Ordinary Confession

Summary:

"Does Kageyama-senshu prefer someone rebellious or an ideal daughter-in-law?" The woman repeated.

There was a brief silence settled between them, Tobio chose to turned his gaze away for a moment and his gaze instantly met Shoyo’s, who was still patiently waiting for him at the corner of the room. Kuroo stood right beside him, the older's arms crossed over his chest, his taller figure giving Tobio a warning look, as if advising him not to say anything that could cause trouble. Tobio chuckled softly, giving Shoyo a small smile before turning back to the reporter.

"Not an ideal daughter-in-law," He said, successfully made the reporter tilted her head in curiousity, "But an ideal son-in-law," He stated firmly soon after that, leaving the whole room gasped in shock.

Tobio might, or might not, cause a commotion with his (not-so) ordinary confession during Olympics.

Work Text:

Tobio huffed in frustration as his fingers swiped across his phone screen, his eyes meticulously scanning each news article his teammates had sent him. His lips instinctively formed a pout when he saw that his name was now trending on social media

He pouted harder when he receive messages from his fiance, Shoyo.

Dumbasshou:
Kuroo-san is on his way to your room
Dumbasshou:
Honestly, what were you thinking when you said that, bakageyama!!

Tobio frowned as he read the two messages, his fingers tapping lightly on the side of the bed. He closed his eyes, recalling the personal interview he had done a couple days ago, following the press conference with the entire Japanese National Team.

All this commotion stemmed from that brief interview.

Tobio vividly remembered someone calling his name as he was about to walk away with his teammates. When he turned his head, he saw a woman with a name tag indicating she was a reporter, accompanied by a cameraman.

"Could we please have a moment of your time, Kageyama-senshu?" the woman asked with a pleading look.

Initially, Tobio wanted to decline the request. He was exhausted from a 14-hour flight, plus the roughly 1-hour press conference held the same day. All he wanted at that moment was to rest in his room. However, hearing the reporter use a Japanese honorific softened his heart a little.

So, Tobio nodded, and his response was met with bright smiles from both the reporter and the cameraman. The interview started off casually, with the woman asking him about his daily routine as an athlete, tips for maintaining peak physical condition, and other common questions. Tobio didn't mind, he answered all the questions seriously, hoping the interview would end quickly.

But boy, was he wrong.

After he had answered all the initial questions, the woman posed another one that really took him by surprise.

"We hear that Kageyama-senshu and Miya-senshu are considered ‘hot setters’ in Japan and it's clear that you both have countless fans. One thing that fans are dying to know is, does Kageyama-senshu have a significant other?"

Tobio blinked a few times, processing the question. Sure, he had been asked similar questions before, but in the past, he had always deflected or politely declined to share details about his private life. But now, he had enough. He decided to put an end to it all by saying, "Yes, I do have a partner."

Tobio noticed the reporter's eyes widen, and he also saw the gazes of several people in the press room shift towards him after his statement. Tobio thought the reporter would be satisfied with his answer, but he, once again, was wrong. Because the woman followed up with another question soon after that.

"May we know Kageyama-senshu's ideal type, then?" She asked, "Does Kageyama-senshu prefer someone rebellious or an ideal daughter-in-law?" She continued with an innocent smile.

Tobio paused, his brow furrowing as he said, "Could you please repeat that?"

"Does Kageyama-senshu prefer someone rebellious or an ideal daughter-in-law?" The woman repeated.

There was a brief silence settled between them, Tobio chose to turned his gaze away for a moment and h is  gaze instantly met Shoyo’s, who was still patiently waiting for him at the corner of the room.

When he shifted his gaze to Shoyo again, he could see the redhead's face totally flushed while Kuroo seemed to rub his face roughly.

"Well, well, if this ain't the star of this year's olympics huuuh?"

Kuroo's voice snapped Tobio out of his thoughts. When he turned, his eyes met Kuroo's, along with Iwaizumi and Ushijima.

"Kuroo-san," Tobio greeted. "Iwaizumi-san, Ushijima-san," he added.

Iwaizumi and Ushijima nodded, while Kuroo stood with his hands on his hips, sighing heavily. "Have you seen the news?" Kuroo asked.

Tobio nodded, his head slightly bowed, there was a hint of guilt in his posture.

"So, you're aware that your name is now trending on four different social media platforms?"

Once again, Tobio nodded, swallowing hard. The calmness in Kuroo's voice made him uneasy given the situation's complexity.

When Kuroo sighed again, Tobio quickly looked up, he was ready to open his mouth to apologize for his impulsive actions, but Kuroo was quick to cut him off.

