Chapter Text

The last name Lim has been an ever-present shadow in my life from the very moment I inherited it, lingering behind me and constantly associated with my parents. It has never truly been my own. Their long standing reputation casts a long shadow, and as a result, I am often seen through the lens of their image rather than as an individual in my own right. Whether the press portrays them positively or negatively, that perception inevitably spills over onto me, shaping how I am viewed and judged by others. The impact of their name and legacy often overshadows my personal identity, making it challenging to be recognized for who I truly am.

Having spent my entire life under the intense glare of the limelight, I never anticipated that I would find myself in this position, doing what I’m doing now. From a very young age, I was accustomed to living in the spotlight, with the media constantly buzzing around me and my parents' prominence ensuring that our lives were always in the public eye. Despite the constant attention and scrutiny, I’ve navigated through the complexities of this world, and now, here I am, standing firmly in the midst of it all.

I still cherish the memory of the moment I first asked Gianna out—her smile was like a burst of sunshine that instantly brightened my day. I can vividly recall the sweet blush that gently crept up her cheeks, a subtle sign of her joy that she tried to hide behind a shy, yet radiant, smile. Even now, there are times when I find myself questioning whether I truly deserve her—whether I am worthy of such a remarkable and pure soul as my wife. But, despite these moments of self-doubt, Gianna has an uncanny ability to sense when I’m feeling insecure. Over the years, she has been my rock, always there to offer reassurance and remind me of her unwavering love. She continuously affirms that she chose me, values our relationship beyond measure, and would never wish for anyone else but me by her side.

I don’t believe in magic, but there’s something undeniably enchanting about what we share. Even though we’re young and have known each other for only a few months, I was certain from the start that no one else could ever compare. Gianna, my beautiful wife, is a picture of tenderness and strength in ways I never thought possible. I would go to any lengths for her—even risk my own life—because she means everything to me. She is truly mine, and I am hers. While she may not be very talkative around others, with me she opens up completely, freely sharing her thoughts. She tells me about her family, her work, the books she’s reading, and every little detail that crosses her mind. In return, I share everything with her as well. I can’t fathom ever wanting someone else, as that would be impossible. Gianna is perfection itself. It’s frustrating that we have to keep our relationship under wraps because I want nothing more than to shout it from the rooftops and let the world know that this incredible woman is my wife. But, for now, that’s not something I can do.

My fear is that revealing our relationship will fundamentally alter Gianna’s otherwise serene life. The media’s influence is unpredictable and often overwhelming, and I worry about the upheaval and potential backlash that could disrupt her peace. I’m anxious about the possibility of her being subjected to negativity and scrutiny that could push her back into a more challenging place. Although Gianna has been incredibly supportive and assures me that she’s ready for this step whenever I am, and that our bond can weather any storm, I still find myself hesitant. I want to be sure I’m in the right mental space to handle the public attention because I’m genuinely excited to proudly introduce her to everyone and celebrate our love.

Right now, I’m nestled in Gianna’s kitchen, happily engaged in the simple task of cooking breakfast. The morning sun bathes the space in a warm, golden light that filters through the windows, creating a tranquil and inviting atmosphere. The gentle hum of a familiar song drifts from the radio on the counter, blending seamlessly with the soft, melodic chirping of birds just outside. As I expertly flip another pancake, I can't help but relish the comfort of my attire—a casual sports bra and boxer shorts. These are the “comfort clothes” that Gianna has thoughtfully kept for me at her condo, ensuring that I feel right at home whenever I visit.

What adds an extra layer of affection to this serene morning is the realization of how Gianna cherishes our connection in the smallest, most heartfelt ways. She has a collection of my hoodies that she’s lovingly appropriated from my wardrobe. Each one serves as a tangible reminder of me, and she has shared that these hoodies offer her a sense of closeness and comfort when I’m not around. She once said to me, “When I need you the most and you’re halfway across the world, I will have your scent.” This simple yet profound sentiment makes my heart swell. It’s incredibly endearing to know that even my scent, captured in those hoodies, provides her with comfort and a feeling of connection when we’re apart.

These little gestures, combined with the tranquility of the morning, make me reflect on the depth of our relationship. They remind me of the special bond we share, one that’s marked by both the grand and the everyday moments. It’s in these small, personal details that our love truly shines, making even the most routine mornings feel extraordinary.

