Chapter Text
Laying on its trainer’s bed, an Eevee looks curiously at the assortment of rocks framed on the wall. They’re lined up horizontally, placed carefully in their own individual space, cushioned with gray foam and sealed behind glass inside a shadow box frame. It’s an impressive collection, from the Moon stones originating from Mt. Moon to the Dawn stones imported from Sinnoh. It’s no surprise the reflectiveness and vibrance captivate the petite Pokemon. What exactly is it thinking about?
Arranged in the colors of the rainbow, the Fire stone is the first with eyes set upon it. The rock is mostly a translucent yellow, the same as the sky at sunset, but a dash of orange in the center gives the impression of a burning flame, contained for shining too bright. Perhaps the Eevee imagines itself with a mane of fur the same color as the morning sun, its body the same bright orange it stares into. When it looks at the fiery core, does it envision being able to spit that same fire from its mouth?
Fire ignites where lightning strikes. Just looking at the bolt of lightning encased inside the Thunder stone makes the Eevee’s fur tingle. What a feeling it would be, to dash through fields of grass at lightning speed, wind blowing through sharp quills as thunder booms above. Rather than staying inside and fearing lightning strikes, maybe the Eevee wants to run out and embrace the storm, chasing storm clouds while electricity courses through its veins.
Following claps of thunder comes downpours of rain. The Water stone, colored a deep blue, contains large air bubbles trapped inside, evoking a sense of something alive—something breathing beneath the depths of the ocean. Maybe the Eevee dreams of meeting those mysterious creatures of the depths, fur being replaced with scales, and gills forming on blue skin, its tail becoming segmented to glide alongside fish Pokemon.
However, even water freezes over once winter arrives. The snowflake encased inside the Ice stone makes the Eevee shiver, reminded of harsh winters from the past. Its fur coat bundles it up for the colder months, but it longs to play in the snow without risk, able to embrace chilling weather at its harshest. Rather than have its energy sapped away by the cold, it thinks of being revitalized from frolicking in the hail.
The Eevee cannot be contained in its thoughts for too long though, as its eyes flicker to the last stone it finds attractive. The Leaf stone is a simple, fossilized plant from a time long past. Though dusted clean before being displayed, it’s still reminiscent of the mossy, dirt covered stones of the forest, left untouched by humans for years. The Eevee stretches its body out towards the stone, pretending its sunbathing in the scattered light that enters through the gaps of the forest trees. How invigorating it would be, to harness energy from the sun’s rays.
The Eevee’s future can unravel into endless possibilities, and each stone is proof of that. They provide insight to the wilder life of its ancestors, but perhaps it’s already content with the love and affection its trainer provides. Living a lavish life day and night, dressed in pretty ribbons and bows, and fed as many pokepuffs as it likes, it has no complaints. Such a strong bond could make Eevee undergo its own change, after all, love changes everyone, even Pokemon.
Oh, but such thoughts make poor Eevee quite sleepy. It yawns before curling up into its bushy tail, leaving the decision for another day, perhaps when it’s older.