"You're lucky to have loyal fans willing to defend you," Kuroo said in the next moment, causing Tobio to furrow his brow in confusion.

"Articles about your interview yesterday are receiving a lot of positive reactions," Iwaizumi explained. "There are some negative comments, of course, but most of your fans are countering them and standing up for you."

Tobio held his breath, surprised that his fans were willing to stand up for him. A warm sensation filled his heart as he realized that there were many people supporting him now.

"Regardless of his sexual orientation, what matters is that Tobio is an expert setter. He's the number one setter in Japan, so why hate him just because he came out as gay?" Kuroo interjected, apparently quoting a comment from one of the articles he currently read through his phone.

"They're right. You are an excellent setter, Kageyama." Ushijima commented, "You being gay has nothing to do with your skill as a setter and the world knows that." Ushijima added, with Iwaizumi nodding in agreement.

Tobio nodded too, then he looked at Kuroo again, who was also staring at him. After a moment, Kuroo exhaled and nodded. "Yeah, sure. I'll handle it from here," Kuroo said with a dramatic face, "You go to practice and don't disappoint those who have fully supported you."

Tobio's smile widened at Kuroo's words. "I won't!" he exclaimed.

"Here comes our star!"

Yaku's voice greeted Tobio's ears as he entered the practice room, followed by the echoing laughter of his teammates.

"Ya finally made it, Tobio-kun," Atsumu chuckled, patting Tobio on the shoulder. "We've been getting bored teasing yer fiancé." He added with a mischievous grin.

Tobio sighed softly as he ignored his senior who was now laughing with the rest of his teammates. His eyes scanning for one specific redhead instead, who apparently was standing by the side of the court. His feet instinctively carried him toward the redhead, eliciting playful whistles from their teammates.

"What?" Tobio asked, raising his eyebrows when he saw Shoyo's frustrated and sulking expression.

The redhead huffed in return, "This is all your fault!" he accused, pouting his lips.

Tobio lifted his hand, intending to grab Shoyo's head, but the whistles and jeers from their teammates halted his movement.

"Oh? Is that the hot setter with his ideal son-in-law?" Suna teased, pointing his phone at them.

"Put your damn phone away before Kuroo kills you, Sunarin!" Komori retorted.

"Suna-saaaan!" Shoyo whined with a pleading look. "Don't record us!"

"Alright, that's enough," Their coach, Hibarida, interjected, cutting off their conversation, "Time for stretching!" He commanded.

"Yes, coach!" They all replied in unison.

Tobio let out a frustrated sigh, his eyes glancing over at Shoyo, who was now stretching between Suna and Komori. When their gazes met, Shoyo glared at him, which Tobio lazily responded by rolling his eyes. He knew he needed to deal with his sulking fiancé later. As for now, they had to concentrate on their practice because an important match was just around the corner.

Fortunately, their practice proceeded without a hitch. Although the teasing from the team had been relentless earlier, it all disappeared as soon as they started training. The atmosphere shifted, filled with focus and determination as everyone immersed themselves in drills and strategies. Each player was dedicated to honing their skills, driven by the upcoming match and the desire to perform at their best. For Tobio and Shoyo, it was a welcome relief, allowing them to put aside their earlier distractions and concentrate on their shared goal: victory.

After several hours of practice, the coach's whistle blew, signaling the end of their session. Ushijima, their captain, motioned for the team to gather in front of the coach.

“Great job today, everyone,” Coach Hibarida began, a satisfied smile on his face. “I can see the progress you’ve all made. Your teamwork is improving, and I’m particularly impressed by how you’ve been communicating on the court. That’s crucial for our upcoming match.”

The players exchanged glances, pride swelling in their chests at the coach's praise.

“However,” he continued, his tone becoming more serious, “We still have areas to work on. Defense needs to be tighter, and we must be ready for any surprises the opposing team might throw at us. We can not repeat the same mistake like before. So, keep pushing yourselves during practice.”

With that, the team nodded, feeling a renewed sense of determination considering they had just lost their first match against Germany four days ago. They had to win their upcoming match if they wanted to advance to the quarterfinals.

Tobio glanced at Shoyo, who was nodding enthusiastically, ready to take on the challenges ahead. “Let’s keep this momentum going,” Coach Hibarida concluded. “Now, go eat your dinner and rest after that. You all have a big match tomorrow!”

"Yes, Coach!" They all said in unison.

Tobio wiped the sweat from his forehead with a towel as he tried to calm his racing heart after an intense training session that afternoon. All that until Bokuto appeared out of nowhere and stood right beside him.

"Kageyama, I heard they're serving pork cutlet at the Asian buffet today!" The owl-haired man exclaimed.

