Chapter Text
First day at middle school, you are beside Izuku checking his hero notes.
written in such care and determination, you glide your hand over the thin cotton paper of the campus notebook. As you pass by each page, you put your hand over izuku’s own dream hero costume.
You can’t help but feel sad at him, without a quirk this costume would only find its place among display windows during halloween.
Being unbelievably immersed in his writing you fail to hear Izuku’s incoherent muttering about heroes and crackling sounds behind your neck.
The very second that you notice his presence behind him is when Izuku grabs the notebook from your hand and takes your hand in his hurriedly taking you away from the blonde.
He’s with two friends of his, that you’ve been used to since kindergarten.
As you walk quickly trying to accommodate to Izuku’s fast steps, you turn your head to see why he’s so alarmed.
Blood red, crimson eyes find their way over your shoulders, and he puts his hand over your school uniform.
And you cannot move.
He talks, talks and talks but you still aren’t in a state to understand what he’s saying.
While he’s muttering out words, izuku is behind you frozen in place.
and you start to feel heat radiating from your shoulder, and pain tingling.
He releases his hand from your right shoulder, with your shoulder now exposed after he used his quirk over your uniform. An entire hole in shape of his right hand greets you with a red mark over your shoulder. It didn’t hurt you much, no but that didn’t hide the mark over your skin. It wasn’t anything serious, so you’ve discarded the pain.
Upon realization, you take 3 slow steps backwards staring at the blonde’s face terrified.
Him and his two friends are laughing, entertained and Bakugou looks ready to deliver more burns to your uniform.
And once you notice his unusual grin all over his face alarming you for his next course of action, you turn around and run away hand in hand with Izuku.
His grin freezes in it’s place, and he signals his friends to get going.
Why were you friends with that quirkless loser anyways?
The first thing you do once escaped, was to head to the infirmary to treat your shoulder with izuku.
He stands there with his same old campus notebook in hand, questioning you in his head.
“ Why do you never get back at Kacchan’s attacks, y/n-chan? “
You tilt your head towards Izuku who put his notebook over the counter and is cutting bandages to tend to your wounds. You stay silent at first, then with a low voice as if he could hear you any second you reply:
“ I don’t know. “
This was a lie, you were aware why you couldn’t move once it’s him.
He had asserted his dominance way too early compared to other people from your class, since you and Izuku had known him for ages you already knew what he could do and what he couldn’t.
And maybe it’s because you are way too indulged that he would smash you to tiniest bits if you were to anger him further by using your quirk. Despite being a girl, he would take you as his equal and would not hold back.
That’s what scared you the most.
You take the blue collar out of your uniform to help Izuku wrap your wound and swipe the collar to reveal your shoulder.
“ Must have hurt, you should stand up for yourself! Especially when i can’t stand up for you..”
He said the last sentence a little quieter with a voice trembling. Knowing that he couldn’t save a classmate from just a bully must’ve hurt his ideals of being a hero.
“ It’s not that big, he’ll go to U.A once he’s done serving his time here anyways. You don’t need to worry for me, Midoriya-kun! “
You tried to speak in most cheerful voice, but failed anyways.
You both had to arrive late to class because he wanted to bandage your wounds, and once the teacher started the class you could feel the same heavy gaze lingering all over you even though you were distracted by all those who were asking what had happened to your uniform.
He let out a tch sound, listening to the teacher.
After all classes were over and Izuku and you were walking back to the neighbourhood, you had came to where your ways separated as both your houses were at separate places.
He waved you goodbye, and you thanked him again for the bandages while thinking of how you’ll explain the hand-shaped burn mark to your mother.
However, you were stopped by the same blonde who created it.
“ Oi! “
Your eyes jolted to his face, he didn’t seem as angry as he did before.
“ Walk! To the 7-Eleven! “
And of course, the one who made the request was Bakugou so you had no chance of rejecting. He walked beside you, with an awkward silence between the both of you.
Once you had arrived to the door, you waited.
And he was mad at you again, and he yelled.
“ Get inside, go to the damned freezers! “
And you obeyed again, as usual.
He was walking with you, and you were looking at the ice creams. In nearly all shapes and colours, you enjoyed them.
“ Buy one. Go on. “
He was surprisingly quieter this time, and you picked one of the popsicles with fruit flavour. There were two sticks inside the popsicle, and it was fairly big for you too.
He didn’t pick anything, but he forcibly took the popsicle from your hand and paid for it.
Now you were at the playground where you mostly spent your time at during kindergarten.
He opened the popsicle, and you were sure that he’d eat it all himself but he separated it into two pieces, offering you one.
Maybe this is his apology for this morning?
“ Don’t hang around that shitty, quirkless brat. “
You stayed silent, and Bakugou felt almost like he was monologuing the entire time.
“ And don’t fucking accept when he shares his bento with you. If i were to shit in my hands and offer that your ass it would’ve been healthier. “
He continued on and on about what you should do and don’t at this point, and you still listened to him because it felt interesting to see him not yelling at you.
“ And walk home with me instead. It’s good hero training for me. That little shit wouldn’t be able to protect you anyway. “
If you didn’t know Katsuki you would’ve thought that he was proposing to you.
But no, he just hated Izuku’s guts, you thought.
“ If i get a popsicle tomorrow, sure. “ you managed to let out.
You always talked in such small, quiet sentences and although at first Bakugou found it hard to understand he learned to like it time to time.
Once he was done with his popsicle, he stuck the stick of it to your backpack and went to his home walking in his usual manner.
And you cannot believe that you accepted walking home with your greatest fear.
And what you don't know is he's still following to make sure you're home, and not at Izuku's.
