Work Text:
Evbo wanted to embark on the long journey to the Ice Legend as quickly as possible. However, as the sun set on the horizon, turning the void the same color as firelight, he knew he would have to bunker down with Seawatt for the night.
He made the decision to stay after ten minutes of self-debating. He was truly tempted to just risk getting lost in the dark — it’d be far better than having to lay on the cold floor of Seawatt’s sandstone tower, after all — but he thought rationally, knowing deep down it’d be safer to stay put than to leave.
The stars peeked through the glass-less window, and Evbo propped himself up on the stone frame, staring up at them. In an attempt to quell his anxieties and finally get some rest, he tried counting each one, though that was doing little to lull him into sleep.
“Never took you as the stargazing type,” a dreaded voice suddenly cut through his efforts, and Evbo turned to glare over his shoulder. Seawatt was standing only a few blocks behind him, holding open one of his unorganized chests.
“You don’t have to make small talk,” Evbo shot back, not feeling up to casual conversation with the man he hated so much.
“No need to be so snappy, dude,” Seawatt responded, a hint of amusement in his tone, “it passes the time.”
He shut the chest, a soft thud echoing through the mostly empty tower. He made his way over to Evbo, who tensed up as the other approached. Seawatt bent down, placing his hands on his knees as he also gazed out the ‘window’. He pointed off to the side, towards a small clump of stars.
“Ursa Minor’s over there.”
“You saw that quickly.”
“I’ve been here for a hot second,” Seawatt sniped, “had a lot of time to find some constellations.”
Whatever Evbo was planning to say died in his throat, causing him to only reply with a huff. In the silence, he stared up at the night sky, though he couldn’t help how his eyes drifted back to Seawatt.
Evbo shuffled to the side, making room for the other to sit down next to him. Even though he wasn’t looking at him, Evbo could sense Seawatt’s brow raise when he noticed the movement.
“You standing over me is creeping me out,” Evbo rushed out, a harsh edge to his voice. Seawatt didn’t say anything back, instead taking the seat next to Evbo. Something was caught in the silence between the two, shifting it from being slightly awkward to tense .
Evbo felt eyes on him.
He turned, black meeting purple as he and Seawatt stared at each other.
“It’s a good view, isn’t it?” Seawatt said, voice almost soft.
“‘S not bad,” was Evbo’s reply. He found his eyes attempting to dip down, but he forced them to stay on the eyes of the man across from him. Seawatt smiled at him, a smile that felt condescending in nature. It made Evbo’s nose scrunch up with annoyance. “What?”
Suddenly, Seawatt leaned forward, placing both of his hands behind Evbo in order to prop himself up. Evbo felt the tip of his ears turn warm.
“Back up,” he found himself saying. Seawatt rolled his eyes, though stubbornly stayed put. He leaned impossibly closer, and Evbo almost died on the spot. He felt himself tense, breath hitching at his proximity.
Seawatt’s smile broke into a grin.
“You should see yourself right now,” he said, voice still quiet; a murmur. Evbo let out a scoff, which only seemed to make Seawatt giggle.
One of Seawatt’s hands eased off of the floor, reaching up to press against Evbo’s cheek. His palm was warm against Evbo’s cold skin, and Evbo had to stop himself from leaning into the touch; though he couldn’t prevent the staggered sigh that left his mouth.
Evbo didn’t know how long they stayed like that, staring at each other in the moonlight. He didn’t have to know, as Seawatt eventually closed the distance between them, pressing their lips together.
Evbo’s eyes fluttered shut, and he tilted his head in order to press against the kiss. It didn’t go far, as Evbo fairly quickly snapped back into his body, eyes going wide as he scrambled away from Seawatt.
“What the hell?!” He yelped, sounding more shocked that he reciprocated the kiss than that it happened at all. He scrambled away, back hitting the stone wall as he watched a frown tug at the edges of Seawatt’s lips, he seemed disappointed.
“Woah, dude, calm down,” Seawatt held his hands up defensively, “you seemed fine with it.”
Evbo felt his cheeks start to warm, and he hoped the darkness hid the pink tint growing on his face. He went to speak, maybe ask if they could just forget that ever happened (he didn’t even know why it happened), but he couldn’t get the words out; only croaking out some useless stutters.
Seawatt’s expression shifted from vaguely upset to flat out annoyed.
“Okay, shut up,” he sighed in exasperation and crawled over to Evbo, crowding him against the wall. He placed his hands on Evbo’s knees, gently pushing his legs open in order to get closer to him. Suddenly, his eyes met Evbo’s, and Evbo wanted to back into the stone and disappear forever.
Seawatt leaned closer, till Evbo could feel his breath against his lips, something he both loved and hated.
“I’m going to kiss you again, okay?” Seawatt murmured, and while Evbo appreciated the warning; he could sense the amusement that laced Seawatt’s voice, giving the words a mocking feel to them. Evbo frowned, though didn’t protest, expecting Seawatt to take his silence as a confirmation. However, he didn’t. “ Okay?”
“Okay,” Evbo replied. He didn’t even recognize his own voice as it clawed out of his throat.