Hearing one of his favorite dishes being mentioned, Tobio's interest was clearly piqued. "Really?" he asked, and Bokuto eagerly nodded.

"Let's hurry to the cafeteria!" Bokuto urged.

Tobio nodded but his eyes were already scanning the room for a familiar redhead. Once he spotted him, Tobio quickly patted Bokuto's shoulder and said, "You go ahead, Bokuto-san!" Before making his way toward Shoyo.

"Shou!" he called out.

Shoyo turned around in an instant, his eyebrows raised in curiosity.

"Walk to the canteen with me?" Tobio asked. Shoyo, on the other hand, looked slightly confused, so before he could respond, Tobio added another plea with a soft, "Please?"

Shoyo blinked but he eventually nodded, bringing a small smile to Tobio's face.

"Aran-san, we'll head out first." Shoyo said to their senior, who acknowledged with a nod.

Tobio bowed his head to Aran, who returned the gesture with a smile. Then, he walked side by side with Shoyo toward the cafeteria on the first floor.

"Did Kuroo-san give you a hard time earlier?" Shoyo asked, breaking the silence.

Tobio glanced over and noticed the curiosity in Shoyo's eyes.

"No," Tobio replied shortly, unbothered to give any details about his conversation with Kuroo and Iwaizumi earlier. Instead, he changed the topic as he fully stare at the redhead, "And you, are you upset with me?"

Shoyo frowned slightly. "’m not upset," he said, "Just... sulking." The redhead admitted in a quiet voice.

Tobio couldn't help but laugh a little at Shoyo's confession. He gently placed a hand on Shoyo's head, ruffling his hair affectionately. "Because the team was picking on you?" He teased with a playful grin.

Shoyo pouted slightly but didn't pull away. "Use your brain, Bakageyama." He muttered, his cheeks tinged with a hint of pink.

A small smile spread across Tobio's face as he heard a huff from the smaller boy. His hand, which had been busy tousling Shoyo's hair, slowly trailed down to the redhead's ear. Feeling Shoyo's body tense slightly, Tobio's smile grew wider.

"Don't start, Tobio!" Shoyo snapped, swatting his hand away.

Tobio shrugged innocently. When Shoyo pouted even more, Tobio couldn't resist leaning in to plant a quick kiss on Shoyo's lips, causing the redhead to squeal in surprise.

Tobio could feel Shoyo lightly hitting his chest, a blush spreading across the redhead's tan skin. Just as Shoyo was about to speak, the elevator doors in front of them opened. The raven-head glanced over, and after making sure it was empty, Tobio pushed Shoyo inside, quickly pressing their destination floor and the close button

"Wha—" Shoyo's words were cut off again.

But this time, it was Tobio who silenced him, capturing Shoyo's lips with his own. Shielding Shoyo from the CCTV's view, Tobio started to kiss his fiancé passionately.

Tobio's hand crept to the back of Shoyo's neck while his other hand wrapped around the redhead's waist. Tobio could hear Shoyo moan as he deliberately deepened their kiss.

For Tobio, there are two things that could make him forget about everything. First, volleyball, an unquestionable constant in Tobio's life. Second, believe it or not, was Shoyo. The proof? Tobio was still savoring his fiancé's sweet lips even when the elevator bell chimed, as if he doesn't give a damn if someone caught them making out in an elevator.

Tobio clicked his tongue in clear annoyance as Shoyo pushed him away forcefully when the elevator door opened. He frowned deeply as he looked at Shoyo, who was now catching his own breath.

"Oh, Tobio!"

The raven-head automatically turned his head only to find his teammate from Ali Roma, who also played in the Olympics, entering the elevator while waving at him.

"Niccolò," Tobio greeted with a nod.

Niccolò laughed heartily and patted Tobio on the shoulder. His eyebrows then raised in interest when he noticed Shoyo still standing behind Tobio.

"Il tuo fidanzato?" he asked, glancing over at Shoyo, "Il genero ideale?" he added with a playful smirk.

Tobio smiled, reaching for Shoyo's hand and pulling the redhead to stand beside him before answering, "Sì, esatto."

Shoyo, who still not fluent in Italian, scratched his neck in confusion from Tobio's conversation with Niccolò. But he still managed to flash a smile on his face, "Uh, good evening?" he greeted awkwardly.

Both Niccolò and Tobio chuckled at Shoyo's words. "Good evening! I heard Tobio was making a scene, huh?"

Tobio felt Shoyo's body tense up and he knew exactly where his fiancé's thoughts were headed. So before Shoyo could start to complain, Tobio quickly clarified, "The articles," he explained. "He's talking about my interview."