“What on earth are you doing in my sister’s apartment?” The sharp, incredulous shout made me flinch and turn around in alarm. There, in the doorway, stood her wife’s sister Aiyana and her girlfriend, Malia. I raised an eyebrow in confusion and replied, “Uh, nagluluto ng pancakes?”

Aiyana’s eyes narrowed into a fierce glare, while Malia, leaning casually against the doorframe, wore a smug smirk. “More like, anong ginagawa mo in baby Gianna’s apartment half-naked?” Malia chimed in, clearly amused by the situation.

I sighed and rolled my eyes, trying to stay nonchalant. “Still, nagluluto ng pancakes,” I answered, not really phased by their reactions.

Before either of them could say anything further, a loud thud echoed through the apartment. Moments later, Gianna burst out of her bedroom, wearing nothing but my white long-sleeve shirt from last night and a pair of panties. Her face was a picture of alarm as she spotted me, and she quickly called out, “MACE, ARE YOU OKAY?”

Gianna’s concern was palpable, but her gaze shifted abruptly to her sister and Malia, and she froze in place. The sight of her sister standing there, coupled with the disheveled state of her attire, made for an awkward and surprising tableau. The room fell silent for a heartbeat as Gianna’s expression shifted from worry to sheer embarrassment, her cheeks flushing a deep red as she processed the scene before her.

“Ate?! Ate Malia?!”

I couldn’t help but smile as I looked at my adorably dorky yet undeniably sexy wife. Her cheeks were flushed a delicate red, a charming contrast to the tousled mess of her hair, which was a clear testament to the passionate night we had shared. The marks I had left on her neck and body, though still fresh and not fully healed, served as unmistakable reminders of our intimate connection. It was evident that we had both missed each other intensely.

Gianna looked utterly spent, her exhaustion apparent after our countless moments of love making throughout the night. This deep weariness explained why she was still nestled in bed at this late hour. Normally, she would be the one gently waking me up, having already prepared a delicious breakfast to start our day. But today, the usual routine was upended. Instead of her cheerful morning presence and the aroma of breakfast wafting through the apartment, I found her still fast asleep, catching up on the much-needed rest after the intense and affectionate night we had shared.

“Ikaw Gi ha, pinapahanga mo ko,” Malia remarked with a tone of awe. Yana shot a sharp, disapproving look at her girlfriend, prompting Malia to immediately raise her hands in a gesture of surrender. “What? I’m just saying, pareho silang maganda, pero di ko inexpect ang inosente and little Gianna to bag THE Athena Lim,” Malia quickly added in her defense.

Gianna, standing nearby, shot a sharp glare at Malia, her lips forming a pout as she reacted to the comment. The tension in the room was palpable, with her expression clearly showing her irritation and displeasure at the offhand remark about her and Athena Lim, the superstar. Despite the playful tone in Malia’s voice, the compliment was mixed with a hint of surprise that didn’t sit well with Gianna.

“Izzy? What in the world is going on here? Anong ginagawa ng artistang yan dito?” Yana’s voice cut through the confusion as she turned to her sister, who was fidgeting with her wedding ring. The air was thick with tension as Yana’s bewildered gaze fixed on Gianna.

Gianna took a deep breath before beginning her explanation. “Macy and I first met during my second year of college. It was semester break, and I was in Singapore—”

Yana’s eyes widened in surprise. “You went to Singapore? Kelan pa? Bakit hindi ko man lang alam?” she interrupted, clearly taken aback by the revelation.

Gianna glanced over at me, seeking my approval to continue, and I gave her a reassuring nod. Deciding it was best to address the situation with some calm, I excused myself to the bedroom. I quickly dressed, then retrieved a soft blanket to drape over Gianna, hoping it would provide some comfort and privacy.

Returning to the living area, I gently placed the blanket over her shoulders and offered a tender squeeze of reassurance. I leaned in to give her a soft kiss on the top of her head, silently conveying my support. With Gianna now comfortably covered, I went back to the kitchen to prepare coffee for everyone. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee would hopefully help to diffuse the tension and offer a moment of calm as we navigated through the unfolding conversation.

“So ano? Naghihintay ako ng explanation mo.” Yana said pointedly.

