Summary:

Princess Laenyra was the only daughter of Princess Rhaenyra. It came to no surprise that the girl was immensely popular.
Lords offered the hands of their sons- more times than Rhaenyra could count. It didn't seem to matter when the court speculated about her parentage.
She was the only daughter of the heir to the iron throne. A dragon rider. Twin to the future Lord of Driftmark. And the younger sister to the future King of The Seven Kingdoms.

Chapter 1: An Equal Exchange

Chapter Text

“And he sees a big, scary dragon!” a young male voice reached Princess Rhaenyras's ears as she entered her chambers. Harwin stood to the left of the heavy oak door, his eyes landing on the swaddled newborn in Laenor’s arms. One of the young boys stood upon her entrance, “Mother… look.”

Her eyes followed her youngest children as they moved about the room, carefully lifting the lid from the brazier to reveal a dragon egg. “We chose an egg for the baby,” Lucerys spoke, looking up at her.

She laughed dryly, slowly making her way around the couch. “That looks like the perfect one,” she said, holding Harwin’s arm for support as she sat down.

“I let Luke and Lane choose.” Young Jacaerys admitted.

“Thank you, Jace.”

“Not every day an egg leaves the dragon pit, Princess.” Harwin spoke, “I thought it best to escort the lads… and lady.” His eyes flickered between the boys, the baby in Laenor's arms, and the girl sitting beside her mother.

Rhaenyra sighed, “Laenor and I thank you, Commander,” she said, watching closely over her two sons who stared at the dragon egg.

He nodded. “Another boy, I heard.”

She looked at him shortly, a small smile gracing her expression as she nodded. His eyes returned to the baby, “What a fine knight you are going to make, eh?” Laenor spoke quietly.

“Might I?” He asked briefly, looking at the young boys for a moment.

Rhaenyra smiled more honestly, “Ser Harwin wishes to be introduced to Joffrey.” She looked to Laenor, who nodded.

“Of course.” Slowly and carefully, he moved to hand the child over.

“Joffrey, is it?” Harwin asked, holding him as if he were made of glass. Laenor and Rhaenyra shared a glance, an understanding one.

“Father, please may I hold Joffry?” Luke spoke up, small arms already reaching for the newborn Joffrey. Jacaerys already had a hand on his small brother's shoulder when Laenor answered, “No, no, no,” he said firmly, moving his second youngest son away from the baby.

“Back to the dragon pit for you two.”

“Come on!”

“Before they send out a search party,” Laenor spoke, gently pushing the boys out the door. He paused, giving Harwin and Rhaenyra a slight nod before closing the door. A moment of silence.

“You're asleep in front of the commander of the city watch.” Harwin scolded the baby, slowly walking back and forth. He looked back up at the princess. “Terrible lack of respect.”

“A certain insolence runs in my family, I'm afraid.” She nods down at the small girl tucked into her side, seemingly fast asleep. He smiled, eyes lingering on the two before returning to the baby in his arms.
