Actress in Gladly Alone.

“Hey guys!” Regina grins at something off camera, “Shane’s here. We’d just like to say thank you for the past five years and all of the love that’s been shown to BMS. It’s been the experience of a lifetime and while we’re sad to go, we’re proud of what we’ve done.”

Shane appears on camera, “And no, we’re not dating.”

Regina looks displeased with his comment, but pushes on, “The finale is coming out in five days. We hope you’ll tune in! I think it came out pretty good!”

“By the way, we didn’t kiss!” Shane shouts out at the end.

Regina just nods, her face not giving anything away, “That’s true.”

Regina George and Aaron Samuels Set To Star In Hugh Carlisle’s New Film, Hell On Earth

EXCLUSIVE: Regina George and Aaron Samuels have been cast in Hugh Carlisle’s new film, Hell On Earth. It will be produced by 20th Century Studios. Carlisle will be an executive producer, as well as George’s former costar on Broadway Middle School, Kendra Atkinson.

Not much is known about the film thus far, though early details describe it as a heavy post-high school story with George and Samuels set to play each other’s love interest and the film following George’s character.

George and Samuels have yet to work together, but fans online have already said that they want them to work together following a brief encounter on the Emmys Red Carpet this past year. Their representatives have clarified that they’re “already close friends” and “cannot wait to work together.”

George is coming off of two movies, Pixar Studios’ Butterflies and Tess Croft’s Very Good, both well received by critics. Samuels is adding this project to an already busy schedule with projects for Marvelous Studios and Gerald Smith’s upcoming comedy, 60 over 18.

Carlisle is best known for his work on Fried Wires and has been nominated for multiple awards in the past, though he seems to be continuing his chase for Best Director.

George is repped by Derek Vaughn of Havika Management. Samuels is repped by Johnson Entertainment. Carlisle is represented by Christian Farborough.

Regina George Marked As Youngest In Best Actress Category By 10 Years

Academy Award nominations were announced this morning with a handful of upsets.

A nomination that is being received as well-deserved, however, is one for Regina George’s performance in Hell On Earth. Her performance was acclaimed by critics and signs have pointed to her earning this nomination for a couple of months now.

At 19 years old, George is the youngest nominated in this category, followed by 30-year-old Kelly Reilly. Despite this, George is as cool as ever, crying in her shared video on Instagram and saying only “That’s so f**king cool.”

Fans have long speculated that George isn’t interested in the acclaim and has been forced into this career due to her parents, and her lack of reaction has led to a lot of criticism on social media and concern from fans. George has since assured fans that the reaction came from being exhausted due to the time of the announcement coming out, and notes that she’s working hard on new project, Lonely Love, supposedly coming out next year.

One thing rings clear of all of the hubbub; Regina George has a good shot at winning this award.

It’s happening! Janis ‘Imi’ike Breaks Back Out on to the Scene After 7-Year Hiatus!

Seven years after her departure from Broadway Middle School, Janis ‘Imi’ike is returning to the public eye.

In an Instagram video published early on her 21st birthday, ‘Imi’ike thanks the fans that stuck by, adding with a smile “if any of you did, I know it’s been a long time.”

She adds, “I’ve been busy. I got my bachelors degree in music theory, I’ve been writing, I’ve been painting… it’s been a lot.”

‘Imi’ike promises to discuss more in the future and grins as she says that she has music on the way. She cites that music is something that’s helped her get through the time away, all without mentioning what happened during that time. Fans have speculated a myriad of things online, but nothing has been confirmed. ‘Imi’ike’s representatives have refused to comment.

At the end of her video, ‘Imi’ike picks up the camera and quickly adds, “By the way, I’m a lesbian.”

Whatever she has coming, fans are excited.

Regina George Dishes on Romance!

In an interview with iHeartRadio, Regina sat through an interview about her latest movie, a rom-com with best friend of almost ten years now, Shane Oman.

Towards the end of the interview, Regina was asked about her romantic history, or lack thereof.

“I don’t think my romantic life is all that interesting,” Regina says, shifting uncomfortably, “It’s not what I want to be known for. The benefit of growing up with parents that have spent so much of their time in the limelight is that they taught me how to hide from you motherfuckers. If slash when I decide to come around and say that I have a partner is my business alone, and you don’t have the permission to push otherwise. I’m still a human at the end of the day.”

Shane nods, “Can I say something?”

“Go for it,” Regina uncrosses and re-crosses her legs.

“I've been sitting at her side for ten years now on and off. And she’s always being asked about her relationships. Always. I’ve been asked five times at the most over the years I’ve been acting. It’s, pardon my french, fucking stupid. Regina deserves better than you taking up your already limited time with questions that you know you’re not going to get answers to. And y’all can print all of that.”

Regina remains quiet.

Regina George is Taking a Break

For the first time in almost five years, Regina George doesn’t have anything on her immediate roster. When asked about this on her press tour for her recent movie, Happily, George says that she’ll be taking 2024 off as a break.

She cites that she’s been working almost nonstop for her entire life and would like to find some peace outside of that.

“I’m tired,” she says with a rough chuckle, “and I want to live my life. I love acting. I’ll always come back to it, I think, but it’s demanding. Really long days and when it comes to press like this, a lot of traveling. I’ll come back, though. Just you wait.”

George goes on to remain professional through the photoshoot, and thanks everyone for their hard work. She’s poised all the way through; it’s like she was born for this.

Janis ‘Imi’ike is Proving Comebacks are Possible

‘Imi’ike grins as she recounts the last three years since she’s stepped back into the spotlight. She made her reappearance online in 2021 after seven years of silence, explaining that she had found an interest in music, that a lot had happened, and right before ending the video, coming out as a lesbian.

She has since released two EPs, Standing Tall in 2022 and then Love is a Lie in 2023. This month, she releases her debut album with Island Records, named Anahera. ‘Imi’ike explains to me that this name is her middle name, and explains that when she’s home in Hawaii, she identifies more with this part of herself and wanted that to be displayed on her album.

“I only just moved to California two years ago,” she explains, showing me a photo of her home back in Hawaii, “My dad has this lovely place in Kohala. I try and go back as much as possible, but it’s going to be a while before I’m able to this time.”

She’s of course talking about her upcoming tour starting in May, taking her across North America. She crosses her fingers as she talks about dates in Europe and how badly she wants them to work out.

“I want to do everything,” ‘Imi’ike says with a lovestruck look in her eyes, “I want people to feel seen. And I want to see them.”

When she’s asked about what stop she’s most excited about, she shrugs, “Los Angeles? Chicago’s got a cool venue, I’m excited to go there, too. And there’s a two week long break in the middle for the sake of my health with the last stop in New York, so I’m hoping to see some stuff on Broadway.”

‘Imi’ike’s grin practically breaks her face in half when we broach the topic of her Tony-award winning older brother, Kai, who’s currently playing Hercules Mulligan and James Madison in Hamilton on Broadway. “I already have tickets. I’ve seen him in it already and he’s fantastic, but I already have tickets to see him again. He’s the coolest.”

With the ten year anniversary of her leaving Broadway Middle School rapidly approaching, I ask if she’s had any regrets.

“No,” she’s quick to respond, “I know why I had to leave. My family knows why I had to leave. I might go more in depth someday, but it was for the best. And it’s really cool to see how everyone’s doing these days. Regina’s killing it, she’s in everything. Shane, too, I watched the first season of the show that he’s on right now, it’s phenomenal. I’m really proud of them.”

“Any chance of a reunion?” I ask carefully.

She shrugs, “Anything’s possible.”