With a heavy sigh, Gianna resumed her explanation. “Oo, nagpunta akong Singapore. And the truth is, masyado kang busy mag party with your friends that you didn’t even realize I was gone.” Her voice carried a mix of resignation and hurt as she spoke, her gaze dropping to the floor. A single tear traced a path down her cheek, highlighting the depth of her emotion, but she quickly wiped it away.

Yana, taken aback, stood there with her mouth slightly agape, clearly stunned by the revelation. Her expression was one of disbelief and shock as she processed the gravity of Gianna's words. The unexpected confession hung heavily in the air, underscoring the disconnect and unspoken grievances between them.

“Nakapag desisyon akong pumunta ng Singapore to unwind, para makalaya sa stress ng semester at sa mga taong nakapaligid sakin. I was overwhelmed and I needed time to clear my mind. I needed some time for myself para di ko masira ang sarili ko,” Gianna explained, her voice tinged with a mix of nostalgia and self-reflection. “Habang nanon ako, masyado akong lutang kaya di ko napansin si Macy, nagkabanggaan kami at natapunan ko siya ng iced coffee sa damit niya.”

A gentle smile formed on my lips as our eyes met, and I nodded encouragingly for her to go on. Gianna continued, “Nag-offer ako agad na ipa-dry clean namin yung shirt niya para makabawi, but she declined. Instead, she asked for my phone number.”

The memory seemed to bring a warm glow to Gianna’s face, and her smile was a soft reminder of how that chance encounter had led to something meaningful.

Yana quickly turned her head to glance at me, then back to Gianna, her expression a mix of curiosity and surprise. Gianna continued, “After that initial meeting, palagi na kami nag-uusap and met up a few times during the rest of my trip. Then bigla nalang siya nawala and when the time came na kailangan ko na umuwi, akala ko hindi ko na siya ulit makikita. Hindi din naman ako aware na sikat pala siya kasi diba hindi ako madalas mag open ng social media.”

She paused, a soft smile playing on her lips as she reminisced. “But as it turns out, fate had other plans. Nagkita ulit kami sa cafe malapit sa school, and in a rather ironic twist, natapunan ko nanaman siya ng iced coffee. Pero this time, when I offered to have it cleaned, sabi niya tatanggapin niya lang daw if pumayag ako for a date, so I did. That marked the beginning of our relationship, which grew deeper and more meaningful from that point forward.”

“Does she know?” Yana asked, her voice tinged with concern. I sighed deeply as I approached, carrying the coffee and placing it gently on the table in front of them. “Yes, I’m aware,” I replied. “Pero hindi niya sinabi sakin directly; I discovered it on my own.”

Malia’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Paano mo nalaman? Medyo matagal na din nung huli niyang ginawa yon.”

I turned to look at my wife, noticing her fidgeting with her wedding ring. To offer her some comfort, I gently took her hand in mine. “Yes matagal na, but that specific day, they were still quite raw. We were hanging out as usual sa condo ko, and she seemed unusually distant. I knew her well enough to know na she likes to be close and hugged when she was feeling down, so I reached out to her. When she flinched, umangat ng kaunti yung hoodie niya, and that’s when I noticed the fresh cuts on her skin.”

I gave her hand a reassuring squeeze, hoping to convey my support and understanding as I recounted the painful discovery.

I glanced at her, gauging whether I should proceed with the story, sensing the tension radiating from her beside me. She offered a small, reassuring nod, silently encouraging me to continue. “Hindi pa ako aware of her past at the time,” I began, my voice steady despite the emotional weight of the subject. “When Belle realized na napansin ko, she tried to distance herself and expressed how she didn’t want me to leave her as well. She said that everyone had been leaving her, and it was like heart breaking na makita siyang nasasaktan while she was saying those things.”

The gravity of her words was palpable, and I could feel the deep pain underlying her admission. It was clear that the vulnerability she showed in that moment had been profoundly affecting, and sharing it now only served to highlight the emotional depth of our experience together.

“Then, while I was still going on and on,” Gianna recounted, her eyes softening with the memory, “Lumapit ka unti-unti at niyakap mo ko ng mahigpit. Sabi mo na I would never have to face being truly alone again.”

I couldn’t help but smirk at the recollection. “You’re going to be stuck with me forever,” I teased gently, adding a touch of playfulness to the moment.

Malia, observing us closely, glanced from our intertwined hands to our faces, curiosity evident in her expression. “So, Gaano katagal na kayong kasal?” she inquired, eager to understand the depth of our relationship.