Hearing that, Shoyo relaxed, then he pointing an accusatory finger at Tobio. "He loves being the center of attention," he grumbled, causing Niccolò to laugh heartily.

Shoyo and Niccolò then began chatting like old friends, and Tobio couldn’t help but admire his fiancé’s social skills. Shoyo had a knack for making everyone around him feel at ease and it was a fact that everyone would admit.

"Oh, this is my floor. I have to go!" Niccolò announced as the elevator bell chimed again.

"Huh? I thought you were heading to the cafeteria for dinner?" Shoyo asked, blinking in confusion.

Niccolò chuckled, "I have something to take care of first," he explained briefly. "Good luck in your match against Argentina, Tobio, Shoyo!" he added.

Shoyo beamed, murmuring a soft thank you, while Tobio gave a brief nod.

"And don’t forget to invite me to your wedding!" Niccolò joked as he stepped out of the elevator, his booming laughter lingering as the doors closed.

"A wedding, huh?" Shoyo mused once they were alone. "I sometimes forget that we’re even engaged," he continued, raising his hand to admire the ring on his finger that Tobio gave when he proposed the redhead one year ago.

"Hey!" Tobio growled, his lips automatically forming a pout.

"I’m just kidding, Sulkyama!" Shoyo laughed. "But we have been so caught up with the Olympics that we tend to forget, don’t we?"

Tobio glanced down at the necklace that was now fully exposed, no longer hidden beneath his shirt. He had placed the ring on a silver chain that now always rested around his neck, close to his heart.

"I don't, though," Tobio said quietly, catching Shoyo’s attention.

"You don't?" Shoyo asked, a hint of surprise in his voice.

Tobio nodded. "Every time I see our ring on this necklace, I'm always reminded of it," he said. "Of you and us, I mean."

Shoyo's smile widened at Tobio’s words. The next thing Tobio knew, Shoyo was hugging him tightly, nearly causing him to lose his balance if he hadn’t quickly steadied himself.

"Who knew you were such a romantic, Tobio!" Shoyo exclaimed dramatically.

"Oi, dumbass, let go!" Tobio yelped, gently tugging at Shoyo’s hair.

Shoyo laughed but released him. "We should seriously talk about it, though," he said, "However, given that you just made waves with your latest interview, I think we should keep things lowkey for now," Shoyo said.

Tobio's frown deepened, it was clear he didn't like the idea Shoyo had just proposed.

"You want to keep it a secret?" he asked, there was a hint of bitterness in his voice.

"No," Shoyo replied firmly.

When Tobio turned to him, he saw Shoyo's small, reassuring smile. "I don't want to keep us a secret either," Shoyo clarified. "But we can't keep burdening Kuroo-san, can we?" he added with a shrug.

The elevator bell chimed again, and Shoyo was ready to step out, but Tobio held his wrist to hold him back.

"So you're okay with the world knowing about us?" Tobio asked again, just wanting to be sure.

Shoyo turned to him, his smile widening as he said, "I would love for the world to know about us."

Today is a pivotal day for the Japanese National Team. They face a crucial match that demands their absolute best if they hope to advance to the next round.

Their formidable opponent is, none other than, Argentina, led by Tobio's senior and long-time rival, Oikawa Tooru.

At the last Olympics, Argentina defeated them. But Tobio had vowed that this time, they would emerge victorious.

"Stop daydreaming and stretch properly, Kageyama!" Iwaizumi's sharp voice jolted Tobio back to reality.

"Sorry!" Tobio quickly complied, following the stretching routine.

"Do you always have to be so strict with your athletes, Iwa-chan?" Oikawa's voice chimed in, his presence marked by that ever-annoying smile, at least in Tobio's opinion.

Iwaizumi rolled his eyes then he was glaring at Oikawa. "Shut up, Shittykawa. I know how to handle my athletes!"

Oikawa laughed heartily, nodding in mock agreement. "Of course," he said, "But we're still going to beat your team!" he proclaimed confidently.

Tobio was about to retort, but his captain, Ushijima, stepped up and responded to their rival's setter, "We're the ones who will win this time, Oikawa."

Both Tobio and Iwaizumi nodded firmly while Oikawa smiled slyly, "We'll see about that, Ushiwaka-chan!" he hummed in a taunting tone before bounding over to Shoyo with enthusiastic energy.

Tobio and Iwaizumi groaned in unison, while Ushijima's subtle smile left Tobio slightly puzzled. He frowned a little but then he was quick to shaking off his confusion since it wasn't his business, so Tobio refocused on his stretches, determined not to draw Iwaizumi's ire again.

