Work Text:
She couldn't sleep.
Rain sat up in her futon. She looked to her left, seeing Melody and Iris sleeping peacefully, and then Callie, who was holding Shio, and Marie in-between her and Summer, most likely to protect them from the smallfry.
She looked to her right, and saw the members of Deep Cut in a makeshift bed of blankets and pillows, Shiver and Frye curled up to Big Man, and Pearl, who was spread out over both her and Marina's futons, drooling on her girlfriend's pillow. Marina was nowhere to be seen.
Rain got out of her futon in confusion. It was then that she heard noises coming from the kitchen, and went to investigate.
"...Marina…?"
Marina squeaked in surprise. She let out a breath of relief when she saw who was behind her.
"Oh, it's just you, Rain."
"...What are you doing up so late…?"
Marina awkwardly dealt with the whistling kettle as she answered.
"I- uh- I couldn't sleep, so I made some tea. I hope you don't mind."
Rain hesitated before shaking her head.
"It's fine. I couldn't sleep either."
Marina brought her attention back to the kettle, pouring two mugs. She slid one towards Rain, and she took a sip.
"Rain, do you have a dream?"
Rain choked on her tea, her eyes widening. Where did that come from?
"U-um not really…" she coughed out. "What about you…?"
Marina hummed and looked down at her teacup fondly.
"I want… to be able to keep making all kinds of songs and singing with Pearl. Forever. That's my dream."
Rain smiled. "You're very close friends, aren't you?"
Marina laughed. Rain looked at her in innocent confusion, her head tilted to the left.
"Y-Yeah! Such good friends, that we're getting married soon, actually." Marina said, trying to stifle her laughter.
Rain gasped.
"Really?! Congratulations!"
Marina smiled at her cheery demeanor.
"Thank you. You can be the flower girl, if you want."
"I think I'm a little too old for that…"
Marina giggled.
"Maybe…"
They slipped into a comfortable silence for a while after that. Rain spoke up again.
"Marina? Even if I did have a dream, I don't think it would ever come true…"
"Why's that?"
"It's just- It's me… so I have a feeling it won't be very realistic…"
"Are dreams supposed to be realistic?"
"Huh?"
Marina leaned against the counter and took a sip of her tea before continuing.
"Dreams should be something that you work towards. No matter how unrealistic they seem now, you might be able to achieve something wonderful someday if you try your best."
She took another sip.
"At least… that's what I think."
Rain looked down at her own mug, thinking about what she said.
"Maybe… maybe one day…"
She looked up at the starry night sky.
"I'll find a dream of my own…"