At this, Yana nearly choked on her coffee, her eyes darting between us in disbelief. “ANO?!” she exclaimed, clearly stunned by the revelation. Her reaction underscored the unexpected nature of the news, adding a layer of surprise and intrigue to the conversation.

“Three years, six months, and twenty-eight days,” I answered with a note of confidence. Yana and Malia both whipped their heads around to look at me, their expressions a mix of shock and curiosity. Yana’s mouth hung open in disbelief as she turned back to her sister. “How could you not tell me you’re married? Sino pang iba may alam nito? Si mama?” she demanded, her tone a mix of hurt and confusion.

Gianna looked down, her gaze dropping to our clasped hands as she nervously fiddled with her wedding ring. “Si Cali, best friend ni Macy, tapos si Sydney, yung roommate ko at the time. We needed someone to cover for us while we were on our…”

“Honeymoon,” I finished for her, noting her embarrassment, especially given that we were discussing this with her sister.

Malia raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. “So hindi na Arceta ang surname mo?” she asked, trying to piece together the details.

Yana shot Malia an incredulous look. “Syempre Arceta pa din siya.” she retorted, clearly upset by the misunderstanding. Gianna’s face turned a deep shade of red, and she managed to stammer out, “Three years na akong hindi Arceta, ate.”

Yana’s eyes widened in astonishment as she turned her gaze back to her sister. “Bakit hindi mo sinabi sa akin? You could have just said, ‘Hey Ate Yana, that artist from Dreamboat Entertainment? Kasal na nga pala ako sa kanya.” Yana huffed in frustration, clearly feeling left out of an important part of her sister’s life.

Gianna’s voice was tinged with sadness as she responded, “I’m sorry ate, pero kilala na kasi kita. I didn’t want you to judge Macy dahil lang sa pamilya niya, tapos nung tumagal pa lalo, nahirapan na din ako i-bring up pa.”

The weight of her words hung in the air, and I could see the pain and regret in her eyes. It was clear that the secrecy had been a source of tension and that the truth was more complicated than anyone had anticipated.

“Masisisi mo ba ako? Izzy, she’s a Lim,” Yana sighed heavily, her tone filled with exasperation. Her words seemed to carry a weight of judgment that was clearly aimed at Gianna’s choice of partner. Gianna, having clearly reached her limit, snapped back with a blend of frustration and hurt. “Ako din, Ate! Lim na ako. Pinakasalan ko si Macy and I took her last name. I’m a Lim now, so ngayon ihahate mo na din ako? Paano yung mga magiging future pamangkin mo? Ihahate mo din ba sila? Kasi lahat kami susunod sa surname ng nanay nila.”

Her voice trembled slightly with the intensity of her emotions. Gianna’s anger was palpable as she confronted her sister, her face flushed and eyes brimming with tears. The room seemed to hold its breath as she continued, her frustration making her voice louder and more desperate.

Yana’s eyes dropped to the floor, her expression one of deep shame and regret. The weight of Gianna’s words clearly struck a chord, and she seemed overwhelmed by the confrontation. Seeing Gianna standing there, clearly upset and standing up in her agitation, I felt a strong urge to intervene and offer comfort.

I moved swiftly to her side, wrapping my arms around her in a supportive embrace. My presence was meant to offer solace and stability in the midst of her emotional storm. “Shhh, it’s okay, baby. Just take a deep breath,” I whispered soothingly, gently urging her to sit back down. My voice was soft and calming, intended to help her regain her composure and to remind her that she wasn’t alone.

As she settled back into her seat, I held her close, my arms a protective shield against the tumult of the situation. I could feel the tension in her shoulders slowly easing as she took deep breaths, trying to calm herself. The room was quiet now, the confrontation giving way to a more reflective, somber atmosphere. I knew that this moment was not just about resolving an argument but also about acknowledging the pain and disappointment that had surfaced.

Yana looked up slowly, her face reflecting the impact of Gianna’s heartfelt plea. The weight of the situation was clear, and I hoped that the embrace I provided would help bridge the gap of misunderstanding that had emerged between them. In the silence that followed, it was evident that the emotional turmoil was beginning to give way to a more introspective dialogue.

“Of course, I will always love you, Izzy.” Yana said with a hint of sadness in her voice. “Pero hindi ko kasi maintindihan kung bakit mo pinili mahpalit ng last name. You were so happy when we finally adopted you and finally became an Arceta.” Her expression was one of genuine confusion and disappointment.