The stretching and warm-up session concluded smoothly, and the team now stood at the center of the court, ready to kick off the match.

Tobio was laser-focused, he refused to let his senior get the better of him.

"We're up against The Great King again!" Shoyo whispered excitedly beside him. "We're going to win this time!" he said with determination.

It had been quite a while since Tobio had heard the nickname The Great King, especially since Oikawa and Shoyo had developed a closer friendship and now used their real names instead of their high school quirky nicknames. Yet, in Shoyo's eyes, Oikawa would always be The Great King. This thought brought a small smile to Tobio’s face, and he nodded in agreement with his fiancé.

Before long, the referee's whistle pierced the air, signaling everyone to take their positions.

Japan had the privilege of serving first, and their captain, Ushijima, stepped up to take the serve.

As the whistle blew, the atmosphere crackled with anticipation. Ushijima tossed the ball high into the air. With a powerful leap, he struck the ball, sending it soaring over the net with impressive speed.

The game was on.

Argentina’s defense was quick, but Ushijima’s serve was relentless, landing just inside the line. The crowd erupted in cheers, and Tobio felt a rush of adrenaline. This was the start they needed.

Shoyo bounced on his feet, eyes shining with excitement. "Nice serve, Ushijima-san!" He shouted, his enthusiasm infectious.

The first rally began, with Argentina returning the serve. Oikawa, ever the strategist, set up his team, orchestrating plays with deft precision. Tobio couldn’t help but admire Oikawa’s skill, but that only fueled his determination to outperform him.

Tobio positioned himself near the net, glancing over at Shoyo who was ready to spring into action. He smiled as the ball came his way, he leaped, executing a perfect quick set to the redhead. The ball shot past the defenders, hitting the floor with a satisfying thud. The crowd roared in approval.

"And that was the infamous quick set from the magnificent duo of Japan, Kageyama Tobio and Hinata Shoyo!" The commentator's words echoed through the hall.

"Nice kill, Kageyama, Hinata!" Bokuto cheered from the bench, clapping his hands.

They continued to exchange points, each team showcasing their strengths. Yaku played a critical role in the back row, digging out hard hits, while Suna led the charge of their block. Tobio could feel the synergy building among his teammates, a rhythm that pushed them all to perform their best.

As the match progressed, the score remained neck-and-neck. With each rally, tension mounted. Tobio’s heart raced as it was his turn to serve, he knew they had to secure a lead no matter what. So he close his eyes and stay focus on the ball on his hand.

"Let's go, killer serve!" Shoyo's voice roared, Tobio glanced over to see Shoyo's wide grin over him.

Tobio chuckled lightly, and when the whistle blew, he tossed the ball up into the air before serving it with all his might. And it went exactly as he thought it would be, a service ace.

He successfully sending the ball cleanly past their libero and the crowd erupted in cheers. His teammates rallied around him, high-fiving and shouting encouragement, their excitement was contagious.

Encouraged by the roaring support, Tobio readied himself for another serve. As the whistle blew, he tossed the ball into the air, his focus sharpened. He launched the ball with precision, executing another killer serve that skimmed just over the net and landed perfectly in the back corner

"Another ace that brought Japan to win the first set! As expected from the number one setter in Japan, Kageyama Tobio!"

After a brief break, the second set began.

In this set, Argentina came back fiercely, tightening their blocks and putting Ushijima, Shoyo, and Sakusa in difficult positions due to their formidable defenses.

However, Yaku, their impressive libero, managed to save many balls that Argentina blocked. Despite his efforts, they still trailed by seven points, largely because Oikawa unleashed many deadly serves.

But Tobio refused to give up, he wouldn’t let his team be cornered. As a setter, it was his responsibility to make a way for his spikers.

Gradually, they closed the seven-point gap, and Japan regained the lead.

“Tobio!” Shoyo shouted, calling for the ball.

Shoyo leaped at his highest point, while the blockers from Argentina tried to catch up to him. Tobio grinned widely.

"Watch for the ball, he's a decoy!" Tobio heard Oikawa screamed at the other side of the net.

But it was already too late, he already set the ball to their middle blocker, Suna, who successfully landed the ball in the opponent's court. Once again, Japan claimed victory in the second set.

As the third set began, Argentina shifted into high gear, determined to fight back. They executed powerful serves and displayed impressive teamwork, catching Japan off guard. Despite their best efforts, Japan struggled to find their rhythm, and the score quickly tilted in favor of Argentina.

“Stay focused!” Coach Hibarida called out, trying to rally his team, but Argentina’s relentless pressure was overwhelming. Oikawa’s sharp sets and the monster spikes from his team propelled them to a decisive victory in the third set.