Just like before, their lips connected. Despite it not being any deeper than the last kiss, Evbo still felt that knowing it was going to happen made it feel more intense, and his body was quickly rising in temperature.
Seawatt’s hands trailed up his skin; going from his knees, to his waist, to his shoulders, where he stopped. The action caused a shiver to dance up Evbo’s spine, though he couldn’t get himself to unfreeze and touch Seawatt back.
He found himself getting lost in the kiss, shutting out the entire world surrounding them. He was starting to melt into it, he could feel the way his shoulders had begun to slowly relax under Seawatt’s touch, though with a slight movement of Seawatt’s fingers, Evbo’s nerves lit again.
Seawatt’s right hand moved away from Evbo’s shoulder, trailing along his collarbone, and pausing at the base of his neck. Evbo expected him to do anything else except wrap his fingers around Evbo’s throat.
It wasn’t a harsh grip, Evbo could definitely get out of it if he just squirmed a bit, but that didn’t change the bolt of adrenaline that rushed through him.
His useless body finally unfroze itself, but it didn’t do much, merely scrambling his hands up to cling onto Seawatt’s wrist, ready to try and tug it off if the other suddenly turned their make out into a homicide.
Evbo broke the kiss with a gasp, instinctively trying to back away from Seawatt, but the wall behind him only meant his attempt ended with him banging his head against sandstone.
“Let go,” Evbo managed to get out through heavy breaths, though even he could tell he wasn’t too convincing. Seawatt could tell too, as he raised a brow at the words.
His thumb brushed against the side of Evbo’s neck, lighting Evbo’s skin up with goosebumps. His blank expression shifted into a soft smile, barely visible in the dark.
“You’re very overdramatic,” Seawatt hummed, his tone sounding like he was merely making an observation. Evbo didn’t think freaking out over the threat of being strangled was overdramatic, and his thoughts must’ve been clear on his face. “I won’t hurt you.”
Evbo narrowed his eyes at him.
Seawatt didn’t warn him the next time. He used his grip on Evbo’s neck to tilt his head slightly to the side, so he could move closer and kiss him once again. It didn’t stay as soft as the other two had been, and Evbo soon felt teeth digging into his bottom lip, causing him to make a small yelping noise.
“Dude—“ Evbo tried to say against Seawatt’s lips, but he was cut off by the feeling of a tongue slipping against his own. His hands moved, gripping onto Seawatt’s shirt as he suppressed a noise at the feeling.
By the time Seawatt pulled away, a thin string of spit connected the two. Evbo tried to chase the kiss, but the hand on his neck firmly held him in place. Evbo expected Seawatt to kiss him again once he had caught his breath, however, he didn’t. He stared at Evbo, taking in all of his features as he stayed silent.
“What?” Evbo said, voice coming out as more of a hiss than he had intended. The edges of Seawatt’s lips turn upwards in a smile, his gaze dipping down to the hand around Evbo’s neck. “Don’t even think about it.”
“No fun,” Seawatt pouted, eyes locking back onto Evbo’s own. “You want another kiss?”
“What do you think?”
Seawatt’s expression shifted into faux disappointment.
“You can be a bit nicer.”
Evbo blinked, trying to search for a sign that Seawatt was just joking around, but he couldn’t find any. He bit at his lip, debating if some of his dignity was a worthy exchange. He let this continue on, might as well see it through.
“Can I have a kiss?” He avoided Seawatt’s eyes as he spoke, his voice hushed. When he didn’t get a response, he forced himself to look back at Seawatt — who was smiling expectantly, like that wasn’t good enough. Evbo gritted his teeth, and forced out; “Please.”
Seawatt’s face twisted into a grin, and Evbo felt regret start to pool in his gut.
“See? That wasn’t so hard.”
Evbo’s fantasies of punching him were waved away when Seawatt pressed a soft peck to Evbo’s lips, his mouth then trailing down his jaw. Finally, Seawatt’s hand pulled away from his throat, instead tangling in his blonde hair. For a moment, Evbo found himself leaning into the touch; it was soft, only a light grip being held. However, a sudden sharp pain changed that, as Seawatt had forcefully tugged his head to the side, exposing more of his neck.
“Stop that,” Evbo said, a noise falling from his lips. Seawatt’s huffed laugh tickled his neck, causing an annoyed look to splatter Evbo’s face. However, as soon as he felt Seawatt’s teeth tease his skin, the annoyance quickly melted away, his breath hitching.
When Seawatt’s teeth finally sunk into his skin, a jolt of pleasure shot through Evbo, pain just barely lingering. Seawatt pressed his tongue against the new mark, and Evbo couldn’t stop the whimper that escaped his mouth. He leaned his head back, both giving Seawatt more room and relieving the pressure of Seawatt’s hand still harshly holding his hair.
His lips parted, his breaths coming out heavy as the bite’s pain slowly drifted away. Seawatt’s next mark was harsher than the last, so much so that Evbo was sure it broke skin; he wasn’t proud of the whine that he made.
“Sea—“ he gasped, tugging at the front of Seawatt’s shirt, “not so harsh.”