As Yana spoke, I held Gianna close, resting my cheek against her head and placing gentle kisses on her hair to offer comfort. “I’ve got you, baby. Walang mangyayare as long as I’m here. I’m not going anywhere,” I murmured, trying to reassure her with my presence and support. Gianna took a deep breath, gathering her composure, and then turned back to face her sister, still holding onto my hand tightly for support.

“Naalala mo pa ba yung huli nating paguusap nung 3rd year na ako?” Gianna asked, her voice steady but carrying a hint of nostalgia. Yana furrowed her brow and shook her head, clearly unsure of what Gianna was referring to.

The moment held a palpable tension as Gianna waited for her sister's response, her eyes reflecting a mixture of hope and apprehension. The weight of the past conversation seemed to hang in the air, and it was clear that this was a crucial point in their discussion, one that Gianna felt was important to revisit in order to bridge the gap that had formed between them.

“You were so absorbed in your Master’s program kayak hindi kita masyado inaabala. Pero one night nung makatapos kayo magdefense ng thesis mo, lumabas kayo para magparty kasama yung mga kaibigan mo. Tumawag ka sakin ng lasing mga bandang 3 am. And that call was a turning point. You started listing all the reasons why it was my fault that our parents had separated, sabi mo hindi ko deserve maging Arceta dahil sa mga issues ko sa buhay. Kaya nasira ang pamilya natin dahil paulit ulit akong may problema at nagsawa na sina mama at papa.

I was shattered by your words. She comforted me in a way that felt almost magical. Noong 5 a.m. na, habang nakahiga kami, bumulong siya na gusto niya akong pakasalan. Her words were filled with a kind of devotion and promise that felt like something out of a fairy tale. She spoke of a love so profound and enduring that it made me believe in the impossible.

The next day, nag-ayos agad si Macy ng mga kailangan namin. She arranged for our visa to be processed and booked the earliest flight papuntang U.S. Kahit na mabilis ang pangyayare sigurado ako sa kanya and then, we were married.

Gianna’s voice trembled with the weight of her confession. The story she shared revealed the depth of her pain and the sacrifices she made in the face of familial expectations and personal heartbreak. Her words carried a mix of sorrow, resignation, and a longing for understanding, reflecting the emotional turmoil that had shaped her journey.

“Iz…” Yana murmured softly, clearly struggling to find the right words. Gianna, overwhelmed by the emotions of the moment, shook her head and buried her face deeper into my neck. Her voice was muffled as she continued, “Matagal na yon, sa past na, but you don’t get to say—”

“Shit” I continued for her which earned a smile from Malia when I sweared for my wife.

“—like that when you were the one na ayaw na sakin sa pamilya natin,” Gianna’s mumbling trailed off as I gently kissed her forehead, offering her a silent reassurance. My gaze shifted to Yana, whose face was a portrait of surprise and regret. The emotional weight of the conversation was clearly taking its toll on her. Her expression revealed a deep sense of guilt for how she had treated her younger sister, even though they were not biologically related.

I gave Yana a comforting smile, hoping to convey understanding and empathy. “Come here,” I said softly, inviting her to approach Gianna. The gesture was meant to bridge the gap between them, offering a chance for healing. It was important for them to talk things out, to address the hurt and misunderstandings so that this chapter of their lives could be resolved. The goal was to move forward from the pain and to restore their familial bond, regardless of the differences that had come between them.

Yana stood at a crossroads, her emotions visibly conflicted. Fortunately, her girlfriend was there, offering a comforting presence and gently encouraging her to reach out to her younger sister. With a nod of support, Yana moved closer to Gianna, positioning herself on the other side of her sibling.

"Iz, tingin ka naman sakin oh," Yana began with a soft, pleading tone, her voice filled with sincerity and vulnerability.

Meanwhile, Macy, who had been quietly observing the tense interaction, decided it was time to take action. “Belle?” she called gently, nudging her wife’s shoulder to prompt her to turn and face her. Macy’s gaze flickered towards Yana and Malia, who were watching the scene unfold with keen interest.

"Tapusin ko na yung breakfast so we can eat. Usap muna kayo ni Ate Yana, okay?" Macy said, her voice warm but firm. She cast a meaningful look at Yana, a silent plea for her to handle the situation delicately and not cause further heartache for her wife.