As the teams regrouped, Tobio knew they couldn’t let this setback shake their confidence. “We need to play our game,” he urged his teammates during the brief break. “We’ve come too far to let this slip away.”

The fourth set commenced with renewed determination from Japan. They began to rediscover their synergy, with Tobio orchestrating plays that exploited Argentina’s weaknesses. Sakusa and Ushijima were relentless on the offense, meanwhile Suna, Shoyo and Tobio himself were trying to set a wall at the net, making crucial blocks.

The score remained tight as both teams exchanged points, but Japan’s momentum continued to build. Tobio executed perfect sets, setting up Ushijima and Sakusa for impressive spikes that sent the ball soaring past Argentina’s defense.

With the score tied late in the set, the atmosphere became electric. Each point was fiercely contested, and the crowd could feel the tension. Yaku dove to save a ball that seemed lost, keeping the rally alive and igniting the team's spirit.

They rallied together, defending their court with fierce determination. Oikawa fought hard to keep Argentina in the game, but Japan's cohesive play was too strong.

Finally, with the score at match point, Tobio set the ball for Shoyo. He launched into the air, executing a powerful spike that left no room for error. The ball flew past the blockers and slammed onto the court.

"This is it, folks, we have the winner for today's match! Give a big applause for Japan!"

The crowd erupted in cheers as the final whistle blew, signaling Japan’s triumph in the fourth set and overall victory in the match.

The entire Japanese National Team rushed onto the court to celebrate their first victory at the 2024 Olympics.

Tobio, who was catching his breath, quickly turned towards Shoyo. The redhead flashed a wide smile that was contagious, causing Tobio to grin in return. Suddenly, Shoyo ran towards him, tackling him into a tight embrace.

"We did it!" Shoyo yelled, his excitement overflowing.

Tobio, on the other hand, buried his face in the crook of Shoyo’s neck. His smile widened as he closed his eyes, letting the thrill of the victory wash over him as he hugged the love of his life.

They were stretching and chatting with each other after the match. Shoyo was engrossed in a conversation with Yaku, while Tobio stretched silently beside him.

That is until Oikawa approached them.

"Tobio-chan, Shoyo-chan!" Oikawa greeted in his usual teasing tone. "Oh, Yakkun’s here too. Sorry, you’re so small I didn’t see you sitting next to Shoyo." His taunt successfully ignited Yaku’s temper.

"Say that again!" Yaku challenged with his eyes blazing with fire.

Oikawa smirked while Tobio scowled. "Stop picking fights, or I’ll get Iwaizumi-san," Tobio threatened, causing Oikawa to pout dramatically.

"I actually came with some exciting news," Oikawa said, while sighing theatrically after that.

"What news could be more exciting than us finally beating you?" Yaku was quick to snapped.

"Rude, Yakkun!" Oikawa retorted, glaring at the shorter man. "This is about Tobio and Shoyo."

Shoyo blinked in confusion before pointing at himself. "Me?" he asked, tilting his head. "What about Tobio and me?" he continued, curiosity piqued.

Tobio, also intrigued by Oikawa’s news, turned to look at his senior, who was now grinning widely.

I don't know why but I clearly have a bad feeling about this. Tobio thought.

The Argentina setter pointed to Shoyo’s finger. "Your ring, Shoyo," Oikawa said.

Both Shoyo and Tobio frowned in confusion. Ever since Tobio had proposed to Shoyo a year ago, Shoyo had indeed never taken off the ring. It had never been an issue before. People simply assumed it was just a regular ring. So why was it become a problem now?

"What about his ring?" Tobio voiced his question.

"Don’t you remember you recently caused a stir with your interview?" Oikawa raised his eyebrows. "There’s a lot of speculation about who your ideal son-in-law is," he continued. "If you think you two are being slick, think again." He pointed at Tobio, who deep frowned in confusion.

"Oh crap," Shoyo muttered as realization dawning on him.

Seeing the confusion in Tobio’s eyes, Yaku sighed. "Your necklace, Kageyama," Yaku explained. "During the match, your necklace was exposed. I didn’t think it would be a problem, but I forgot that Shoyo also wears a matching ring with you."

"Smart as always, Yakkun!" Oikawa clapped his hands theatrically. "I heard from my teammates that you two are trending on Twitter as we speak right now!" He smiled broadly, without any guilt.

"He’s right, Kageyama," Suna, who had been sitting nearby, chimed in. He held up his phone, displaying Twitter’s trending topics, which included Olympics, Japan, Kageyama Tobio, Hinata Shoyo, ideal son-in-law, and rings.