“It’s not that bad,” Seawatt argued, his eye roll obvious in his tone of voice. One of Evbo’s hands tangled away from Seawatt, going to press against the bite mark. His eyes glanced over at it once he pulled away, able to just see small splatters of blood.
He held his hand up, showing the blood off to Seawatt, who quickly grew an unimpressed expression.
“Really? That freaks you out?”
“It doesn’t freak me out, ” Evbo mumbled, “it just kind of hurt.”
Seawatt chuckled, pulling away from Evbo. Evbo stopped himself from protesting, he’d embarrassed himself enough. Seawatt leaned back just a bit, pushing open one of his double chests. Evbo watched as he reached into it, digging through the mess before he pulled out what seemed to be an iron dagger, made of whatever Seawatt had leftover.
“Woah!” Evbo squeaked, once again trying (and failing) to press himself more against the wall, “you’re insane. Put that away.”
Unsurprisingly, Seawatt didn’t listen to him. He crawled back between his legs, the dagger being frighteningly close to Evbo’s thighs. The blade lifted up, and Evbo instinctively screwed his eyes shut, tensing up in a useless attempt to protect himself.
The cold metal rested against the warm skin of Evbo’s collarbone, pulling another whimper from him, a whimper that he shamefully admitted to himself wasn’t fully made of fear.
Then, Seawatt paused.
He paused for a second, then two, then five…
Evbo’s eyes cracked open, his breath still quick. Seawatt was staring at him.
“I’m not going to cut you.”
Evbo liked to think that he didn’t trust him, though he could feel the way his muscles slowly relaxed, and he hated himself for it.
“Then why do you even have that?” Evbo asked, causing a smirk to grow onto Seawatt’s face. He moved the dagger, just a little, but it was a quick movement and caused Evbo to flinch, whining in a way he was sure was pathetic.
“You have nice reactions,” Seawatt said, finally dragging the blade away from Evbo’s neck.
“Asshole,” Evbo snapped back, which only made Seawatt giggle.
“Keep on talking like that and I’ll change my mind,” Seawatt hummed casually — too casually. “What do you want now?”
“For you to put the dagger away.”
“You know what I mean.”
Evbo grumbled, but did what was asked anyways, even though he himself didn’t know why he went along.
“Just keep touching me. Please,” the plea was tacked on at the end, like he just remembered to include it. When he saw the dagger start to move, he spoke again with a hiss, “with your hands .”
“You’re so boring,” Seawatt scoffed. His free hand reached out to cup Evbo’s cheek, a deceivingly sweet gesture that Evbo foolishly leaned into. Seawatt cooed, like he was looking at a dog.
Evbo felt Seawatt’s thumb suddenly brush against his bottom lip, and he couldn’t help himself from opening his mouth, allowing Seawatt to slip the tip of his thumb inside. Evbo felt dizzy, looking up at Seawatt through half-lidded eyes. Seawatt pulled his thumb away, wiping the spit off on Evbo’s cheek, an action that made Evbo cringe.
Seawatt leaned down, kissing the edge of Evbo’s mouth. He went to move away, but stopped himself, his breath hot against Evbo’s skin as they stared into each other's eyes.
“Cute,” Seawatt muttered, the one-word compliment causing Evbo’s face to heat up. He felt something on the tip of his tongue, a confession he had the feeling he would regret later. So, he swallowed the sentence back down his throat.
“Thank you,” he said, his tone shaky.
He took initiative this time, sneaking his hands into Seawatt’s hair and tugging him into another kiss. Whenever they had to break the kiss, they would never pull too far away, panting into each other's mouths as they did so.
Evbo suddenly felt something push against the front of his shirt. His eyes fluttered open, and he glanced down to see that damn dagger pressed against his chest.
“Don’t freak,” Seawatt said, before Evbo could even register what was happening. Evbo felt fear twist at his gut, being asked to place all his trust in a man he didn’t trust in the slightest. Seawatt must’ve seen his nerves written on his face; “I won’t hurt you, I still need you.”
Evbo’s nose scrunched up, “glad to know I’m only safe if I’m useful.”
“Don’t be like that,” Seawatt huffed a laugh, “you’re enjoying this, it shouldn’t matter.”
Evbo’s mouth formed into a straight line, not sure how to respond to that. He tried to ignore the knife against his chest and instead pressed his lips against Seawatt’s jaw, sucking in a mark of his own that drew a gasp from the other. The sound made something stir inside of Evbo, something he tried to ignore.
The hand on his cheek slipped down to his waist, playing with the button on his jeans as Evbo continued to litter kisses down Seawatt’s jaw. As his zipper was undone, Evbo rested his head back against the cold stone, feeling nice against his hot skin.
Seawatt stared at him, eyes trailing over every detail of his face — from his hazy eyes to blushed red cheeks. Some kind of emotion brewed in Seawatt’s gaze, and it only took Evbo a few heartbeats to recognize it as guilt . Evbo wanted to believe it was regret for starting… Whatever they were doing, that was easier to stomach, but the whispers in the back of his mind made him think it was something far more sinister.
His anxieties melted away, however, when Seawatt connected their lips once again, finally starting to tug off Evbo’s jeans.
He could worry later.
Right now, he’ll just enjoy this.