“I’ll be in the kitchen if you need me,” Macy added, her tone encouraging yet gentle. She carefully adjusted the blanket around Gianna, offering a final, reassuring squeeze to her shoulders before standing up. With a final glance at the sisters, Macy walked out of the living room, followed closely by Malia. Sensing the need for privacy, accompanied Macy, understanding the importance of giving the sisters the space they needed to mend their relationship.

Yana let out a heavy sigh, running her fingers through her disheveled hair as she hesitated before settling on the opposite end of the couch from her sister. She inched closer, unsure whether reaching out would be welcomed, but recognizing the need to bridge the gap between them. Breaking the uneasy silence, she spoke with a tone full of regret and determination, "I know it might be too late for some things, pero I want you to know na hindi kita iiwan kagaya ng iniisip mo. I truly mean it."

Gianna, still wrapped in her blanket and clearly struggling with the memories, responded with a note of melancholy. "Akala ko din ate, not until that night..." Her voice trailed off, echoing the same defeated tone she had previously shown, as she relived the painful memories.

"Iz, I am so sorry," Yana continued, her voice cracking with emotion. "Hindi ko dapat sinabi ang mga bagay na yon. They were nothing but drunken outbursts that I directed at you. Hindi mo kasalanan ang nangyare kay Mama and Papa, si papa yung nag-cheat hindi ikaw. I was just young and foolish, and nilabas ko yung galit ko sayo in a way that was completely unjust. I even went so far as to say you didn’t deserve the family name, which was wrong. Mali ako, mali ko yon." The guilt in Yana’s voice was palpable as she watched Gianna curl up tighter under her blanket, trying to find comfort.

“Ni hindi mo man lang masabi sa harap ko mismo," Gianna said softly, her eyes tightly shut. She was battling to keep her tears at bay, feeling as if opening her eyes would make the tears come rushing out. It had been years since that night, and she had thought she had moved past it. But revisiting the pain in this moment was unexpectedly overwhelming and hurtful. The emotional weight of the conversation had taken her by surprise, revealing just how deeply the past still affected her.

Malia leaned against the doorway, her gaze fixed on Macy as she moved efficiently around the kitchen, gathering ingredients from various cupboards to resume preparing breakfast. The morning light filtered through the windows, casting a warm glow over Macy’s focused efforts.

“Do you think they’re okay in there?”Malia asked, her voice laced with concern.

“I’m not sure about Yana,” Macy replied, her back turned as she skillfully flipped another pancake. “Hindi ko siya gaano kakilala, just some stories. But I do know that Belle isn’t okay, lalo na ngayon that these old feelings have resurfaced.” She continued worrying about her wife, placing the golden pancakes onto a plate and starting to make tea for Gianna. “People often forget how sensitive she really is. I’m guilty of that myself. She might appear strong on the outside, but her heart is just as fragile as anyone else's, maybe even more so.”

As Macy continued her tasks, she didn’t immediately notice Malia’s soft smile as she watched her.

“Oh bakit ganyan ka makatingin sakin?” Macy asked, turning her head slightly towards Malia.

“I just find it hard to believe that Athena Lim, the famous pop star, is being so domestic and happy,” Malia responded with a teasing grin. “Nasanay lang ako sa mga sinasabi ng news tungkol sayo, parang iba yung Athena Lim na asawa ni Gianna. This side of you suits you better.”

“Thanks, I guess?” Macy said, her tone light as she poured hot water into a mug, adding a teabag. Malia, feeling a bit shy, asked another question.

“Kamusta si Gi when you saw her that night?”

“She kept repeating things like ‘Ayaw na ni ate sakin’ and ‘iniiwan nila akong lahat,’ then questioning her own worth,” Macy said, her voice tinged with sadness. “It was truly heartbreaking. She felt abandoned by her sister.” She finished her explanation by turning her attention back to the tea, adding a bit of honey before removing the teabag.

“You know I didn’t mean what I said, right?” Yana said softly, her voice tinged with remorse as she ran a hand through her hair once more. “I never truly meant it. I was just so angry and lashed out.”

She struggled to find the right words to mend the rift between them. This was unlike anything she had ever experienced with her sister. Yana had always known Gianna to be joyful and forgiving, her little sister who admired her with a kind of reverence, as if she were a hero in Gianna’s eyes.