Shoyo chuckled nervously as he scratching the back of his head. "Haha.. I guess we weren’t as subtle as we thought."

Oikawa's grin widened. "Everyone’s been trying to figure out who the ideal son-in-law is ever since Tobio-chan's interview released, and then boom, both of you wear a matching ring!"

Tobio sighed, running a hand through his hair. He clearly didn't think about that.

Shortly after, Ushijima walked over to them. "Kageyama," he called out, cutting their conversation off, "A few reporters are specifically requesting an interview with you. However, if you’re uncomfortable and don’t want to be interviewed, Iwaizumi said Kuroo will handle it."

"I’ve caused another stir," Tobio sighed desperately. "Will Kuroo-san still take care of everything?" he asked, feeling a bit hesitant.

Yaku clicked his tongue. "Of course," the libero answered firmly. "After using you and Atsumu for the sake of his content, he, too, has to clean up the mess you leave behind."

"Exactly! What was up with that gym vlog a few months ago?" Oikawa added, fanning the flames.

A blush spread across Tobio's face as he recalled Kuroo's request to make a vlog where he had to exercise shirtless at a gym.

"..bio?" Shoyo's voice pulled him back to reality.

Tobio turned over to see him with his flushed face, "Sorry, what?"

"You don't have to do it if you don't want to." Shoyo repeated softly.

Taking a deep breath, Tobio let his embarrassment fade. "No, it’s fine. I’ll do it," he decided, earning nods of approval from Yaku and Oikawa, who seemed to be more invested than Tobio himself.

Before he stood up, he could feel Yaku scoot closer to pat his back, "Good luck, Kageyama."

Tobio nodded and stood up, but before heading to the reporters, he reached out and ruffled Shoyo's hair gently.

Shoyo stood there, stunned by Tobio's unexpected display of affection. Typically, it was him who initiated any such moments, especially around their friends. Tobio preferred to keep things private.

But this time was different. They were still on the court, surrounded by cheering supporters. Tobio, too, could heard gasps from the crowd as he ruffled Shoyo's hair, but he ignored them as he making his way to the reporters waiting for him instead.

It was now, or never.

"Kageyama-senshu!" the reporters called out as Tobio approached.

Before they could bombard him with questions, Tobio raised his hand to stop them. "Do any of you have a coin?" he asked calmly.

The reporters fell silent, puzzled by his question. Until one reporter finally spoke up, "I have one," He said, pulling a coin from his pocket.

"Would you mind flipping it?" Tobio requested.

The reporter, who was still confused, nodded and flipped the coin, catching it in his hand.

"Could you please try to remember the result of the flip?" Tobio asked.

The reporter, even more baffled, nodded again.

"Thank you," Tobio said. "You may proceed with your questions now."

And then, the interview began. It was all starting with a congratulations on Japan's victory over Argentina, followed by questions about the match, his thoughts on the Argentina team, and various other topics related to the game.

Tobio answered each question calmly, providing detailed responses to satisfy the reporters' curiosity.

After all the match-related questions were answered, the conversation finally shifted to the topic that seemed to be the highlight of the interview.

"Are you aware that you and Hinata-senshu are currently trending on social media?" One reporter asked.

Tobio took a deep breath, having anticipated this question. "Yes, I'm aware. My teammates told me," He replied briefly.

"Is it true that the ring you're wearing as a necklace is the same as the one on Hinata-senshu's finger?"

"Is Hinata-senshu the partner you described as the ideal son-in-law?"

Questions were hurled at Tobio rapidly, and he sighed deeply. Instead of answering directly, he turned his attention to the reporter who had flipped the coin earlier.

"Excuse me, but what was the result of the coin flip?" Tobio asked, effectively silencing the other reporters.

"It was heads, Kageyama-senshu," the reporter answered clearly.

Heads, huh? Tobio thought to himself.

He then looked over at Shoyo, who was sitting with the rest of the Japanese National Team, all of them grinning mischievously at Tobio. Ignoring their banter, he focused on Shoyo and smiled instead.

"Yes," He began, still looking at Shoyo, "You are all correct," He continued, turning back to the reporters.

Tobio pulled out the necklace hidden beneath his jersey, deliberately revealing the ring hanging from it. "This is my engagement ring with Hinata," He stated clearly, causing a stir among the reporters and fans nearby. "And according to my mom, Hinata is indeed her ideal son-in-law," he added with a light laugh. "Does that answer your questions?"

“Kageyama Tobio: a Setter for All and a Lover for One.

In a thrilling start to the 2024 Olympics, the Japanese National Team clinched their first victory, setting a high bar for the tournament. Central to this success was Kageyama Tobio, whose outstanding performance on the court not only demonstrated his exceptional skills but also set the stage for a surprising personal revelation.

The tension was palpable as Japan faced off against Argentina, a formidable opponent led by Kageyama’s former senior and rival, Oikawa Tooru. Memories of their defeat at the previous Olympics fueled Japan’s determination. The match was fiercely contested, with Kageyama securing crucial points through his killer serves, ultimately helping Japan win the first set. Despite Argentina’s aggressive comeback in the second set, Japan's resilience saw them win the third set and clinch the fourth, securing a decisive victory.

Reflecting on the match, Kageyama said, "We prepared extensively for this game, knowing that Argentina is a formidable opponent not to be underestimated. They are strong in both attack and defense. Our team even struggled against the high walls they set up throughout the match," Kageyama admitted. "But my teammates had complete faith in me to find a way for them to break through those walls. And I, too, had full faith in them to overcome the towering blocks before us."

Kageyama's statement highlights the strong bond and mutual trust within the Japanese team.

The synergy among the players was evident, as each member understood their role and trusted one another to execute their game plan. Kageyama as a setter played a pivotal role in facilitating this teamwork, enabling seamless communication and coordination on the court.

However, during the match, fans noticed that the ring hanging from Kageyama's necklace bore a striking resemblance to the one worn by his teammate, Hinata Shoyo. Just days earlier, Kageyama had publicly mentioned that he has a partner but had not revealed their identity. This admission sparked curiosity and speculation among fans and media alike, especially after he, himself, coming out as gay when he described his ideal partner as an ideal son-in-law. This revelation not only surprised fans but also endeared him to many, as it showcased his authenticity and willingness to embrace his true self.

When asked about the matching rings, Kageyama remained coy yet confident. "Yes, this is my engagement ring with Hinata," he stated, holding up the ring for the cameras. "And according to my mom, Hinata is indeed her ideal son-in-law." Kageyama responded with a light laugh, addressing all the questions that likely lingered in people's minds.

Kageyama's ability to balance his role as a dedicated athlete with his personal life reflects his maturity and commitment. The intersection of his professional triumphs and personal happiness paints a picture of a man who excels not just in volleyball but also in love. He has managed to carve out a niche for himself as both a fierce competitor on the court and a devoted partner off it.

Not only that, after the interview wrapped up, Kageyama strode over to Hinata Shoyo, who was sitting with the rest of the Japanese National Team. In a bold move, Kageyama leaned in and shared a heartfelt kiss with his, now known as, fiancé, Hinata, reinforcing the bond between them for everyone to see.”

Tobio groaned after reading the article Suna had sent him that morning. "Fuck, I think Kuroo-san might kill me after this," he muttered.

His grumbling seemed to disturb Shoyo, who was sleeping on his chest. The redhead groaned softly before finally opening his eyes.

"Morning," Shoyo said as he yawning widely.

Seeing such an adorable sight early in the morning, Tobio couldn't help but to forget about everything and tighten his embrace around his fiancé. "Morning, Shou," He greeted, planting a brief kiss on Shoyo's forehead.

Shoyo giggled, snuggling closer for warmth. "What are you grumbling about so early in the morning?"

Tobio groaned again, recalling the chaos he had stirred up.

"The article from yesterday's interview just dropped," Tobio explained briefly. "Do you think Kuroo-san might kill me?"

Shoyo, who was still half-asleep at that moment, couldn't help but laugh. "You're overreacting," Shoyo replied once his laughter subsided. "I'll report him to Kenma if he tries to kill you," the redhead added reassuringly.

Tobio smiled at Shoyo's words and planted another brief kiss on his head. Shoyo closed his eyes again and tightened his embrace while Tobio buried his face in Shoyo's hair, inhaling the sweet scent of the shampoo his fiancé had used yesterday.

Unfortunately, their cozy moment was interrupted by a loud bang on their bedroom door.

"Kageyama Tobio!" A booming voice yelled from behind the door. "Open the damn door!"

Both Tobio and Shoyo jumped at the loud voice, which could only belong to their PR team member, Kuroo.

"Shit," Tobio cursed.

"I'll go call Kenma."

Notes:

I really can't help myself from writing this after RJN's win against Argentina yesterday. The match was so thrilling that I had to hold my breath (dramatically). I'm happy they won, though. Let's hope for another win on Saturday so they can advance to the quarterfinals. 😆

Oh anyway, the interview that I made as a summary was actually based on a real interview from Vivianne Miedema, she's a very VERY impressive Dutch Footballer. I love her sm