But now, Gianna was far from her usual self. She wasn’t even angry; she seemed utterly deflated, her sadness palpable and deep. This shift was distressing for Yana. She wasn’t accustomed to seeing Gianna so openly vulnerable and hurt, and the current situation was only exacerbating the problem.

Yana could sense the immense pain her sister was enduring, a pain she knew was largely her own doing. The hurtful words she had spoken and the actions she had taken were responsible for this sorrow. She understood that a significant part of Gianna’s distress was because of her, and that realization weighed heavily on her heart.

“Tama naman yung mga sinabi mo ate,” Gianna began, her voice heavy with a mix of resignation and vulnerability. “Hindi naman talaga ako part of the family. Hindi ako yung hiningi mo kay Lord, pero ako yung inampon ng pamilya mo. I was just the awkward, troublesome adoptive sister with a lot of baggage. Sure, we grew up together and learned to navigate our relationship, pero sa kaloob-looban, I’m still the same person I was when we first met—the girl with issues your family decided to take on. I feel like I’ve only caused problems, ruined things for you and your family. Tama ka ate—I don’t truly belong, and siguro nga hindi ko talaga deserve maging part ng pamilya.”

Gianna’s confession hung in the air, a mix of relief and heartbreak evident in her eyes. It was as if she had finally released a burden she’d carried for too long, yet the weight of her words seemed to add a fresh layer of sadness.

“No, Izzy, hindi yan totoo,” Yana responded immediately, her voice trembling with disbelief and concern. She had no idea how deeply her words had cut her younger sister, nor how profoundly they had affected her. “Please, look at me,” she urged gently, moving closer to her sister and positioning herself so they were at eye level. She took Gianna’s hand in her own, squeezing it with a reassuring firmness until Gianna slowly met her gaze.

“Ikaw ang pamilya ko, always. Yes, you came with issues and we had our challenges, pero hindi ko babaguhin lahat ng nangyare ever since dumating ka sa buhay namin. Hindi lang kita kapatid; you’re my best friend, my food buddy, my companion in everything. Sobramg mahal na mahal ka ni ate, and I’m so sorry for making you feel like I don’t. I’m so, so sorry for making you ever doubt that, even for a second.” Yana’s eyes filled with tears as she spoke, seeing the tears streaming down Gianna’s face only deepening her own.

“Ang sakit sakit ate,” Gianna’s voice trembled as she spoke through her tears, her sobs breaking her words into fragmented gasps. “I’m so sorry kung kinailangan mo kong alagaan dahil sa mga iniisip ko, sa mga issues ko, simula nung bata pa tayo. I’m really, really sorry.” Her emotions overwhelmed her, and she pulled her hand away, using it to cover her face as she cried uncontrollably. Her sobs were so intense that she began to cough and choke on her own tears, her body shaking with the strain of her grief and exhaustion.

“Hey no, Izzy, come here,” Yana said gently but urgently, her eyes filled with concern as she saw her sister’s distress. She moved swiftly to her sister’s side, pulling her into a comforting embrace. “Take some deep breaths, okay?” Yana instructed softly, wrapping her arms around Gianna and pulling her close. She gently patted Gianna’s back, trying to help her calm her breathing and clear her airways as the force of her crying continued to make her cough.

“Gianna Isabelle Arceta is right here, and she is more than good enough,” Yana said with heartfelt conviction, pointing to Gianna’s chest as she spoke. “Yung Izzy na kilala ko malakas. You’ve survived so much, including all the bullying and hardships you’ve faced. You’re determined kasi hindi ka sumuko at hindi mo kami iniwan despite everything your mind is saying. You are kind, beautiful, intelligent, loyal, loving, and amazing—so amazing na nauubusan na ako ng adjectives to describe you. You’re my little sister, and hindi kita ipagpapalit sa kahit na ano man.”

Yana’s voice softened as she continued, her chin resting gently on Gianna’s head. “You are you, and you are more than good enough. If anything, it’s us who haven’t been good enough for you. But that’s going to change. Andito na si ate, fully aware of my mistakes, and I promise you, hinding hindi kita iiwan.” Yana rocked back and forth with Gianna cradled in her arms, her sister’s cries muffled against her chest, as she held her close, offering her all the comfort and love she could.

“Mahal na mahal ka ni ate, Izzy,” Yana murmured repeatedly, her voice gentle and soothing as she held her sister close. She made no effort to hide the tenderness in her tone, letting Gianna cry into her shoulder. The warmth and affection between the two was palpable, a comforting embrace that spoke volumes more than words ever could. Macy and Malia, watching from a short distance, couldn’t help but smile at the heartwarming sight of the sisters, reunited and finding solace in each other's arms.

Macy approached them with a soft smile, her presence a calming force. She reached out and rubbed Gianna’s back, seeing the intensity of her wife’s sobs gradually ease. It was a relief to see the emotional barrier breaking down and the family beginning to heal from the pain that had lingered too long. “Breakfast is ready, my love,” Macy said warmly, her voice filled with affection as she addressed everyone. “Let’s head to the dining room and share a meal together as a family.” Her words were a gentle invitation, a way to celebrate their renewed connection and to move forward from the hurt they had all experienced.

After a morning filled with emotional revelations and heartfelt reconciliation, the atmosphere in Gianna’s condo had shifted dramatically. The earlier tension had dissipated, replaced by a comforting sense of renewal. The brunch they had shared—a mix of favorite comfort foods and warm conversation—had served as a meaningful gesture, bringing the family closer together and marking the beginning of a new chapter. The simple act of sharing a meal had transformed into a powerful symbol of mending strained relationships and forging ahead.

Yana and Malia had said their goodbyes, leaving Gianna and Macy to themselves. They promised to stay in touch more frequently and to continue nurturing their relationships. The sisters shared a heartfelt farewell, with Yana enveloping her little sister in a tight embrace. Her whispered words, “I love you and talk to you soon,” conveyed the depth of her emotions and the hope for their continued connection. As they parted ways, the sense of understanding and forgiveness seemed to linger in the air.

Back in their own space, Gianna and Macy retreated to the sanctuary of their bedroom. Despite the emotional weight of the morning, it was barely noon, and Belle found herself exhausted both physically and emotionally. The events of the day had taken a toll, and she sought solace in the familiar comfort of her wife’s embrace. They lay there, entangled in each other’s arms, the softness of the bed beneath them providing a welcome contrast to the earlier intensity.

Gianna, her head resting on Macy’s shoulder, looked up with a weary but grateful expression. “Thanks for being here, Babi,” she said, her voice tinged with sincere appreciation. “It really means a lot to me.”

Macy, her eyes twinkling with warmth, gazed down at her wife with a tender smile. “It’s my pleasure, my love,” she replied softly, her voice filled with affection. “I’m just glad I could be here to support you. You’re everything to me.”

She leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to Gianna’s lips, the simple act of affection underscoring the bond they shared. The room was now bathed in a calming quiet, the earlier emotional turbulence giving way to a soothing sense of contentment.

As they lay together, wrapped in the cocoon of their shared warmth, Macy’s playful side emerged. “So, Mrs. Lim…” she began, a mischievous glint in her eye. Belle looked up, intrigued by the sudden change in tone.

Macy continued, her smile widening. “You talked about our future family earlier. I was just wondering—how many kids do you think we should have?”

Gianna’s eyes sparkled with amusement as she giggled, her exhaustion momentarily forgotten in the face of Macy’s playful curiosity. “Aysus, are we planning our future family now?” she teased, her voice light and affectionate.

Macy nodded, her gaze full of adoration. “Well, we might as well start dreaming, right? I want to know what kind of future we’re going to build together.”

Gianna snuggled closer, her laughter mingling with Macy’s. “Hmm, let’s see… siguro unahin muna natin tumira sa iisang bubong. What do you think?”

Macy’s eyes danced with excitement. “Okay maybe that first. Do you want us to stay here or my condo? Or we could buy a house?”

Gianna chuckled, her heart lifting at the thought. “Anywhere as long as I’m with you.”

The conversation continued, filled with lighthearted speculation and joyful laughter. They discussed names, imagined family vacations, and dreamt of the life they would build together. Their shared dreams provided a comforting contrast to the earlier strains, filling the room with a sense of hope and excitement for the future.

As they talked, their hands intertwined, and their laughter echoed softly in the room, it was clear that despite the challenges they faced, their love for each other remained a constant source of strength and joy. The morning’s emotional upheavals had given way to a peaceful afternoon, and Macy and Gianna embraced the promise of a bright and loving future together.
